Visual Studio :: Windows XP Crashes On Building Website In VS2008?

Mar 24, 2010

I am ruuning VS 2008 on Windows XP Service Pack 3. The problem I am facing is that my windows crashes after a blue screen whenever I run a website in VS2008.Its only with websites projects in VS2008 but not with WinForms projects. WinForm applications running without any problem. This happens in this sequence that when I run the project, it starts, debugs and port is opened for my project (a popup that comes right near the system clock in taskbar) and suddenly after that a blue screen comes and Windows restarts. After restarting,
a message comes that system has been recovered from a serious, send report to Microsoft blah blah blah...Can anybody figures it out what problem there can be?

Visual Studio :: Should Windows 2003 Autoupdate VS2008?

Feb 11, 2010

I installed Microsoft Windows Sever Enterprise Edition (rus) SP1, downloaded (manually) and installed Windows Server 2003 SP2.Installed VSTS (Visual Studio Team System) 2008 (with MS SQL 2005 Express with it, MS Office 2003, MSSQL2008 Developer Preview), IE7.And my Windows Update does not detect/autoupdates any updates/service packs for VSTS2008 and MSSQLServers...like Windows XP, only updates for operating system Windows Server 2003, .NET, IE7, MS Office, etc.

Is it something wrong with my setup?Should Windows Server 2003 autoupdate detect and install VSTS2008 and MS SQL Servers updates, or should not?

Visual Studio :: VS2008 SP1 Attempts To Connect To Time.windows.com When Starting Applications

Feb 13, 2010

My workstation does not have Internet access, but it uses a DNS server on the LAN. Every time I start any ASP.NET application from Visual Studio with either F5 or Ctrl-F5, the workstation (I don't know whether it's Visual Studio or Webdev.Webserver.exe) asks the DNS server for the IP address of "time.windows.com". The application is not started until the LAN-only DNS server returns an error, which results in a 10-second delay, during which the Internet Explorer is started, but displays a white background. Is there any way to prevent these connection attempts?

Visual Studio Erroneous Errors When Building A Website?

Apr 9, 2010

Visual Studio 2008 shows a lot of erroneous errors when building a website (not a web project) in the errors list. These errors are usually corrected (removed) when I rebuild the site a couple times but they cost me wasted time.Is there anyway to hide the erroneous errors?

Update:
I've decided to look into this to see if I could reproduce it. This is the exact behavior I am seeing, using the website model, I type some invalid syntax on a page. The errors list fills up with errors. I correct the error and the errors list does not update. I build the project and the errors list still shows the errors but the build shows as build completed. I build the project a second time and the errors list is cleared.

My question is there anyway to make the errors list clear on the first build? I thought it might have something to do with page build vs website build but it seems to make no difference. I am not using any third party dlls on this website.

Visual Studio :: Building A Project From Website Files?

Oct 30, 2010

I have been asked to do some work on a website. I downloaded all of the files and chose "open website" in Visual Studio. In the picture below you can see the file structure. When I run the project I get some errors such as "could not load type 'AdminSite.Partner.Listing" or "file project/adminmaster.master does not exist'. Now, those files are indeed there. I have noticed that within the Admin folder and the Home folder there are compiled DLLs in the bin folders. Also, there are project files within each of those folders. I've tried opening the project files and the projects only encompass the files within each of the Admin and Home directories respectively. I'm just wondering what the best way is to set up this solution. As I've done so far, by opening it as a web site, why is it not seeing the DLLs in the bin folders when I run it? Do I need to reference them somehow?

Visual Studio - Way To Create Project From Existing IIS Website, Building Stuff

Sep 27, 2010

I'm left maintaining a proprietary codebase from a third-party vendor. The vendor is still sort of around, but support is limp. The site is ASP.NET.I have made some changes but I am having a really hard time getting IIS to compile these changes in. The bin/ directory has what I believe is a precompiled dll for the core classes. I've changed these but it doesn't recompile. I have tried deleting the dll but then the app refuses to build saying that the Global.asax can't inherit the type anymore, so I don't really know how to rebuild with changes.

Visual Studio :: Debugging A Website Really Slow Since Upgrading To Windows 7?

Jul 16, 2010

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate on my work computer. Before this debugging a website in Visual Web Developer 2008 was really fast - the page loaded up like a normal website would.

Since I've upgraded to Windows 7 the page loads like normal but gets stuck for about 30 seconds at the end of the load - this is slowing me down as I normally need to use the FireBug tool as soon as the page has loaded.

Visual Studio :: Publishing Website And Windows Server 2008 IIS Setup?

Jan 26, 2010

I have created a web app using Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition and have come to the point where I need to publish the site onto my server (which is running window server 2008). I found that the publish function is not limited in the express edition, so published the app to a local file and FTP'd the contents across to my server. I then setup a website through the servers IIS manage and pointed it to the folder containing the FTP'd files.

