I have a problem in my application. I have deployed application on server. i have a string in dd/mm/yyyy format. to which when i am trying to parse in datetime it is working fine on my server when i am working locally on server. but when i am trying it remotely(client) it is giving exception saying string is not recognized as valid datetime format. This is how i am trying the code.
I have implemented the following functionality that connects to webservice and downloads a favicon from a given site and saves it to a byte[] which I store in our database. I now want to set it up so that it saves the icon to the disk. However I am getting a "Parameter is not valid" when I try and create the image from the byte[].My code is as follows..
The exception occurs on the middle line. This code works perfectly 9 times out of ten, but for some favicons, even thought the icon is a valid image (or at least it appears to be and it shows in the browser when point at it) I get this exception. Does anyone have any ideas? I am pulling my hair out here!
I have been able to import an excel file sql bulkcopy locally. But when I publish the code to the server I get the following error messages:
Exception Message: 'C:MyTest.xls' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides.
I have two linqTOsql entities that has a parent and child relationship, one to many. I'm running into an issue that when I retrieve the parent record, I am unable to loop through the related records in the child table.This code fails:
I got a hard time with the Image.FromStream method in my website. The code below works perfect on my computer. But when I uploaded it to the test server, it always gives me "Parameter not valid" exception.
if (!afuImageFile.IsUploading && afuImageFile.HasFile) { System.Drawing.Image imgFile = System.Drawing.Image.FromStream(afuImageFile.FileContent); }
the afuImageFile is an AsynFileUploader control in Ajax Tool Kits. afuImageFile.FileContent is a HttpInputStream.
When processing many records starting from 10,000 System.OutOfMemoryExceptio get the error. There would be some way to handle this type of memory error ?.

I need to run a simple query to insert a record to sql server that has a date time value.My UI gets the user input parses it to a DateTime variable and sends it to BLL. BLL creates an entity and send it to DAL and DAL calls a stored procedure that runs the insert statement.During this transaction the variable is of type DateTime and I keep getting a sqlDateTime overflow exception.What is the best way to handle date time values?
I try to insert chinse word into sql server, do anyone know how come sometime it show "system.exception: word too long"; but sometime it work, even the sentences is very long??
I am using Linq-To-Sql to add people to a one-to-one table. Sometimes I get a error "Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint" when the person is already added. Can anyone give me instruction on how to handel the exception.
I am using updatepanel in aspx with master page content, required validation control. IN that updatepanel I have one datagrid through that I am trying to insert a row. When I click that linkbutton then is shows error like "sys.webforms.pagerequestmanagerparsererrorexcepti on. Error code: 405" . I tried with another project this code works fine. How to overcome this. Some times error code 12031 also appear in prompt window. Error Received: The HTTP verb POST used to access path '/PMS/Marketing/' is not allowed. I'm writing an HTTP handler in ASP.NET 4.0 and IIS7 and I need to generate a file-not-found condition.
I copied the following code from Mathew McDonald's new book, Pro ASP.Net 4 in C# 2010. (The response variable is an instance of the current HttpResponse.)
response.Status = "File not found"; response.StatusCode = 404;
However, I found that the first line generates the run-time error HTTP status string is not valid.
If, instead of the lines above, I use the following:
response.Status = "404 Not found";
Then everything seems to work fine. In fact, I even see that response.StatusCode is set to 404 automatically.
My problem is that I don't want this to fail on the production server. So I'd feel much better if I could understand the "correct" way to accomplish this. Why did the first approach work for Mathew McDonald but not for me? And is the second approach always going to be reliable?
I get an cast exception when i am trying to insert an entity in Entity Framework (using code-first). From this code :
public virtual T Insert(T entity) { return Context.Set<T>().Add(entity); }
The cast exception is like "impossible to cast ...Collection'1(Entity) to type (Entity)" I can't figure out why. I am pretty sure ive done everything right. Post entity
public class Post { public long PostId { get; private set; } public DateTime date { get; set; } [Required] public string Subject { get; set; } public User User { get; set; } public Category Category { get; set; } [Required] public string Body { get; set; } public virtual ICollection<Tag> Tags { get; private set; } public Post() { Category = new Category(); if (Tags == null) Tags = new Collection<Tag>(); }................................
I am working on a 3-tier asp.net application. Currently I'm stuck up in a situation where I need to handle a specific type of exception (User Defined) in DAL and Show alert to the user if that exception occurs in DAL.
I tried following things:
1) I raised that exception from the DAL and catch it in BLL and throw a new BLL exception to for that DAL exception and finally catch it in the UI layer to show the alert to the user. I've successfully implement this in my project. But there are some issues in this approach. First of all I feel this is not right way to do this as it may lead to performance related issues. Secondly, the application contains more than 500 pages and classes. so I need to attach additional catch block in every method to catch the BLL exception. which is the last option i'd like to take.
2) in second approach I logged the the DAL exception into a text file. but problem in this approach is that how could the UI layer know that exception has occurred and show the alert to the user. Is there any event in asp.net where i could handle all this activities?
my question is what is the best approach to handle this type of situation? Will Exception handling block help me in this?
I've tried reading many articles on this but i couldn't get an answer for my question? I might not be using right keywords for my search.
In ASP.NET,How can i know the Specific details about an exception (like What kind of Exception it is (FileNotFound /Arithmentc etc..) )from a General Exception class object.
3. Data Access Layer to do the dealing with the database.
Now i have a Contacts page from where i can add a new contact to the database.So to add a New Contact i fill in all the required details and then call a Add Method (residing in the BLL) from the page, which in turn call a Add Method residing in the DAL.this method in the DAL returns the Current Identity of the record which is then return back to the BLL method and finally delivered on the page.this is fine. but what if a get an exception how do i handle it properly because the method in DAL has a return type of int and i dont want to throw another error!! coz other wise i will have to write try catch in almost all the methods.
//something like this public int AddMethod(ContactClass contactObj) { int result = 0;[code]...
rather i want to show the user a user-friendly message which they can easily understand and in the mean while i will send a mail to myself documenting the Error that just occurred.how can i implement my custom exception classes.
When I start debugging my application using vs2010 before the default.aspx page is rendered the application_error event is fired in global.asax.
There is nothing happening in the page_load of the default.aspx screen.However, if I set a break point on the default.aspx page_load event and the application_error event here are the sequence of events: The page_load event of default.aspx is fired, there is no code to execute there so I hit F5 to continue. The application_error event is then fired.Here are some of the details from Server.GetLastError();
exception message is "File does not exist."
stack trace:

I have absolutely no idea why this event is fired. Do all of the events in the Global.asax get fired on startup?There is nothing happening on the page_load so how can an error be thrown?
I have a form in which I have two drop downs. A decision in one fires the other. The basic rule is:
Drop Down A -> select items 1,2 or 3. Drop down B loads list 1 Drop Down A -> select items 4,5 or 6. Drop down B loads list 2
This works fine on first load and save of the form. The problem is when I edit. Lets say I selected and saved item 3 in Drop Down A. On Editing: If I change Drop Down A, the select changed event fires every time I change it except when i reselect what was saved. It leaves me in a situation where I can choose 3 in Drop Down A but are left with the wrong list in Drop Down B as the event doesn't refire on that selection.
I've tried every trick I can think of but I can't seem to get around this issue. (We've tried radiobutton lists and its the same issue. Setting the value in a variable and attempting to reset the control to clear what it thinks the original value is doesn't work either.)
