Web Forms :: Updating Bound Column When DropDownList?

May 17, 2010

I have a DataGrid with a TemplateColumn containing an asp:DropDownList and a BoundColumn. I'd like to have a VB.NET handler for when the selected item in the DropDownList changes. I'd like this handler to also update the value in the BoundColumn with the value of the newly selected item in the DropDownList.

Can someone point me to some resources I can examine to learn how to do this?

If the handler for the selection changing can give me the value of the NEWLY selected item, it should just be a matter of accessing the cell for my BoundColumn in the same row and writing to it. I do not know the syntax to achieve this.

How To Programatically Set SelectedValue Of Dropdownlist When It Is Bound To XmlDataSource

Feb 25, 2011

I'm using XmlDataSource as the datasource for a dropdownlist. Now I want to set the SelectedValue of the dropdown when the page initially loads. I tried the OnDataBound event of the dropdown in which I could see the total items but setting the SelectedValue didn't work. In OnDataBinding event, I couldn't even see the total items probably because the list isn't bound yet.

VS 2010 / Checking Conditions With Dropdownlist On Each Item Bound?

Jul 21, 2011

I am binding Dropdownlist from sqldatasource. Is it possible to check conditions with Dropdownlist on each item bound, based on the select command.

Code:
<asp:DropDownList ID="DropDownList1" runat="server" DataSourceID="SQLDataSource1" DataTextField="emp_name" DataValueField="emp_id"></asp:DropDownList>
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SQLDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ConnectionStrings:ConnectionString1 %>" SelectCommand="select emp_id,emp_name,status from emp_master"></asp:SqlDataSource>

In this example code, when binding if the status of the employee is OffDuty then it must be highlighted in DropDownList.

Forms Data Controls :: Cannot Insert Value Of Bound Dropdownlist In Detailsview

Apr 25, 2010

I have a dropdownlist in the edititemtemplate of a detailsview. The dropdownlist is bound with an objectdatasource. The detailsview is bound to a seperate objectdatasource which connects it to the insert method. When the page loads the dropdownlist is bound properly. However, when I make a selection and select insert I get the following error: Could not find a property named 'DeptID' on the type specified by the DataObjectTypeName property in ObjectDataSource 'objCurrentProduct'. I've tried to remove the SelectedValue='<%# Bind("DeptID") %> attribute. I can then insert without an exception being thrown but the selected value of the dropdown is not recognized. Here is the code:

How To Set TimeZoneInfo In .NET Data Bound DropDownList To User's Time Zone

Oct 15, 2010

I have a web app hosted with GoDaddy (so the web server is in Arizona - Mountain Time). My users are mostly in Central Time Zone, but I could have some from other time zones. I have a web page with a databound dropDownList using TimeZoneInfo, and I want to set the selected value of this dropDownList to whatever timeZone the user is in. Here's my code currently:

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
DropDownListTimeZone.DataSource = TimeZoneInfo.GetSystemTimeZones();
DropDownListTimeZone.DataBind();[code]....

It's ok, but I want it to be smarter for those users who aren't in CST. I was hoping there is some way to grab the user's TimeZoneInfo from something like Page.Request.??

Forms Data Controls :: Dropdownlist Bound To Sqldatasource Adds Items Instead Of Replacing On Change?

Aug 26, 2010

I have a series of dropdownlists on webform in ASP 4.0. The first drop down is filled upon load, and then when a user selects a value from that list, it populates the second dropdown. To accomplish this, I have a SQLdatasource with a parametersource of the first drop-down list control. This works great, except when a user changes their selection from the first drop down. It performs the query, but then adds the list of items to the ones that were already there from the previous selection, instead of replacing it with the new data. Here is the code:

[Code]....

Do I need to do something on selectedindexchanged to somehow "clear out" the previous datasource? I can't find anything about this online, although one person seemed to suggest it was related to using a master page. (which I am using).

Forms Data Controls :: Unable To Sort Data-Bound DropDownList When AppendDataBoundItems Is True?

