Web Forms :: Adding 'New' Entry Into Bound Dropdownlist
Mar 25, 2010
I thought this would be very simple but I can't get it. I have a dropdownlist bound to a datasource in order to produce a list of items. At the top of the ddl, I want a 'NEW ITEM' entry. It's not showing up.
I have a form written in C# with a SQL database to hold the data. At the end of the form, there is a DropDownList control that is blank upon the initial entry. If a user selects anything in that drop down box, upon saving the form, a new form with the same format will be created and the last form will be locked for editing. I have no idea on how to implement this or how to start on this.I'm kinda new to ASP.NET so bare with me please.
In my project requirement user wants to enter a manual entry if they can not find an item in the drop down list.
Right now what I am doing is:
I set the dropdown list autopost back true and on selectedchanged event I am hiding the drop down list and showing a text box to enter a manual entry...
This is working perfect and no problems..
but the drop down list needs to change to a text box on only selecting a "unknown" option in the list...all other list items are doing unnecessary post back to the server with no use...
I have a DataGrid with a TemplateColumn containing an asp:DropDownList and a BoundColumn. I'd like to have a VB.NET handler for when the selected item in the DropDownList changes. I'd like this handler to also update the value in the BoundColumn with the value of the newly selected item in the DropDownList.
Can someone point me to some resources I can examine to learn how to do this?
If the handler for the selection changing can give me the value of the NEWLY selected item, it should just be a matter of accessing the cell for my BoundColumn in the same row and writing to it. I do not know the syntax to achieve this.
I have a situation where I currently have a HyperLinkColumn control that I would like to modify to have a Label or simple text appear in the same column as the hyperlink. I tried setting this in the ItemCreated event but encountered the following error message
I have a dropdownlist in the edititemtemplate of a detailsview. The dropdownlist is bound with an objectdatasource. The detailsview is bound to a seperate objectdatasource which connects it to the insert method. When the page loads the dropdownlist is bound properly. However, when I make a selection and select insert I get the following error: Could not find a property named 'DeptID' on the type specified by the DataObjectTypeName property in ObjectDataSource 'objCurrentProduct'. I've tried to remove the SelectedValue='<%# Bind("DeptID") %> attribute. I can then insert without an exception being thrown but the selected value of the dropdown is not recognized. Here is the code:
I am developing a intranet site and want to track the users, I am using session for this purpose, I am using windows authentication mode so there is no login form here. When a user clicks the url for the first time a new session is created and at that time I am adding a entry in a table(say :Users) with username and logintime and sessionid etc. Below is the logic Iam using in form_load event of Default.aspx
If session("user") is nothing then ---create new session (at this point I am adding a entry in table(users)) Else --- use the same session and continue the work. End if
When I check the users info in the table some entries are created with same userid and same sessionids with different login time, how this is possible. I just want to know who is logged in and what time.
I have a bound dropdown list populated with a table of names through a select, and databinding. it shoots selectedindexchanged that (through a postback) updates a certain gridview. What happens is, since it runs from changing the index, the one that always comes selected (alexander) can only me chosen if you choose another one, then choose alexander. poor alexander. What I want is to put a blanc option at the beginning (default) and (if possible) a option as second.I can't add this option manually, since the binding wipes whatever was in the dropdown list and puts the content of the datasource.
I have a series of dropdownlists on webform in ASP 4.0. The first drop down is filled upon load, and then when a user selects a value from that list, it populates the second dropdown. To accomplish this, I have a SQLdatasource with a parametersource of the first drop-down list control. This works great, except when a user changes their selection from the first drop down. It performs the query, but then adds the list of items to the ones that were already there from the previous selection, instead of replacing it with the new data. Here is the code:
[Code]....
Do I need to do something on selectedindexchanged to somehow "clear out" the previous datasource? I can't find anything about this online, although one person seemed to suggest it was related to using a master page. (which I am using).
I have a gridview that I bind on Page Load event. In the rowdatabound event I want to add a row to the gridview and bind it based on the value of the current record. The row is not being added. Is there a way to bind the extra row in the rowdatabound event?
Private Sub grdDocuments_RowDataBound(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.GridViewRowEventArgs) Handles grdDocuments.RowDataBound If e.Row.RowType = DataControlRowType.DataRow Then Dim dt As DataTable Dim dv As DataView = grdDocuments.DataSource
I'm using XmlDataSource as the datasource for a dropdownlist. Now I want to set the SelectedValue of the dropdown when the page initially loads. I tried the OnDataBound event of the dropdown in which I could see the total items but setting the SelectedValue didn't work. In OnDataBinding event, I couldn't even see the total items probably because the list isn't bound yet.
I have a web app hosted with GoDaddy (so the web server is in Arizona - Mountain Time). My users are mostly in Central Time Zone, but I could have some from other time zones. I have a web page with a databound dropDownList using TimeZoneInfo, and I want to set the selected value of this dropDownList to whatever timeZone the user is in. Here's my code currently:
It's ok, but I want it to be smarter for those users who aren't in CST. I was hoping there is some way to grab the user's TimeZoneInfo from something like Page.Request.??
I have two tables for storing language translations - tblEN and tblES. They have the same structure which is nvcEnglish and nvcLocal - both nVarChar fields.
In nvcLocal of the Spanish table, I enter the Spanish translations of words and phrases used within my app. Problem is, when I add a bunch of new records to the English table I also have to go in and repeat the data entry into the Spanish table. I am wondering if there is a way to import the newly added records into the Spanish table using Transact SQL?The plain language query would be something like:
If the data in tblEN.nvcEnglish does not exist in tblES.nvcEnglish then insert a new row into tblES with the values from tblEN
I'm having a problem sorting a dropdown that I've bound to a SQL Server data source. I've narrowed the problem down to the fact that I have a static item at the top of the dropdown with the data-bound items appended afterwards. If I remove the static item (<asp:ListItem Value="-1" Text="All" />) the ORDER BY part of the select clause works fine. How can I get around this issue? What I would like is to have the "All" static item at the top of the list with the data-bound items sorted alphabetically afterwards. I'm using Visual Studio 2010 and ASP.NET 4 if it makes any difference.
I have a dropdown list where I need more than just a bound value and a display value. I am using this in the page load event to add a custom attribute:
[Code]....
I'm actually looping through a sqldatareader for a list of employees, but for simplicity just consider the single option added above. When I go to check the attribute EmpNum for the selected option, I am getting "null":
[Code]....
Now the really weird part...If I add an option in the HTML source identical to the one that gets added in the codebehind, the javascript function works for that row, but not the row added from codebehind. Here is the rendered HTML for the SELECT:
[Code]....
If I select the 1st record (added from HTML source at design time) the alert says "12345". If I select the 2nd record, the alert says "null". I CAN get the value ("999-99-9999") and the displayed text ("John Doe") for either record, just not the EmpNum attribute, even though the HTML is exactly the same. I am completely stumped on this one.
