if you know anyother suggestions for converting vs2003 to vs2008 project
is it possible to convert whole visual studio 2008 web site project to visual studio 2010 web site project

I am trying to install vs 2008 on a 64 bit windows 7.
when it completes about 10% of the installation it gives me a list of error messages telling that setup has failed.I searched in microsoft communities and on the net,
F5 builds the web project and the opens the web site but the project is not in debug.
This has happened over the last week but I was not aware of making any relavent configuration changes or updates.
I'm using Visual Studio 2008, and my database is SQL Server 2000.
I want to add a connection to the Server Explorer in VS. The Data source is Microsoft SQL Server (SqlClient). After entering in all my information and I click Test Connection, it is successful.
But when I click OK, I get the error:
Unable to add data connection. ExecuteScalar requires an open and available connection. The connection's current state is closed.
I have an existing dataset in VS2008 and app works fine untill I tried to add new datatable.It gave me the following error -
Custom tool error: Failed to generate code. Unable to convert input xml file content to a DataSet. Invalid XPath selection inside field node.
And designer.cs got deleted.If I mannually add datatable in .xsd then it is good.But that option is not acceptable.
When I edit .aspx or .cshtml file in the Visual Studio and press Ctrl-F5 (run), it runs the current file in the browser. How do I make it to avoid this and always open the app's site URL instead?
View 1 RepliesI'm having an issue that has made me loose too many hours already. My site works fine in VS2008 with SQL Express 2008. However, when I try to deploy the site following these steps:
1. Create a new site IIS 7.0
2. Copy all the files from my code folder to IIS 7.0, (I was planning to delete the code latter)
3. Browse to my Index.aspx
The error message I receive is Cannot open database "AnimalSafe" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYNetwork Service'. I've already changed the application pool to use Network Service to authenticate and have made sure that SQL is running under this account.
I have not been able to open css files in VWD, I must have sone something I don't know. I can open them in wordpad, and WebDevelopment Server still displays properly so the file is not currupt. Is there a setting I messed up in web.config or somewhere else?

View 1 RepliesI started working on an Asp.net MVC website using Visual Web Developer Express 2008 a while ago. Just recently, I managed to get my hands on a copy of Visual Studio 2008 Professional (through DreamSpark ). I installed the Service Pack, and also the MVC2 files for Visual Studio.
However, now I can't open my project anymore. When I try to open the solution in Visual Studio, it tells me that the project type is not supported. Does this mean that I have to resort to using VWD Express again? Is there perhaps some way that I can edit the project file so that it will load and compile correctly?
Note: I installed MVC2 through the Web Platform Installer, and it says that it installed successfully. However, I notice that MVC references in my unit-test project don't seem to be resolved either - is this perhaps because MVC2 isn't actually installed properly?

unable to open the web 'ftp://209.*.*.*/httpdocs'. The computer is disconnected from the network.
Why can't I connect to the remote site on visual studio 2005? I can do the same thing on Dreamweaver with no problem. I can ping the IP successfully. I can open the ftp URL on a web browser with no problem.

When I hit F5 (to debug) it displays "Error while trying to run project" message. I am able to debug console and windows service applications. Recently I installed VS.NET 2010 (.NET Framework 4.0). I developed a website project using visual studio 2008 and language used is c#. It was working fine till yesterday[i.e., It compiled and also i could run it using the asp.net development server by pressing ctrl+f5] and today when i tried to run it says "unable to connect to asp.net development server". I tried to reinstall visual studion 2008 and even now its not working. Also when i go to websites n asp.net configuration option it say the same error "unable to connect to asp.net development server". I absolutely no idea about why this error popped up. I got my project demo. day after n how can this be set right.

View 1 RepliesI just started getting the error message "Unable to Connect to the ASP.net Development Server" when debugging a website with VWD 2008 (everything was fine in the past). My system is Windows Vista with Windows Live OneCare firewall. I have reviewed other postings related to this problem, and they indicate firewall setting problems - settings not allowing VWD internet access. However, my settings on the "Windows Live OneCare Firewall Advanced Settings" tab specifically allow VWD.
