Nov 27, 2010

I made a small app to capture frame from video using asp.net, in visual studio, it works fine. however the problem arises when i try to use any other servers, I am currently using iis 7.5, and trying to debug on server, but alas when i reach some region of code the attached w3wp.exe just get detached, the process crashs, no debug available anymore.

Faulting application name: w3wp.exe, version: 7.5.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bd0eb
Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000

Visual Studio :: Unable To Start Debugging On The Web Server. The IIS Worker Process For The Launched URL Is Not C?

Jul 19, 2010

Unable to start debugging on the web server. The IIS worker process for the launched URL is not currently running.I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, VS 2008 sp1.When I first try to debug I get the error msg above. I wait a few minutes (presumably some service is starting) and debugging will start but no breakpoints are recognized.Some of the things I've tried:Changing the binding of my site from a static IP to "*".

Enabled windows authentication.made sure localhost = 127.0.0.1 in the hosts file.The website was built under windows xp and whatever version of IIS ships with xp. My web config has no errors that I know of but might be missing something required for iis 7 (??)

How To Debug A Dump File For An Worker Process In Visual Studio 2010

Aug 23, 2010

I've run into a particularly nasty bug where an ASP.NET website attempts to make a call to a WCF service method that sends IIS into a death spiral...that ultimately brings down the associated app pool. It never gets to our log4net code that outputs unhandled exceptions.I was watching w3wp.exe processes spin up and die, so I figured I'd take a dump file on termination using ProcDump from SysInternals using the following command

Incorrect "Unable To Start Debugging - Attach To Worker Process" Message In Delphi 2007

Feb 2, 2010

I have seen this for a long time, and finally decided to put the question up here. I have some applications that I need to maintain that were written in Delphi 2007 for .NET (ASP.NET 2.0). Normally, the first time I run the application (using IIS) I get the classic "Unable to start debugging on the web server. Unable to attach to ASP.NET worker process" message. I simply press F9 (run) again, and it runs. Sometimes I have to try running several times before it will actually run. I am running Windows 7 64-bit (and have seen the same effect on Vista 64-bit). I do have IIS configured for ASP.NET, and I do have the following code in my Web.config file.

<system.webServer>
<modules>
<add name="DbgConnect" type="Borland.DbkAsp.DbkConnModule,Borland.dbkasp,Version=10.5.0.0,
Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b0524c541232aae7" preCondition="managedHandler" />
</modules>
<validation validateIntegratedModeConfiguration="false" />
</system.webServer>

The point is that I eventually can run the application in the debugger, sometimes even on the first try. Many times when I get the failure it happens about 15 seconds or so after I press Run, sometimes even after I've hit a page or two (or three) of the Web app. And, yes, when Delphi gets into this mode, I can simply run without debugging, and all is fine (unless I really want to debug). And, I can just keep on trying to run in the debugger and eventually it will just work.

It appears that Delphi's .NET debugger is somehow getting the idea that the application cannot run, and then gives up and stops the process (which as I've mentioned is sometimes clearly running). I know of other developers who have also seen this behavior. My question is, does anyone know how to stop this annoying behavior?

Visual Studio :: Windows XP Crashes On Building Website In VS2008?

Mar 24, 2010

I am ruuning VS 2008 on Windows XP Service Pack 3. The problem I am facing is that my windows crashes after a blue screen whenever I run a website in VS2008.Its only with websites projects in VS2008 but not with WinForms projects. WinForm applications running without any problem.This happens in this sequence that when I run the project, it starts, debugs and port is opened for my project (a popup that comes right near the system clock in taskbar) and suddenly after that a blue screen comes and Windows restarts. After restarting,
a message comes that system has been recovered from a serious, send report to Microsoft blah blah blah...Can anybody figures it out what problem there can be?

How To Recognize Whether The Process Is The IIS Worker Process From Within A .NET Code

Dec 25, 2010

Dear ladies and sirs.

