View 1 RepliesDebugging running remote web application
View 1 RepliesFirst time i am going to work on (maintenance project) application that is already in production. The application was developed in ASP.net 3.5/C# 3.0(web forms) with jQuery,Ajax,Sql server 2005 and microsoft enterprise library 4.0.,WCF services. Questions (bear with me if my question is wrong)
1) Is it possible to use Visual Studio (2008 with SP1) to debug the remote application (i.e already in production)?.What are the tools do i need to use in order to keep track the things in case something went wrong?
2) Simply looking into Log file ,will solve the issues?
3) After having done with enhancements,is it possible to directly deploy the DLLs into production server.Won't it affect the running application?
what are the procedures i need to follow.Client is ready to provide any tools for my support.(What are the area do i need to aware to handle production system
I am attemting to remote debug my application in a outside server I have the IP and the the user. I am using in my server msvsmom.exe 64bit version 10.3.30319.1. In my computer I have visual studio 2010. I had opened all the port required in the MSDN docimentation in the server and host. I copied my web application in the server.
When I am trying to connect from my VS2010 in "Attach to Process" using in qualifiers this format with the real information : Administrator@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
I have this error: "Unable to connect to the Microsoft Visual Studio Remote Debugging Monitor named Administrator@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" The visual Studio Remote Debugger does not support this edition of windows"
I am not able to debug a Remote web project (Where the project files are located in another server which is in the same network). I am getting the below error message:
Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.

It works fine when i try to access the website through IIS. Shud i do some setting changes on VS 2005?
I've tried with
<trust
level="Full"
originUrl="" />
There are a lot of new features in VS 2010 that I'm very much enjoying, but there are two things occurring that I'm wondering about. I often have several windows open like any developer will, and I arrange them in a particular order that makes sense to me, from left to right. As new windows are opened, tabs are created at the far left, and I move them to where I want them. Basically, I like to have the database diagram at the far left, then the repository class for whatever controller I'm working on, then the service class, then controller class and then various views. Not that my particular order is important to the question, but here it is.
I've noticed that, while working and switching between tabs (by clicking on the tab - not moving it or removing the current one), this order is getting changed. Some of the tabs that I've dragged over to the far right will suddenly be on the far left. The rearrangement always places windows on the far left. This happens regularly, and I've paid attention to my actions, so I know I'm not accidentally dragging them over myself, or closing/reopening them. This seems to occur with the tabs that I use the most, as if Visual Studio is trying to place my most-used tabs over to the far left. I'd rather this not happen and handle the order of the tabs myself.
The other thing is less important, but is a little odd. When I start my MVC 2 application in debug mode, my entire code window goes completely white until the application loads. This never happened in VS 2008, and I'm guessing it's some kind of side effect of having the interface written in WPF. It's not that bad, but is a little annoying.
I am developping an MVC3 RC2 application and just after hitting F5 on my asp web application, I am getting this error message program '[7780] w3wp.exe: Managed (v4.0.30319)' has exited with code -2 (0xfffffffe).So I am totally unable to debug my application
View 10 RepliesThe default ASP.NET web server that launches from within Visual Studio (Casini) is a little buggy on my development machine, so I like to publish to a local IIS instance on my dev machine and look at the web application there. However, I'm not automatically in "Debug Mode" when I launch the application this way.
I know that VS 2010 has an "Attach to Process" debug feature, but I'm not sure exactly how to use it. What do I need to do to be able to debug a local IIS ASP.NET web application from within Visual Studio? Specifically:
What settings do I need to change in the configuration of my web application?
What "Package/Publish Settings" do I need to change?
Is there anything I need to change in IIS?
Is there anything special I need to do in the "Attach to Process" screen?
Background Information: I'm running Visual Studio 2010 on Windows XP SP3 with IIS 5.1 and .NET 4.0.
Additional Information:
I should add that I've tried attaching to aspnet_wp.exe, but when I go to a page that I know has a breakpoint in it, I get the following message when I hover over the "open circle" breakpoint:
The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document.
my os : win XP service pack 2my website was developed in asp.net 2.0(visual studio 2005) and then i converted into asp.net 3.5(visual studio 2008). and i added one page. it was working.now, while i am running my website, output should be like this 'http://localhoast:8799/mypage.aspx'but at first it tries the above url and then it is automatically changes the url into like this 'http://www.localhost.com/mypage.aspx'.
i am facing this problem only in firefox as well as google chrome.but i am not facing this problem if the browser is internet explorer.is there any problem with my IIS? or in the browsers?
i built an web application that need to work with sql server 2005, i'm using
linq to sql for my queries, and i'm using the dataclasses.dbml object.
the problem is that i can't see the database in the server explorer, so, i can't drag and drop
the tables to the dataclasses.dbml object, i understand that the application need to be rgistered
in the sql server to be able to do so and to be able to read and write to it.
[code].....
There are plenty other similar static methods defined within the class.
When does it fail: ONLY when the solution is compiled in 'DEBUG' mode. Everything works fine in 'RELEASE' mode.
What have I already tried:
1. Including a static constructor inside 'Utility' class - FAILED
2. Marking 'Utility' class with 'static' keyword: FAILED
3. Changing platform target from 'Any CPU' to 'x64': FAILED
As highlighted above, the issue is really not with VerifyPassword() method per se. Rather it is with the instantiation of 'Utility' type. That's why an exception is thrown from the constructor. Since 'VerifyPassword' is it is the first static method called, it appears in the stack. Just for the sake of proving that, I removed the call to VerifyPassword and returned 'true' instead. That way I was able to login to the application (no password verification), but failed at a later stage where I had called the Utility class on another method, namely Utility.ValidateSKUAdjustment(txtCurentMonthM1.Text).
