Visual Studio :: Smart Tag Does Not Show For New Controls But Does For Old Controls With Extenders

I have quite a few web applications using Ajax that have been working for a while. I migrated from a machine running Vista to a new machine running Windows 7 64 bit. I reinstalled VS2008 and also installed
ASP.NET Ajax Library 0911 Beta. The old controls using Ajax extenders are still working fine and their smart tags show up with the option of "Remove Extender..." . However, when I add new controls, their smart tags are disabled (grayed). If I remove the extender from an old control, its smart tag will disappear.
I am using VS2008. When I tried to implement AJAX to my application, I couldn't get the smart tag for the Required Field Validator in the webform. I need it to implement 'ValidatorCalloutExtender' (AJAX) control in my application.
I mainly do C# ASP.NET projects in VS2010. Once you've put masterpages and other things in place, I find the design view pretty much goes grey and elements can't be selected. This isn't so bad except that sometimes you need to access the little 'smart tags' at the top right of controls to do things.
In particular I'm trying to do this with some telerik controls, though the issue isn't confined to them.
Anyone have a handy tip to access this functionality (or miraculously make design view work!) ?
PS. I read in a few places that Shift-Alt-F10 may help. I tried putting my cursor in the control's tag and using it, no luck. Also I clicked the little rectangle below design view to select the control and tried it again- no luck.
I need a develop a smart dropdown list for an inhouse application
Let assume, i have a dropdownlist with the following values:
ABC EDF XYZ A123 B456
Now when the user types A in the drpdownlist (we can type anything onthe dropdownlist, but we can superimpose a textbox on it), the dropdwn list should sort itself and show only ABC and A123.
Recently i am working in VS2008 installed in windows xp SP2. In the toolbox i added a new tab and added some third party controls in the toolbox, by using "Choose Item" dialog.. I also added Ajax ToolKit to the tool box. It worked fine and i could drag n drop controls.
But then if i restart VS2008, all the tabs i created and controls in it goes off and disappears ncluding Ajax Toolkit. Each time i restart it, I have to have add those controls newly?
Is this a Bug?? or Is there any solution for this?
When I make a simple change to a style property in a CSS class the change only effects the webform in design mode. It has no effect on the web form when viewed in a browser. Why?
I tried the Hotfix above "Design view does not update HTML" to no avail. Is there a 64 bit version of this hotfix?
I installed VS 08. and then installed Ajax extensions 1.0. I also downloaded ajax control toolkit and added to my toolbox. And I placed scriptmanager on the designer. Now when I am trying to add functionality to standard button via smart tag option. I see this option disabled. how can I enable it and have extenders in play.
I am running vs2010, added the ajax toolkit. I can get form control to drag onto forms and run (ie the editor) but cannot get calender extender to work. I manually added it to the code. set the target id. No calender when ran. But the smarttag will appear on the textbox with the only option of remove extender. Why are the smart tags not working. The show smart tag option is disabled on the right click context menu of the textbox.
In the picture below, can anyone tell me what the 2 colored bar is between my header and my navigation menu? I'm trying to create an ASP.NET Web Application, but this is all I see: I have confirmed that I have the full Visual Studio installed, not just Visual C#.Why can't I see ASP.NET Web Application in the "new project" list?
i havent uninstalled Visual studio 2010 .... for some requirements i had to repair my visual studio 2010 installation... now after repairing or reinstalling (not uninstalling and then installing, i reinstalled from the visual studio installation options) the visual studio 2010 i noticed that the asp.net Mvc template has vanished ... i tried to repair/ reinstall again but somehow it doesnt come up ... the template is not reflected into the visual studio new projects menu... as a result i am not able to load any of the mvc projects either ....
is there any possible way apart from uninstalling /repairing or reinstalling the visual studio i can get back my template again ? into my visual studio.... like wise somewhat kinda manual customization or like that ?

I just installed Visual studio 2010 ultimate RC on my windows 7 server. It doe snot show line number. So I went to Tool->Option->Editor, however, there is no where I cna find line number choice.
I used to have Visual Studio 2010 professional beta, it has the same problem, no line number to show up. However, it has a check box: line number. Even if I check the box, still no line number to show up.
I have VS.NET 2003, 2005 and 2008, when I use VS.NET 2005 and clic on new project, this doesn't show me the business intelligence option, this only work with .NET 2008, what sould i do?
I am trying to create a smart search for a specific column in a database. the column is a short text (title of an article), so I am looking for a search that will ignores the order of the words, and mispelling mistakes. the search must returns the search results order by rellevance, and the seach is not in english, so the FREETEXT that search by meanning won't work here.
I created already a search SQL, but it is not wide range enough and won't except mispelling.

Even if there is a ready to use tool that doing so, it can be helpfull, although I am not sure that for such a simple text a tool is requiered.
I have an application where I make advanced engineering/science calculations.
The application consists of 25 equal calculation "lines" which I have made as user controls:

However the performance is quite bad because each line load from a database. Each line becomes visible when the last line has been clicked so I only need in fact 2 lines to be loaded at the beginning.
Can I make a smart code where the next user controls loads instead of the HTML that I have made, where all 25 lines appears and loads but are not visible until the line before has been used?
I want to use a source control in VS2010, I know my best bet is TFS, but at the moment TFS(can't afford ). As i understand TFS is the new VSS_2005(can afford)Can VSS 2005 be use as a source control for VS 2010 solutions/projects?
I have developed an asp.net application using VS 2010 RC. after that i installed VS 2010 trial pack. now its showing some error when i view the forms in design mode. i can not view the control which i used in form.error is :"Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM"
but if i execute the application its working. the problem is in design mode.
I just installed the release version of Visual Studio 2010, and it looks like there's something wrong with the standard ASP.NET server controls. When I create a basic server control, such as a TextBox, the editor underlines it in green and says (I also get no intellisense for ASP.NET controls): Element 'TextBox' is not a known element.
