WCF / ASMX :: Create Xml File That's Directory Of Existing Xml Files
Jun 3, 2010
I would like to figure out how to create an xml file that is of a directory of existing xml files. With this file I would then have an autocomplete extender to locate said blogs.
I've been reading quite a few tutorials on web services and xml files and one thing isn't quite clear to me. If I want to create an XML file on the fly the tutorials are pretty straight forward but, I want to grab an existing XML file from the web server and return the whole thing. Do I need to read the XML file and send each individual node or is there a way to send the file all at once? The tutorials imply that the whole file could be a node but I'm not clear on what that entails or if it would work. Also do you have a link to an example?
We are currently updating our policy page on our intranet. Currently the page is written in ASP and connects to an Excel spreadsheet that serves as an index, which contains policy name and number. We also have a directory that contains all of the policiesnamed the policy number. The control that is currently being used will get all of the policies listed in the index and create links for them. We do not have to manually create the hundreds of links we just update the index. Does anyone have an idea of a control or a way I can accomplish this in asp.net?
I have static content like html, css javascript stored in DB. when a user requests for these i create a temp file in virtual directory and return the url. My web app is hosted on a IIS server. On some systems on creation of a file my IIS Application pool crashes and restarts. If i disable file-monitoring though the problem is resolved, but i dont have this luxury when i am deplying at the client end. Is there any way by which i can avoid app pool crash during file creation? If not is there any way by which i can serve static content like html, css, images, xml and js without creating temp files. I would need a generalized way of handling all these data types.
in the pics folder is jpg's that are the buttons for a web page, the web page is in the MasterArt folder and is named default.aspx upon a user creating an account, i have my program create a folder under a subfolder named ARTIST
I got that part but now what I need to learn how to do is to have at run time, when a new user creates an account, that my program creates a subdirectory under the ARTIST subdirectory and then I copy the default.aspx from the MasterArt folder into their folder, then copy the folders and contents of the 4 subfolders (pics, videos, music, other) so that they now have the direcotries and its contents.
Example: I create a user account and my artist name is Kevin
a subdirectory is created called Kevin, the folder Kevin should now have the default.aspx page, and 4 sub folders, pics, videos, music, and other.
I have a web in ASP.NET+VB code and there is a folder named POLICY and there are pdf files in it. i want to display the list of files in a aspx file with hyperlink so that the files listed can be opened...
I have a WCF service in a virtual directory that is called in the code behind of a page that is in the parent directory, when i debug the code i can see the wcf service is being called, however when the service calls Membership.GetUser() it alway returns null. The user has already logged in to the asp.net site. When i call the service via jquery it does pick up the correct user, but i need to be able to call it via the code behind as well. I am developing in .Net 3.5 how i can make the Wcf pick up the logged in user?
I have a WSDL, and I need to write this web service. (I am not the client, I am the provider of this service) Is there any tool and/or best approch to create this Web Service?
As virutal directory points to physical path of the application, so if the IIS root directory is C:inetpubwwwroot and the application is stored at D:websites, than we need to create a virtual directory but if the application content is placed at C:inetpubwwwroot, then why still need to create virtual directory.
I have zip files in one directory . I want to iterate through all files and check the file size. If file size <>0 kb then want to move to another directory. How can I do that?
I have a new asmx web service (written with .Net 3.5), I'll be accessing this service from a Silverlight 3 app, and I want to add the service to an existing asp.net web site (written with .Net 2.0). How do I go about doing that? I tried the obvious route of just copying the entire project folder to the web site, but I experienced a number of errors when trying to view the asmx page from a browser.
There's already a service on the web site, and all it has is the asmx file, the dll and a web.config in the folder, and that's where I'm at right now with me new service. It appears to instantiate just fine, but when I call a method in t, nothing happens (the AsyncCompleted events never fire).
We developed webservices and provided services to Clients. As per my requirement i have to change the webmethod signature datatype. Can i handle without inform to client.
I added a Web Method to the existing web service. I don't see this method in my web project. I can see all the old methods but I couldn't access this method. Do I have to create proxy for this method?
i am new to ASP.NET. I am just now learning about all the benefits. I currently have some C# code that receives sensor signals such as distances from a robot and I wish to put that code into web services and into a website, so that if I want to gather some information from the robot i can through the web, as well as send signals back. I haven't found any information yet on how to do this.
I am just looking on how to intergrate the existing C# code I have to a web service
I want to view the existing files in a directory which is "~/Images". Now the code below works fine and it shows the files (with its name and other details) in this directory very well in a data grid. The name is a hyperlink, but when I click on it, it tries to view the file in "~" (i.e current working directory) instead of "~/Images" and therefore reports the server error as - "file not found".
Also, how to implement if I want the save as option when I click on the file, so that I could save it directory locally instead of viewing it in browser?
VB Code-
Imports System.IO Partial Class uploaddoc Inherits System.Web.UI.Page Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load Dim dirInfo As New DirectoryInfo(Server.MapPath("~Images")) articleList.DataSource = dirInfo.GetFiles("*.gif") articleList.DataBind() End Sub End Class HTML (ASP.NET) Code - <%@ Page Language="VB" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeFile="uploaddoc.aspx.vb" Inherits="uploaddoc" %> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <%@ Import Namespace="System.IO" %> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head runat="server"> <title></title> </head> <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <div> <asp:DataGrid runat="server" id="articleList" Font-Name="Verdana" AutoGenerateColumns="False" AlternatingItemStyle-BackColor="#eeeeee" HeaderStyle-BackColor="Navy" HeaderStyle-ForeColor="White" HeaderStyle-Font-Size="15pt" HeaderStyle-Font-Bold="True"> <Columns> <asp:HyperLinkColumn DataNavigateUrlField="Name" DataTextField="Name" HeaderText="File Name" /> <asp:BoundColumn DataField="LastWriteTime" HeaderText="Last Write Time" ItemStyle-HorizontalAlign="Center" DataFormatString="{0:d}" /> <asp:BoundColumn DataField="Length" HeaderText="File Size" ItemStyle-HorizontalAlign="Right" DataFormatString="{0:#,### bytes}" /> </Columns> </asp:DataGrid> </div> </form> </body> </html>
if i have the web application with many pages like add order page, edit order page, and delete order page actually they also interact with the Sql Server 2008 and i also create web service page call Sales_Service.asmx. i know just i need to put something like query into Web Method in Sales_Service.asmx but i have a lot of queries, i don't know which query i should put into it and how the web page call the Sales_Services.asmx
I have a WCF service which has 4 Operation contracts.
I have added a new contract and it gets the data from database and returns the result set.
I can access the new contract and the service get the correct result set. But while passing the result set to the client I get the error of The underlying connection was closed: The connection was closed unexpectedly.
What are the steps to follow after adding a new contract like new binding etc.
In ASP.net MVC 2, I can use routes.RouteExistingFiles = true; to send all requests through the routing system, even if they exist on the file system.
Usually, this ends up hitting the "{controller}/{action}/{id}" route and throws an exception as the controller cannot be found.
I do not want to use that route though (I have only a few URLs and they are specifically mapped), yet I would still like to prevent access to the file system.
Basically I want to Whitelist pages using IgnoreRoute. Is there a built-in way to do this?
My current approach is to still have a route "{*anything}" and generate a 404 when this is hit, but I'm just wondering if something is built-in already?
I hv a file upload control which save files in folder upload_html. When I upload file of same name which already exists upload_html folder it does't replace that file.........
