Web Forms :: Get Application To Run SQL Queries And Distribute Information To All
Jul 19, 2010
Im using vb,net sql2005, ajax, .net3.5 I need some advice, ive developed an application that allows us to send real time alerts to users via audiences (each user belongs to one of 15-20 audiences), approx 1200 online at any one time. We create the alert, which is stored in SQL table, User logs in, and every 3 minutes from this point we run an sql query getting all alerts applicable to user (Using ajax timer) As you can imagine this could be very very resource heavy, so my question is, is there a way i can get the application to run the sql queries, for each of the possible audiences and maybe store this inside an xml file and then query the XML file which? This would effectivelly mean just 1 user (the application) querying the data with 15 queries and then all users getting the data from an XML file.
I have a Datalist with 6 elements inside (Labels and Hyperlink)This is in the "results.aspx" page. The process in started by the query stings being sent to the this page:...results.aspx?q=(ItemNameSeached)&cid=(City ID number)I have this bound to an SQL Data Source. My problem is that the ITEM_NAME, ITEM_ID (for the More... link), and the ITEM_BUILDING_ID are in one table in my database; The BUILDING_NAME and BUILDING_ADDRESS are in another table.I have an sql query string working to get the information in the items table but I don't know how to get the Building Information which is on another table. I know the sql query to get the building information (SELECT building_Name, building_address FROM buildings WHERE building_id = @ITEM_BUILDING_ID). My problem is that you can't bound two sql data sources and in the buildings query how do I get the value of the ITEM_BUILDING_ID label into the query.
I have a .dat file which I was given to use for a test application. I would like to distribute this file with my library. How can I do this without needing to tell them copy this here to this folder etc.
I have many mails send, and keep on increasing all the times based on few actions in my site. So if I have several mails to send by only one email id it will take long time to send all of them and also that email id will have lot of load. So I want to distribute those mails to 5 diff ids so that load of one email id will be distribute
All this I want to do using web service, so that I can send mails asynchronously.
I have written some web services that I want to make available to others by subscription. The subscribers need to use the service from a specific domain / IP address and also authenticate with a user Id and password.
What exactly should I distribute to the subscriber so they can use the services, while exposing the least about my code? How can authenticate a consumer of services without always passing an Id / password for each service?
I have a Web service currently in an ASMX file. I want to move this code into its own class library project which generates a DLL. I want to be able to drop this DLL into any Web application and have it work. However, without an ASMX file, I have no URL endpoint. How do I get around this? Essentially, I want to run a Web service without having to distribute an ASMX. I just want to distribute a DLL. Can I map the endpoint for the Web service in the web.config, or something? (I think that perhaps WCF might do this, but one look at the config for that, and it feels like the cure is worse than the disease...)
I've made a website online that allows customers to place an order. I would like the information customers input on the website to show once the customer clicks submit to confirm what was entered.
Is there a way to get load information on Application Server? How much memory or CPU is being used at a given point? I want to either 1. Limit users to use specific functionality of ASP.NET 3.5 application or 2. Deny users from accessing the application saying "Server is busy at the moment"
I'm playing around with storing application settings in my database, but I think I may have created a situation where superfluous roundtrips are being made. Is there an easy way to view roundtrips made to an MS Access (I know, I know) backend?
I guess while I'm here, I should ask for advice on the best way to handle this project. I'm building an app that generates links based on file names (files are numbered ints, 0-5000). The files are stored on network shares, arranged by name, and the paths change frequently as files are bulk transfered to create space, etc.
Example:
Files 1000 - 2000 go to /path/1000s Files 2001 - 3000 go to /path/2000s Files 3001 - 4000 go to /path/3000s
etc
I'm sure by now you can see where I'm going with this. Ultimately, I'm trying to avoid making a roundtrip to get the paths for every single file as they are displayed in a gridview.
I'm open to the notion that I've gone about this all wrong and that my idea might be rubbish. I've toyed around with the notion of just creating a flat file, but if I do that, do I still run into the problem of having that file opened and closed for every file displayed in a gridview?
I need to keep access settings to different web pages inside of my asp.net application. These setting are logins and passwords for those pages. Is it safe enough to keep them in web.config in section?
i have a secure ASP.net application ,login page and all these stuffs, i want to create a windows desktop application for some resones but i want to use the same security of the asp.net , is there anyway to get the login information of the asp.net to login to my windows desktop application?