I am getting this error, and cant figure out what the issue is.
Server Error in '/' Application.

I am a programer really new to all ASP applications and stuff. I have a server application done with VS, wich run correctly from there, but I need it to run from outside VS. I guess It has something to do with the IIS, and I already added it to the windows components, but I still have no clue how to run it.
View 1 RepliesSo I have seen the items about the differneces between web application and web site projects. My big question is - how can I tell which one I am running in the RC of VS 1010?
View 1 RepliesDebug-Start Debugging/Debug-StartWithoutDebugging OR Project ASP.Net Configuration launches Dreamweaver. It started lastnight, I had both Deamweaver and VWD 2008 express open at the same time - (I was looking at JQuery in the Microsoft and Dreamweaver enviroments simultaniously). After the first tie this happened, I closed down Dreamweaver (CS3) and it opened when I tried to run my VWD project. I reinstalled VWD 2008 express, IIS and disabled Dreamweaver (renamed the exe). Dreamweaver still came up.
View 4 RepliesWe are trying to add a new page to a running web application. such that a new dll and aspx file are being added. I've setup break points in the code file and Built the application transfering the dll to the remote machine bin file and the aspx page to a folder within the web application. Note this folder is not in the same folder hierarchy as it built in. I'm not sure if thats the problem. Basically we are appending new functionality to a web application.I've copied the correct Remote Debug Monitor to the server and have it running.
View 1 RepliesI have some shell scripts on a Windows 2003 server. These scripts process some flat files and upload data to Oracle using sqlldr. Currently I'm using telnet to go into the box and run each of these scripts manually. Is there a way that these scripts can be run from a ASP.Net/Winforms application?
View 1 RepliesI'm opening some project off of the codeplex website. When I do, it lists two types of files: *.cs and *.debug.cs me what the *.designer.cs" are? Also, when I build the application, it creates a "dll" in the "debug" directory. How do I make a dll get built in the "release" directory?
View 2 RepliesHow can i debug my deployed web service?
I have deployed a web service on my development machine and i am connecting it through my asp.net application, both web service and asp.net application are on same machine but web service is hosted on IIS.
I have 2 sollutions (1 CMS, 1 Customer specific with controls). The customer controls are coppied (with xcopy) to the CMS location. In the web.config of the CMS the specific controls are registered. The controls are useing functions from the CMS dll as well. How can I debug those two solutions as it where only one? I tried to start the CMS in debug mode with breakpoints in de CMS and customer controls, in this case only the breakpoints in the CMS are used. If I run the customer controls in debug mode only the braekpoint in this solution are used. The CMS is running on my local IIS 7.
View 1 RepliesI am using VS2010 and am working on an ASP.NET web application for .net 4.0.
I have created a file called StringUtilities.js and placed it in a subfolder of my application called Scripts.
The entire content of the file is listed here:
[Code]....
In one of my .aspx pages I have the following code:
[Code]....
On a button's "OnClientClick" (for example) I call the method encodeText() and everything works fine.
Today I added the method updateImage() which calls StringUtilities.js - updateAttribute() method, also added today.
If I open that unit in VS2010 and place a break point in the source code for the new method it turns white and says:
"The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document.".
What gets even stranger (this is so hard to exaplain)....
Before today I did not have the method updateAttribute() in that .js file. So even though my source editor is showing all of my new source code changes, if I trace the previous method that did exists - htmlEncode(), the trace lines in the editor are highlighting where the lines "used" to be. which is near the top of that file as if my new code was not there.
It just sounds like there must be a different way of tracing javascript and the way I am doing it must not be it. I would have assumed it worked the same way I would trace my c# code.
When I ran Vista (x64) Prem with IIS7 and VS2008 sp1, I could press F5 and start debugging a web application and the debugge would run as long as I needed. I got a new PC that has Win 7 (x64). Now, the debugger will run 30-60 seconds and then quits. The web application still runs but the debugger shows that it is not in debug mode and the breakpoints are no longer hit. I know you can attach to the w3wp process and debug that way, but has anyone found a way to keep the debugger running for as long as you need when you press F5??
View 1 RepliesI have VWD Express and I can't debug lower layer methods in the application the debugger doesn't step into breakpoints that are set in these layers. what do I do? I need to debug lower layer assemblies most of the time.
View 10 RepliesI have vs 2003 & 2010 on same machine. But my application is in asp.net 1.1 so I have to work on VS 2003. (I dont have to migrate to 4.0).
I have followed this link http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa239576(v=vs.60).aspx but still it is not working.I put a break point on page load of my first login page. when I hit F5, the control comes to visual studio and make that line yellow but stays for few seconds only and then leave the contol and visual studio automatically.I'm not able to debug it. Don't know what the problem is.
I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for this but I was just wondering, I'm very new to Javascript programming and was wondering if their is a way to debug embedded JavaScript from Visual Studio, current and old versions?
View 7 RepliesI had everything up and running fine, was able to debug and everything.
I could attach to process and run a SP in the database and it would fire over to VS stopping on the breakpoint.
I can't remember what I did to mess it up but I ended up uninstalling my DB and reinstalling it; SQL Server 2005.
Now when I try to attach nothing happens. The SP runs and that is it I never go back into VS.
I'm thinking I have to reinsatll VS now.
