I get the above error when I am trying t o view rdlc report. I have this code

ReportViewer1.LocalReport.DataSources.Clear();
I recently started using SSRS 2010 and I didnt come across this issue in 2005 or 2008 versions of reporting services.
I have a report that drills down to child report1 and then that drills down to child report 2 but clicking a field in the report.
When I click on the link on the first report to go to the second report. I get this error message
"A data source instance has no tbeen supplied for the data source ''reprort2dataset"
I am not sure how to handle this error.
All reports run fine stand alone, but when I try to link them up I get that error.
I have a report viewer running the reports in an aspx page.
Where and what am i missing?

I am getting the following error while i bind the dataset dynamically in reportviewer(Asp .net 4.0) . I have binded the dataset using stroedprocedure.

Traditionally with an Object Data Source, the wired up class will have its public properties available for binding (i.e. Gridview columns, etc.) which works well. But what if one of my wired up business objects has a property that is an object itself; can I drill down to a property on that object property and still use it?
So in additiona to the traditional:MyBusniessObject.OrderID...I want to use:MyBusniessObject.Customer.NameID
Your 1st response might be to just wire up the 'Customer' class, but I need properties both on 'MyBusinessObject'and 'Customer'. I do not think this can be done, as the ODS will not display properties on an object instance property. I have tried manually typing in the drilled down value as well, but that wasn't a success either.

I'm new to ASP.net 3.5 and trying to create a test site so I can figure out how to use it in the real world. I have created a FormView (Formview1) based on a Client table using Linq Data Sources. The page includes a DropDownList to lookup Clients. I have added a list option (<asp:ListOption value="" Text="(Select Client)" and set AppendDataBoundItems=true so my added option is displayed. I decided to try to use Formview with only the Edit and Insert Modes, and I have set the Default Mode = Insert. When you open the page, a blank Client record is displayed.
The Client record contains serveral lookup fields and they have drop down lists for each. When I select a client from the Client DropDownList, is get the following message 'ddlClientType' has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items I had this problem before and decided the best way to handle this (in the interim) was to turn off foreign key constraints for each of the lookup fields (e.g. ClientType) in SQL Server. That worked for 2-3 days. Now the problem has started again.
When I develop in other applications, I would simply create a lookup data source based on a Union Query with the actual data and a blank record. How can you do this using Linq DataSources. Can you get access and modify the queries?
I've been using the Item Inserted event for my data controls, such as details view. I'm wondering if there are advantages to doing this with the data sources instead of the data control. There is a lot of overlap in the events provided by these two types of controls. Are there advantages to using the events raised by the data source instead of the ones raised by the data control itself. Should I be using the events raised by the data source instead of the control used to enter the data?

View 4 RepliesI'm creating a page that allows the user to create a new object that will later be stored in the database. The problem is that the design of ASP.NET data controls seems to insist upon only working with pre-existing data that has been stored in a database (or XML, etc...).
I'm basically trying to get the user to compose a list of items and specify a quantity for each item. I could do this by generating table rows but the rows are lost at each postback. The data view controls seem to be designed only to be bound to a data source but until the list is complete, the data can only be in memory.
What control is appropriate for this and how can I achieve this with that control?
I am trying to create FormView that has details aboout author. But some details about his books like pubdate, title resides in some other table. In the source page:

but this field has to be obtained from other table:

I enable AutoGenerateEditButton = "true", which can show me edit button in the child grid. Also i have tried to use the event rowediting which can return e.NewEditIndex too. for the master i use sqlDatasource design time. for the child grid am confusing how to do the edit/delete/add.

I have extended GridView in order to have consistent look & feel, paging and sorting. However, when the page is first time loaded, the select method is getting called twice. It works fine when i move between pages in pagination.
Note, i am using Asp.net 2.0.
i wanted to retrieve things from the data base and perform mathmatical operations on it then post it to the user, so i was told to use the bullited list and bind it to the object dataSource

I have been trying everything (albiet I am a novice, but I am out of tricks) to get the Report Viewer to simply accept a couple paramters.What I have is a dropdown list, bound to an object datasource from my BLL (Areas)Then I have a report viewer. It is bound to an object datasource from my BLL (FDWelds)The second object datasource is bound to the control, dropdownlist.
In the Method FDWelds objectdatasource has a parameter @Area_AreaID, and the RDLC report has a parameter called @Area_AreaID. If I set the default in the RDLC, I can display a textbox in the report showing the default parameter, but a. It doesn't actually filter the report and b. No matter what I change in the drop down box, I can never change the parameter.I have looked online, and see lots of coding to make this work, but is there just not a simple way to bind these?If you can show me a link to where to code works with a .BLL I would be so grateful ...
I got a gridview in which I'm selecting a specific row.This gives me a string back, which is used to load some data inside a datatable, using DAL The callback works and it's also giving the correct string to retrieve the wanted data.But when I'm trying to use this fresh data update my reportviewer (.rdlc) nothing happens.For now I'm testing the event with a simple button, but even with the button nothing happens.Does anyone know what I'm missing The DAL is working correct and I'm using .NET 3.5

I have a drop down box in this edit template so that you can select a value from it and then when you hit 'Update' the value from the drop down box is committed to the updated record. Unfortunately when I do hit the update button I get a fault that the "Status" field cannot be null.

I'm using a GridView to output some information regarding an account, specifically account balances. Problem is, if there is no balance linked to the account, I need for the grid to simply display 0 for each column. EmptyDataText isn't sufficient as the columns still need to be listed, but just have the value 0.
After researching it seems like I will need to add a dummy row to the gridview if it is empty, but how do I do this using C# and ASP? Quick note as well, not sure if it's relevant but the grid will only ever contain one row.
I populate a DetailsView from an ObjectDataSource that is coded in a class - meaning that the ods Select, Update, Insert and Delete are class methods. The selected record is set to come from a GridView.SelectedValue.
My problem is that when the page loads the code crashes. I am pretty sure I know why: the DetailsView is pulling from a class object and instead of using the existing class object it instansiates a new one which is empty.

As you can see from the code the odsDetailsView gets it's information from a class object "Match". The detailsview is not controlled by any code behind.