I am getting this error while executing my Asp.Net application.i am not able to execute application using Visual Studio Interface and when i am trying to execute application from Local IIS. its executing well but when i am trying to click any button for searching etc it is giving this error. I am making an online form (literal form) that needs to have a certain function: when the user enters a 5-digit number, the form should automatically query the MS SQL DB and retrieve information associated to that number and populate other form elements (text boxes, etc.) accordingly.
So say the # was 12345 and in the DB, the record matching 12345 has name=Fred. So, when I enter 12345 into the form textbox, the name text box should be automatically populated with Fred in it.
If this is not easily achievable, I guess a submit button beside the 5-digit number text box can do.
I am still learning my way around ASP.NET and Visual Studio 2005, however I have ample experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, C/C++. The ASP.NET app is to be written in C#.
've made a quiz/score system where a user will go through categories (page by page using querystring) and after submitting his/her score i redirect them to the next page where i show them their score and i also want to show "out of x number of questions".
I've made a query in my dataset:
[Code]....
I get an error about "Cannot implicitly convert type "void" to "object". This is the first time i am trying to use the SQL COUNT so i am almost certain it has something with the way i write it in my BLL, but i cannot figure out why or how to write it as it should. Hopefully you can direct me in the right path?
I am a total newbie here. I have generated a web page using Visual Studio 2008. It connects to a database and lets me insert records. On the bottom of the form it automatically pus a link for "Insert" or "Cancel". I need them to be buttons. Is this possible? I don't even know where to begin.
i am into web development using asp.net but reg some concepts i need to be clear i am not much awate abt the netwroking & the routers , SMTP server etc i am aware abt public domain /IP which is accesiable all over like yahoo.com so when we attach a file, or place images or upload images or give hyperlink the files get stored on this publicly accesiabel space & hence visible frm anywhere
same is the case for intranet web applications/sites. its accessibale in the LAN setup as here too we have a server where we can store images files etc
so if i need to send emails with hyperlinks, attachemnents images etc & which shld be accessiable frm anywhere i need to have a public doamin & space & al this gets stored in that public space (server)
i think my this concept abt the intranet & internet is clear . if anythinh left out wuld like to knw but i have come across a prblm in which i need to do communication between the intranet & internet
i have a server in the intranet . when i attach or link any files/images frm my emailing module frm my intranet server it shld be viewable even out side the LAN setup. for doing the same wht SMTP setting needs to be done, or shld i set up a mailing server. i dont have a public domain . without a public domain/space how can i achieve it whts port_forwarding & can my soulution be achieved using it
reg the same wht can be the best possible way that can be achieved
I have a drop down with several option. I would like that if a certain item is select then a certain query will run. I read a post that azamsharp on 12/23/03 .In that post he suggested to do:
i want to display results from multiple queries in a repeater... is it possible? for example, a user searches for a keyword "test" i search 4 different databases for it, and display results from all 4 in one repeater.
I have built an asp.net web site with .net framework 3.5 and I am trying to avoid sending unncessary queries to my database in order not to have high server load. I have a login view in my master pages and it contains templates for anonymous users and members. To lighten my server load, I am using Sql Data Profiler and Database Tuning Advisor. I noticed that every page load triggers a stored procedure to get user role using dbo.aspnet_UsersInRoles_GetRolesForUser stored procedure.
My question is that if it is necessary to check for every page load or I can store it somewhere and check later. is it Login View or Login Control sending queries? is it about access rules to member's pages? or is it because I used the login controls in my master page?
I am very new on the C# and ASP scene and am after some advice on how to handle a senario. I have a asp website with 10 text boxes. These boxes form the basis of a user completed parameter selection. There is a button that will fire the query. The compliction is that some of the textboxes may be left blank and any combination may be filled in.
The only way i could think to do this is with countless IF statements. The user clicks the button and the process checks out the senarios and runs the corresponding SQL statement. The problem with this is that there are a vast amount of possible senarios depending on whether the user completes one box, all boxes, or a mix of any of them. The SQL query is the same for each senario bar the WHERE statement which changes depending on which text boxes are filled in. Is there another way of doing this or do i really need to write every possible senario out in full?