Apr 26, 2010

I'm having a problem sorting a dropdown that I've bound to a SQL Server data source. I've narrowed the problem down to the fact that I have a static item at the top of the dropdown with the data-bound items appended afterwards. If I remove the static item (<asp:ListItem Value="-1" Text="All" />) the ORDER BY part of the select clause works fine. How can I get around this issue? What I would like is to have the "All" static item at the top of the list with the data-bound items sorted alphabetically afterwards. I'm using Visual Studio 2010 and ASP.NET 4 if it makes any difference.

Get Bound Item From Within Repeater

Jun 23, 2010

I have to set a LinkButton's OnClientClick attribute but I don't know what this value is until the LinkButton is bound to. I'm trying to set the value when the repeater binds, but I can't workout how to get the 'boundItem/dataContext' value.

<asp:Repeater ID="Repeater1" runat="server">
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:LinkButton Text="HelloWorld" ID="Hyper1" runat="server" OnDataBinding="Repeater1_DataBinding" >
</asp:LinkButton>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:Repeater>
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
var list = new List<TestObject>();
list.Add(new TestObject() {TestValue = "testing1"});
list.Add(new TestObject() { TestValue = "testing2" });
list.Add(new TestObject() { TestValue = "testing3" });
this.Repeater1.DataSource = list;
this.Repeater1.DataBind();
}
public void Repeater1_DataBinding(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
var link = sender as HyperLink;
//link.DataItem ???
}

Is there anyway to find out what the current rows bound item is?

Grid Is Not Getting Bound Properly In IE?

Nov 9, 2010

My grid is not binding properly in IE and I found the reason why it is not working. one of my column value in grid is showing video and database value is

<object id='video' width='462' height='407' type='application/x-shockwave-flash'
data='http://view.vzaar.com/286291.flashplayer'>
<param name='movie' value='http://view.vzaar.com/286291.flashplayer'>
<param name='allowScriptAccess' value='always'>
<param name='allowFullScreen' value='true'>
<param name='wmode' value='transparent'>
<param name='flashvars' value='colourSet=blue&brandText=LSAT+Freedom&brandLink=lsatfreedom.com'>
<embed src='http://view.vzaar.com/286291.flashplayer'></embed>
</object>

When I comment to this column while binding, my grid is working fine and showing all next records.
But I want this column.

How to bind <object ....> tag to grid so that a video can be displayed.

C# - Gridview Bound To Filenames In Directory

Feb 9, 2010

I'm having some evils trying to get my GridView control to behave. I have the below code, which successfully displays all the files in the directory. However I require two changes, both of which I am struggling with:

a) Currently the URL you get when clicking on the URL field is [URL] (ie my home directory with the filename). What I require is that the 'Display Text' be the filename only, and the URL be my desired text followed by the filename eg: [URL]

b) I want only to see the files that start with a certain prefix eg "Pay". I can do that with something like: string[] filelist = Directory.GetFiles((@"C:MFData","Pay*.*"); but this doesn't like to bind to my Gridview!

const string DocumentFolderPhysicalPath = (@"C:MFData");
const string DocumentFolderUrl = (@"C:MFData"); [URL]; ; // now it is hardcoded but you could retreive it automatically
HyperLinkField hyperLinkField = new HyperLinkField();
hyperLinkField.DataTextField = "Name";
hyperLinkField.DataNavigateUrlFields = new string[] { "Name" };
//Would like this to work!
//HyperLinkField hyperLinkField2 = new HyperLinkField();
//hyperLinkField2.DataTextField = "Destination";
//hyperLinkField2.DataNavigateUrlFields = new string[] { (@"C:MFData") + "Name" };
GridView1.DataSource = GetDocuments(DocumentFolderPhysicalPath);
GridView1.Columns.Add(hyperLinkField);
GridView1.DataBind();

private System.IO.FileInfo[] GetDocuments(string physicalPath)
{
System.IO.DirectoryInfo directory =
new System.IO.DirectoryInfo(physicalPath);
if (directory.Exists)
{
return directory.GetFiles();
}
else
{
throw new System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException(physicalPath);
}
}
