I have a published web project. I want to add some .ascx files (with .cs & designer.cs files) to that published web site. These are simple custom user controls that access methods already part of the original application. Question? Is it possible to just drop these in the published web project without building the entire solution? If not why? When I drop these files in and run my application I get the error: "Parse Error: Could not load type 'the name of my custom controls namespace'". There is not a lot of code to show so this is all I have.
Default.aspx
<%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/MasterPages/TwoColumn.master" AutoEventWireup="true"
Inherits="ApplicationName.Web.Default" CodeBehind="Default.aspx.cs" %>
<%@ Register TagPrefix="uc1" TagName="CustomControl" Src="~/Controls/Custom/CustomControl.ascx" %>
<asp:Content ID="content" contentplaceholder="cph" runat="Server">
<uc1:CustomControl ID="cc1" runat="server" CustomProperty="Hello World" />
</asp:Content>
CustomControl.ascx
<%@ Control Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="CustomControl.ascx.cs"
Inherits="ApplicationName.Web.Controls.Custom.CustomControl" %>
<asp:PlaceHolder ID="ph1" runat="server></asp:PlaceHolder>
CustomControl.ascx.cs
using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.IO;
using System.Linq;
using System.Web;
using System.Web.UI;
using System.Web.UI.WebControls;
namespace ApplicationName.Web.Controls.Custom
{
public partial class CustomControl : System.Web.UI.UserControl
{
///My logic
}
}
Again it seems so easy. What am I missing? Or is this not possible?

I have the following code in visual studio 2010:
TextBox1.Text = My.Computer.FileSystem.ReadAllText("C:UsersBabyDesktopSimulator websiteResourcesTextFile.txt")
It reads the text in the textfile and displays it in the textbox. However, this link only works on my computer. How do I change the code so that when published online, it still works on anybody's PC? I think i need to refer to a relative path, but do not know how this should be done.

I have an ASP.NET site I built for our users to map a network printer. When I test it, it maps the printer without any probelms. When I publish it to IIS, it acts like it's going to run, but never tries to map it. I have checked all the permissions, I have tried it as a web app and a web site, I have tried to publish both and I have tried to copy and paste the folders in the root folder. I have added references to the Microsoft.Powershell.XXXX. I have changed it from "CodeBehind" to "CodeFile" and I have changed the "AutoEventWireup" to "true". There are no errors in the event log and none on screen. It clears the fields, like it should at the end of the code and that's it.

I have a tricky situation. My application got deployed in production. A lable value needs to be changed but the problem is am setting the label value dyanamically from page load of my page. Is there way to change the label value withour redeploying? i can change the logic on codebehind but that requires another deployement which i don't want to do that as it is production.

When I turn on Code Coverage in my test settings, on a project that references the Unity DI container I get the following error:
Cannot initialize the ASP.NET project'{Project Name}'.
The event log specifies the following reason:
Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Practices.Unity, Version=2.0.414.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. Strong name signature could not be verified.

I published my asp.net app using the basic capability (publish to disk). Now I look at the published content and it contains .cs files. Is this correct? I did right-click 'convert to web application', but the .cs files still appear.

How can I tell the difference between source and published .NET code?
I am looking at some inherited code that I have not touched in about a year. The original designer had me first publish locally before uploading the published code to the internet server. Now I am looking a number of backed up source folders as well bas backed up published folders. I should have done a better job at naming the folders, I guess. Now I wonder: How can I tell the difference between source and published .NET code? Is there some easy way to see if some folder that contains only published code is lacking a file or xml setting?
Is the .csproj file or the .sln file part of the code pushed to the server when you publish? What other differences are there that I are immediate and obvious?

In an obviously misguided effort to keep versions of a site built through vs2010 .aspx vb I copied the entire visual studio 2010 folder from its default location on my local pc to a folder on a network. I then opened the network folder version of the project in VS, made a small change to some text, built the site sucessfully and published the site sucessfully to the same place the original site was published to. However, when I try to access the site I get the "resouce cannot be found" error. In a bit of a panic I opened the original project in VS and published it...no problem the site comes up. What am I doing wrong?

I have a javascript menu and this is really weird.
The original code had a header.gif and a headerover.gif. That was the background for the menu tabs but I did not like the colors, so I made my own gifs, and renamed them to red.gif and yellow.gif. And of course, they were red and yellow, just to test it out. It worked great, the tabs were red, and yellow when hovered over. Put it into my project, and included the script file, the images and code and i worked, red and yellow. Made new pics, blue and grey. Named them normal and hover. Added them to the project,and changed the code to point to those images instead, but still red and yellow????? SO I deleted all the code from the css and the aspx page. I deleted the script, and deleted the images. I saved the project. Then I put the images in the project (hover,normal which are blue/grey) and added my aspx code and my script and my code to css (pointing to hover, normal which are blue and grey)
Run the project and it's yellow and red. How is this possible? The images aren't even in the project, the code doesn't point to any red or yellow image.

In ASP.NET MVC Application I would like to document my Views, so that I can generate a documentation (using NDoc). Since Views do not have a code behind the documentation should go somewhere into the View directly. I also do not want to generate code-behind file for each View in the project
Is there a tool/workflow/configuration that would allow me to extract inline documentation comments from aspx files (Views)

Before using any class in your website project/page we have to add it's assembly reference to our project. Right?
Now, when I am using SmtpClient class from System.Net assembly after adding the System.Net.Mail namespace in namespace node of application's web.config file but without adding assembly reference to the project, it still accepting and running the code. Why?
I enquired the machine's web.config file located at C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727CONFIG but didnt find assembly reference for System.Net there also.
So bit confused how it is working and where the assembly reference has been added and how?

i am trying to work up with captcha in my sign up page.Having a google search,i found a .dll which i implemented in my project and it worked fine.Now i want to know that is it a good idea to download the dll files and use it in the project instead of writing the whole code from the scratch?What are the disadvantages of using a dll instead of writing up the entire code form the scratch?

I know you can copy a Website intact to the server and have it run normally (security and compilation time aside). What about the projects that are in the solution? [whose dll's are copied to the bin when built]. Is there a way to copy the projects' code files to the server as well?
My goal is to be able to debug [by modifying code in the project if needed] directly on the server without having to install an IDE [or keep building on dev machine and copying over dlls]. I can debug/modify the website files, but not the projects.

I published my website with Visual Studio and used FTP to transfer the Default.aspx page in the root folder and the compiled file (Default.aspx.cdcab7d2.compiled) in the bin folder of an SQL server that supports ASP.NET (StartLogic). But, when I used a browser (Firefox) to access the Default.aspx web page, all that I got back was: This is a marker file generated by the precompilation tool, and should not be deleted!
What am I doing wrong? Why can't I get the page to be displayed properly?
