I have a tricky situation. My application got deployed in production. A lable value needs to be changed but the problem is am setting the label value dyanamically from page load of my page. Is there way to change the label value withour redeploying? i can change the logic on codebehind but that requires another deployement which i don't want to do that as it is production.

I have the following code in visual studio 2010:

It reads the text in the textfile and displays it in the textbox. However, this link only works on my computer. How do I change the code so that when published online, it still works on anybody's PC? I think i need to refer to a relative path, but do not know how this should be done.

.aspx file that I would have never even thought to look. It was occuring because of a control(ListView I believe) that had been "completely" commented out using the <!-- --> tags. The text was all green which gave me the re-assuring feeling that this code would not be included in the website. I finally decided to search my entire .aspx page for any occurences of the variable it kept insisting couldn't be "databound" and sure enough it was inside a template of a ListView control that was commented out.

I have an ASP.NET site I built for our users to map a network printer. When I test it, it maps the printer without any probelms. When I publish it to IIS, it acts like it's going to run, but never tries to map it. I have checked all the permissions, I have tried it as a web app and a web site, I have tried to publish both and I have tried to copy and paste the folders in the root folder. I have added references to the Microsoft.Powershell.XXXX. I have changed it from "CodeBehind" to "CodeFile" and I have changed the "AutoEventWireup" to "true". There are no errors in the event log and none on screen. It clears the fields, like it should at the end of the code and that's it.
Why we say compiled code in ASP.NET using C# or VB.NET means high performance and in the other side the server controls make the website slower! so if we combine server controls + compiled code the result will be the same as other interpreted technologies, so where is the speed and performance in ASP.NET? From this point of viwe it seems to be the same as others technologies, right?

View 1 RepliesI recently upgraded my development machine to Windows 7 and have been having a bit of trouble setting up my web services locally in IIS 7.5.
The following error keeps occuring:
parse error message: type 'ClassNameHere' cannot be created.

My compiled app_code.dll is sitting in the /bin directory at the root of my virtual directory and in IIS 5.0 and IIS 6.0 I never experienced any problem like this. To me it seems as if the code from my dlls isnt being loaded or recognized for some reason.
I have web projects build in VS2003/1.1 framework and deployed in a webserver with IIS setting specified to 1.1 framework.lets say project X
I also have another web project which is build with VS2008/2.0. IIS setting - ASP version 2.0 is selected and all pages are assigned to run with 2.0* dlls. Lets say project Y
Now the problem seem to be when I hit project x, sometimes it throws errors like "error BC30456: 'Initialize Culture' is not a member of 'ASP.**"
During troubleshooting this issue, I browsed through 2.0 Temporary ASP.Net files "C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727Temporary ASP.NET Files" and found temp files generated for project X. (HUH?)
How/why 1.1 project gets compiled in 2.0 only when it errors out.( or we could put it this way that it errors out every time it gets compiled in 2.0 which it is not supposed to)
I'm confused as to why this is happening when project X has nothing to do with .net 2.0.

I forgot to mention that project X works 95 percent of the time without any errors under 1.1. This error throws randomly which we could not recreate. The time the project error out is at the same time it gets compiled with 2.0
I published my asp.net app using the basic capability (publish to disk). Now I look at the published content and it contains .cs files. Is this correct? I did right-click 'convert to web application', but the .cs files still appear.

The file is in another directory from my project like in D:folderfile.xml When publishing my code and running it I am receiving an error as not to be able to access this directory, access in denied. Which user account shall I add to this folder in security option to be able to modify it. I tried adding IIS user but it does not seem to work.

I am looking at some inherited code that I have not touched in about a year. The original designer had me first publish locally before uploading the published code to the internet server. Now I am looking a number of backed up source folders as well bas backed up published folders. I should have done a better job at naming the folders, I guess. Now I wonder: How can I tell the difference between source and published .NET code? Is there some easy way to see if some folder that contains only published code is lacking a file or xml setting?
Is the .csproj file or the .sln file part of the code pushed to the server when you publish? What other differences are there that I are immediate and obvious?

I've done a bit of searching on this subject and haven't found anything so far. I am successfully using the Profile object and am saving Profile records away into my SQL Server Database. I have checked using the stored procedures and viewed the individual records to know they are there. However, I want to create a WebForm that can enumerate through all of the users in my Membership DB (Same DB as the Profile DB) and list each user in a grid showing what values each user has within their profile. For example:

I want however to replace the 'Profile Element 1' etc etc to display the actual name of the Profile. I would like to do this programmatically so I don't have to recompile the website everytime I add a new Profile element.

Is there anyway except changeing and saveing the web.config file to make an ASP.net application to recompile itself?...
My teacher told the that by changeing the web.config file..the application whould get recompiled...but I concider that sort of an "hack" to have to change the web.config to recompile the application..is there any other way? I'm struggling once again to get something centered on a page, and fighting with recalcitrant browsers. I can fix the problem for one browser by adding a style. I can fix it for the other browser by NOT adding the style. I can determine which browser I'm using. If I can change the properties of a div in the code behind, I can create a class and apply it to the div as needed. I added an id to the class:

but in the code behind, alignLV2 doesn't seem to have a class property. Is there a way to add a class or change the style?
I m trying to change the img src using the code behind.
A dinamic image that the final user can alter anytime and after this he can send that html content to some email adress.
My trouble is that when I change the image using the code behind the img src doesn't come with html content.
There is a pattern in ASP.NET - whenever there is a piece of markup that generates code (like the .aspx/.ascx files in WebForms or .cshtml files in MVC3), these files are dynamically compiled at runtime. aspnet_compiler will produce another assembly for them, which references your code-behind assembly. This approach seems awkward to me and I don't understand why it hasn't been discontinued already. A much better approach (in my opinion) is like in Winforms or resource files - you have your .whatever file, and then there is .whatever.desginer.cs file. This designer file is created at runtime as you type. When you compile, the compiler doesn't care about your .whatever file, it just takes the .whatever.designer.cs file and produces a single solid assembly. This provides several benefits:
You can inherit your forms from each other, similar to windows forms;
You can always see the code that is being generated, possibly adjusting your markup to generate better code;
You can easily instantiate strongly typed instances of your forms;
The only benefit I can see from dynamic compilation is that You can change the markup file anytime and don't need to recompile the app.To be honest, I've often wanted for one of the first three benefits, but never for the last one. Recompiling the app to see your changes isn't that big of a deal. Especially since you have to do it anyway when working with code-behind, where the most of your time will be. And when you deliver your app to the client, you deliver it as a monolithic, precompiled block. When you update, you update everything, not just individual .aspx files - there's no point to. why is it like this? What am I missing?