I have a .NET infra code running both within the IIS worker process and within a desktop client app. How can the .NET code determine whether it is running within an IIS worker process?

I know that I could check the name of the process (w3wp.exe, for instance), but I would like a more robust approach. I wish to make a side note. This is not a production need. I need this information to enable certain scenarios useful during the development and testing phase. Specifically to ease the testing of secure vs non secure configurations.

Visual Studio 2008 IDE Freezes/crashes When Opening .aspx File With Css Included

May 17, 2010

Visual Studio (SP1) runs fine until I try and view .aspx source files with the lines

<style type="text/css">
</stlye>

anywhere in them, upon which it freezes (i.e is totally unresponsive) and I have to use the task manager to shut it down.

I have read a lot of questions about Visual Studio 2008 crashing on viewing some source files. However, I still can't fix this problem.

I have systematically deleted and re-included all other code and it comes down to these two lines, which is very confusing. Sometimes it happens as soon as the lines are added, sometimes it doesn't freeze until I build the solution with any of the problem pages open. I can add external style sheets, and it only started recently.

I had Resharper 4.5 installed and have since uninstalled it, and do not have anything else installed.

Also, it happens to other people with the same source code, and re-installing Visual Studio does not fix the problem. So I have several questions:

Is there any way I can find out what's happening? I don't understand how the code (the css tag itself) could crash Visual Studio, and am thinking that this is unlikely and it must be something else within my solution, would this be a safe assumption? Could this have anything to do with installing Office 2010?

Visual Studio :: How To Enable Debugging In Visual Studio 2008

Sep 7, 2010

I have upgraded a Visual Studio 2005 Web Site in a 32 bit server to Visual Studio 2008 maintaining the same 2.0 framework in a 64 bit server with Windows 2008 R2 Server. The Web Site has several class libraries.

After porting to Visual Studio 2008 2.0 Framework using the Upgrade Wizard, I found that I was unable to hit a break point in the Project code behind files while I was able to in the class libraries. The bin folder has the dlls and the corresponding pdb files for the class libraries. I did start the Web site as an Administrator and made sure whole bunch of IIS7 properties are properly set.

I tried to rebuild the solution as a Web Application in Visual Studio 2008 and gave up that approach as I faced hundreds of error messages pointing to missing references and namespaces inspite of adding whole lot of references and namespaces to the Web.

Way To Attach To The Worker Process In VS

Jun 2, 2010

I'm using VS 2010. And in VS 2010 it's even more painful now to attach to the worker process when you want to test your local IIS site via IIS, not the VS built-in web server.It's more painful because now when you select the worker process () via the Debug Menu | Attach to Process | w3wp.exe it brings up an additional prompt asking if you're sure you want to do this.

Visual Studio :: Limiting Debugging To The One File

Dec 6, 2010

I have a site that I am developing with VS 2008. I have a breakpoint set in my code behind file. This file is vast as some of it was created with Iron Speed 7.0. What I'd like to do is limit the debugger to the one file. That is, no matter where the code goes it skips over code in other files, and automatially breaks when execution returns to the file I put the break point in. The code is too vast to step a bit at time and choose to step into or out of bit of code. I want it to just debug the current file.

Visual Studio :: Unable To Start With Or Without Debugging

Nov 22, 2010

I have used Visual Web Developer (versions up to 2010) with no problems for several years. Starting last week I am no longer able to run or debug any ASP.Net application locally. I am running Windows XP, IIS 5.1, IE8, Visual Web Developer 2005, targetting .Net 2.0. I am not able to Start Debugging or Start Without Debugging for any project. When I attempt to Start Debugging, IE browses to [URL] instead of to the project I am attempting to run. When I Start Without Debugging, IE opens to about:blank and then when I close that window another IE window opens to [URL]

Maybe irrelevant, but I had the same problem with IE7 and VWD 2010 (versus IE8, VWD 2005). IIS is set to .Net version 2.0. I have the same problem whether I add a virtual directory to my project in IIS or not.
