I want to disable viewstate for nearly all of my pages and I have used the element to do so in my web.config.On a page that specifically uses viewstate, I used the EnableViewState=true. However the page fails to work and the dropdownlists that depended on viewstate are not filled in the postback.How can I enable ViewState for some Pages when it is disabled in WebConfig?
View 12 RepliesWhy when a control does contain value but it's set to .Enable=False that all controls become disable (that's ok) but why that the ViewState doesn't retain the data on the next post back? If I get the UserControl without modifing its Enable state, the ViewState work between post back.
How can we disable a UserControl that all its control become disable (this part work) but all of them KEEP use the ViewState (this doesn't work)?
Clarification:
1)In the aspx.cs click button EDIT:
myControl.Enabled = false;
//This produce to have all controls in myControl to be disabled.
2)In the asp.cs: click Save to leave the EDIT state:
myControl.Enabled = true;
//This produce that all controls inside myControl are blank : no viewstate!
Other postback works because we do not put myControl.Enable to false.
On page1.aspx i hava a textbox with id="tb1"
On page2.aspx I have a textbox with id="tb2"
page2.aspx is set as postbackurl for page1.aspx. For both labels enabl;eViewState is true. Shouldn't the text I write in page1 also appear in the label on page2? Can I implement this without looking into Request headers, and setting the text myself?
I have a site that features some pages which do not require any post-back functionality. They simply display static HTML and don't even have any associated code. However, since the Master Page has a <form runat="server"> tag which wraps all ContentPlaceHolders, the resulting HTML always contains the ViewState field, i.e:

I realize, that when decrypted, this value of the input field corresponds to the <form> tag which I cannot remove because it is on my master page. However, I would still like to remove the ViewState field for pages that only display static HTML. Is it possible?
I use system.web.routing for a current project and experienced the problem that session = null on routed pages, but working normally on non-routed pages.I'm using IIS6 on a shared host so I can't use the suggested IIS7 solution runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true".I also tried the second suggested solution and added the following to my web.config:

This doesn't change anything either... still I have no access to the Session object.SessionState is enabled, otherwise Session would not work on non-routed pages.I'm sure there is a way to get routes and sessions to work together on IIS6, but I don't know how.

I know how to do this in the page, however if I disable in a master page will all child pages and controls be disabled through inheritance?

View 5 RepliesNow here is the weird thing. First i am running it locally on the built in vs2008 web server.I load my control in fine, do a postback from a linkbutton, locally on my machine it all works fine, no issue.However when it goes onto my host, it falls over with the message:
Failed to load viewstate. The control tree into which viewstate is being loaded must match the control tree that was used to save viewstate during the previous request.Now i also load controls dynamically and use postbacks and things in the admin area of the site...and that works fine, however my front end just keeps failing? I have been getting this error a lot lately with some of my users, and I had a couple of concerns with view state and I have read so many articles but I am still lost..
1. I use masterpage on all the pages and I need viewstate for some of the pages but..
There is a page where a user will fill out the information and then submit this data to a cgi server, and it is where I get most of the Client Disconnected errors, what would happen if I disable viewstate when they click on that button?
Now when a user browses from one page to another, does the view state from the previous page get deleted? If not how would I delete it?
Does the master page have its own viewstate? Would I be able to make sure none of items on my master page are using the viewstate?
I have a shopping cart page (Cart.aspx) that has a button that will (sometimes) post to a third party payment gateway, if payment is necessary. The payment gateway will process the payment and then do a silent post to my website (Order.aspx) so I can update the order status.
Order.aspx always throws an invalid viewstate error, even though viewstate is disabled on the page.
What's happening is that Cart.aspx (which has viewstate enabled) posts to the payment gateway, and the gateway will post it back as part of the silent post. Even though Order.aspx has viewstate disabled and validation disabled, it still tries to validate the __viewstate field it's being given.
I know setting EnableViewState=false will disable the rendering of the __viewstate field, but if another page provides the field, shouldn't it still skip validation? I tried calling ViewState.Clear() on the Page_Init event of Order.aspx, but ViewState is apparently empty. how to get around this? I don't want to disable ViewState on Cart.aspx (in some cases it may be necessary), but I can't figure out how to clear it on Order.aspx.

i'm developing a site using VS2010 and with my windows vista busniness OS. i used the default VS2010 wizard for new web application to create it. included a folder in the root directory and created new aspx pages to derive from the master page in the root directory of my site. everything shows on the new pages except the jpeg image logo in the master page. But other aspx pages i created in the root directory shows every thing fine.

View 1 RepliesPage B - loads slowly and needs to do some CPU-intensive operations on the web server.
I noticed that when someone is loading Page B, then Page A also loads slowly. This is even worse if multiple users are loading Page B at the same time. Page A won't finish loading until Page B is done.
Is there a best practice for making sure that Page A can still load quickly? Maybe a config setting or IIS setting that I need to change from its default? With 2 users loading Page B at the same time, the web server CPU usage only gets to 30% so I suspect it might be something I can tweak with the settings.
In my Application_BeginRequest I have code that gets query string value ?c=FR or ?c=US and store it in cookies.Based on query string value I have either US or FR,locale is selected from locale table.If ?c=FR then locale will be fr-FR and if it is US then locale will be en-US.My code is below.

Now when I run the project and in query string I set [URL] then for the very first page(home page itself) it shows me French translation,but on subsequent page,that query string parameter ?c=FR is lost and hence it shows be English translation not French translation since it does not pickup French resx file.If I manually append ?c=FR in subsequent page then it shows the French translation.Is there is way how I can make that query stringparameter available in all pages.Structure is there to hold Country and locale variables. In all pages I am calling GetLocalizationInfo() method as follow

i have a div in aspx page that shows a google ad.
in database i have a field which has value 1 / 2.
if 1 i want to enable the div --> ie:showit visible.
if value=2 i want to hide that div. hide in the sense there should be no blank space aand usr should not notice that somthing is hidden.

I have a few pages that are completely static. They only change at build time. But they are expensive to create. For the ones that are kind of expensive to create, I cache them for very long times using the ASP.NET output caching. But for one page, I really want it cached forever and ever or until the the next build.
What is the most expedient way to make this happen? Is there a build in feature that achieves this or a 3rd party tool?
(yeah, for the moment I plan to do the "view source" and copy paste thing, which isn't a very elegant build step)
I have added a jquey menu in my master page its working fine for those asp.net pages which are at the same level as master page.
But this menu isn't working at all for all of those page which aur in Editor's and Admin's folder. In these pages menu is displaying as simple html menu and unfortunately no jquery effect is shown on it.
I'm very confused why this menu isn't working for the pages which are in a seprate folder while the master page is added at the root level outside of all these folders.

View 1 Repliesusing c# I am entering two types of string in a text box for eg "so-123456" or "12345678" only this two formats are allowed to enter, when i enter only 12345678 i.e, without "so" next textbox in that page should be enabled, if i enter "SO-123456" textbox should be disabled. without any click event i.e, while entering text in 1st textbox if it contains "so" textbox2 should be disabled, if textbox1 contains only integer(123456) textbox2 should be enabled.