My question is, how do I run the app? Do I need to point to a specific file?

I have tried to view a number of the files in browser directly from the IIS but keep getting the same standard connection error i.e. "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"

I have never used IIS Manager before and I can't find a resource which gives me a step by step guide to setting up a new site which has been created by Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition, are there any config changes needed.

Visual Studio 2008 IDE Freezes/crashes When Opening .aspx File With Css Included

May 17, 2010

Visual Studio (SP1) runs fine until I try and view .aspx source files with the lines

<style type="text/css">
</stlye>

anywhere in them, upon which it freezes (i.e is totally unresponsive) and I have to use the task manager to shut it down.

I have read a lot of questions about Visual Studio 2008 crashing on viewing some source files. However, I still can't fix this problem.

I have systematically deleted and re-included all other code and it comes down to these two lines, which is very confusing. Sometimes it happens as soon as the lines are added, sometimes it doesn't freeze until I build the solution with any of the problem pages open. I can add external style sheets, and it only started recently.

I had Resharper 4.5 installed and have since uninstalled it, and do not have anything else installed.

Also, it happens to other people with the same source code, and re-installing Visual Studio does not fix the problem. So I have several questions:

Is there any way I can find out what's happening? I don't understand how the code (the css tag itself) could crash Visual Studio, and am thinking that this is unlikely and it must be something else within my solution, would this be a safe assumption? Could this have anything to do with installing Office 2010?

Architecture :: Dsofile.dll Not Working In VS2008 Website On Windows 7 64-bit Machine / Error: 80040154

Oct 22, 2010

I need to extract meta-data of different files, as uploaded by the user.

For this I found out dsofile.dll from MS. Now the problem is that the version I've downloaded from

[URL] is working fine with Windows XP but giving run-time error in Windows 7 64-bit system. Finding more on the error I was getting I came to know that the dll would not work for 64 bit OS. I also downloaded 64-bit from [URL] but still am getting below run-time error:

Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {58968145-CF05-4341-995F-2EE093F6ABA3} failed due to the following error: 80040154.

I've two questions:

How can I solve this run-time error and from where will I get dll working in VS2008 Website on Windows 7 64-bit?

Is there any other way I can extract meta-data (all the attributes/properties other than exposed by System.IO.FileAttributes) of any file (could be doc, docx, xls, xlsx, jpg, pdf, txt, etc.) uploaded by the user?

Visual Studio :: Which VS2008 Edition To Buy

Can we buy a one edition of Team suite and the another Professional edition for the other developer, or it has to be Team suite for all developers.

Do you think we are going to miss anything by buying Professional edition for both of us.I'm not really sure which way to go.

Visual Studio :: Unable To Debug Without Building?

Jan 26, 2010

I'm developing a large application in C# Visual Studio. It's reached the point where it takes about a minute to build the entire thing. In order to speed the debugging process, I want to be able to run the program with a debugger without building the entire thing. This seems like a very basic thing one should be able to do, but I've been unable to figure out how to accomplish it.

I have found the area in Options under "Projects and Solutions/Build and Run" where you can specify what VS should do "On Run, when projects are out of date:". I've tried changing it to both "Prompt to build" and "Never build," but it still always builds my entire project whenever I start debugging.

At the moment, I'm circumventing this by starting the program from its executable and attaching the debugger to it, but this is a bit of a hassle and it feels like I should be able to get VS to understand I don't want it to build when it debugs.

We recently converted the VS.2005 application into VS2008 in XP machine and it was working fine like compiling with out any issues and working as expected. But after that login screen came when ran the applciation without environment selection (production, DEV, Testing etc). basically we are getting this environment setup from system registry, we uderstand that Win7 is looking in different location hence no environment information is coming up..later we see that where the code is looking for environment environment and created environment keys in registry, after that environment infromation displayed in login screen but not able to login into applciaiton throwing exceptions like " Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG))"

I added an additional aspx page. Then I got a strange error. When I pressed f5 a message box appeared saying that I had not made this version with the debug option. Then from reading an internect post I disabled only my code. That got rid of the message box error but now the debugger does not stop at any break point? Of course this happen when I need to go live with this project in a day.

Visual Studio :: Running VS2008 And VS 2010 Parallel To Each Other?

Feb 28, 2011

I've got about 30 projects in VS 2008 and we are finally starting to upgrade to 2010. I get change requests pretty regularly so I'm likely to have to make changes to projects that are still in 2008 after VS 2010 is installed. Is it possible to intall VS 2010 without messing up the VS 2008 install? If so is there any particular trick to it so they live side by side or do they automatically do parallel install in different directories?
