I am trying to create MVC Web application in Visual studio 2008 but cannot find the template in the "New Website/Project" Dialog box. Same in Visual Web Developer Express.
I also tried searching in google for downloading the template but found nothing.
I want to convert my website project to web application project. First things I need to add references to new web application project. When I click "Show All Files" from Solution Explore, web application shows References Node. However, Web site project does not show References node. How can I find what references in my web site project?
View 3 RepliesToday in one of the computer i installed visual studio 2010 professional edition, and successfully installed. But in my new project template "Asp.net MVC 2 website" is missing. Also I'm not able to open an already created MVC 2 project also. I'm also having MVC 2 installed with VS 2008 Sp1 in the same machine and is working fine. I uninstalled and installed again, the same is happening.

View 1 RepliesI recently updated my VS2010 website project from .NET 3.5 to 4.0. Everything was working fine in the website project. Today I decided to migrate the website to a web application project as I have learned this is the best way to work in .NET. I split out all my class files into a separate class library and copied all my other content into my new project. Then I updated all the references and web.config.
When I build the class library, everything works great. The problem is happening when I try to build/debug the web application project. It is acting like all the controls are missing and it is also throwing a bunch of compile errors about the public properties I have in my master pages.
Control errors: "The name 'INSERT CONTROL NAME HERE' does not exist in the current context"
Master page errors:'System.Web.UI.MasterPage' does not contain a definition....
It is giving these errors for every single control and master page property in my entire solution.I notice when I add a new web.form to this project, it also adds a filename.aspx.designer.cs file in addition to the .aspx and .aspx.cs file. My existing files do not have these extra files since they were created in a different .NET version.
UPDATE: It seems I was missing the step where I need to right click on the new application folder and select "Convert to web application". I just did that and it seems to be a little bit better...
Now it is choking on Literals that are inside single quotes:
<div class='<asp:Literal ID="CssClassLiteral" runat="server"></asp:Literal>'>
It doesn't see this literal when it does the conversion... Is the above valid code or should I implement that functionality another way?
I installed visual studio team eddtion and i can't find web application projects in it . Is it the wrong version for having web application projects or .. ? I installed it full features and i don't know what could be wrong..
View 3 Replies i havent uninstalled Visual studio 2010 .... for some requirements i had to repair my visual studio 2010 installation... now after repairing or reinstalling (not uninstalling and then installing, i reinstalled from the visual studio installation options) the visual studio 2010 i noticed that the asp.net Mvc template has vanished ... i tried to repair/ reinstall again but somehow it doesnt come up ... the template is not reflected into the visual studio new projects menu... as a result i am not able to load any of the mvc projects either ....
is there any possible way apart from uninstalling /repairing or reinstalling the visual studio i can get back my template again ? into my visual studio.... like wise somewhat kinda manual customization or like that ?
My VWD 2010 Express Edition appears to be missing the console application template. I have searched all the options under new project in VB and C# but it just is not there. I would like to add the console application template option .

The resut is always some "Chinese character garbage", and the generated extension is always .cs (whatever the given outputextension may be)Generating text files works fine in class libraries, MVC websites and other "projects".Just not in plain websites. Is this a known issue, am I forgetting some swith or doing something wrong, can or can I not fix this?UPDATE: It seems to be a problem with the Tangible T4 Editor, after uninstalling this tool, it seems to work fine. However, I've lost syntax highlighting and intellisense then.Since this is an external tool, I don't think this forum covers that scope.

i'm trying to install MVC on my vwd 2008.i download the tool then install it succesfully i guess.but when i open my vwd2008 and go to create a new website i dont see the mvc template.am i doing something wrong? do i need to install any thing else?

this seems to be a problem only on my new PC, not my prior PC or my coworkers PCs. But, as far as I know, I have installed VS2005 the same way, including the VS80-KB915364-X86-ENU.exe and WebApplicationProjectSetup.msi additions.
I have a VS2005 Solution called 'Intranet' made up of several web projects. One of those web projects is also called 'Intranet'. All of the projects should load as Web Application Projects, which they did on my prior PC.
Now, the 'Intranet' project seems to be opening as a Web Site project. The name of the project in the solution now shows as "C:...Intranet" instead of just "Intranet" and is not recognized as being part of the SourceSafe project(no lock icon shows). If I right-click this project, "Build Web Site" is one option.
i have a project which runs fine when I build it and run it. But when I add an web deployment project to the same, it throws out a "server block is not well formed" error in Default.aspx page
through googling i found out that it may have something to do with page/server directives. but i cant figue out what is wrong with this code.

I have been asked to do some work on a website. I downloaded all of the files and chose "open website" in Visual Studio. In the picture below you can see the file structure. When I run the project I get some errors such as "could not load type 'AdminSite.Partner.Listing" or "file project/adminmaster.master does not exist'. Now, those files are indeed there. I have noticed that within the Admin folder and the Home folder there are compiled DLLs in the bin folders. Also, there are project files within each of those folders. I've tried opening the project files and the projects only encompass the files within each of the Admin and Home directories respectively. I'm just wondering what the best way is to set up this solution. As I've done so far, by opening it as a web site, why is it not seeing the DLLs in the bin folders when I run it? Do I need to reference them somehow?

I now have to separate the code from each page into code-behind files that must be combined with many different versions of the markup. I assume this means that I will need a solution with a common project of code-behind files that is merged with a project of each version of the markup files in order to create different websites. I need to know how to organize the solution for debugging and building each website and where to place each file.
