View 9 RepliesI am creating a web form that requires a lot of validation. I use many of the validation control in asp.net already like RequiredFieldValidator and CompareValidator.
My Problem: after my custom validation for the value entered return an error message, and I pressed enter key when the field is empty, my custom error message is overlapped by my ValidationSummary.
Setting my custom error to visible = false on button click also does not seem to work as it requires for me to enter the value first.
This made me think, is there a way to insert my custom validation inside the ValidationSummary as an error message like for other validation control?
How is it possible to add a custom error message to the ValidationSummary HtmlHelper? Can it be part of my model? It's for a sign up form and I need to validate whether the user already exists.
View 2 RepliesFirst time using the ASP.NET CreateUserWizard control and we are aliasing the Username Textbox as the Email Address because the clients wants the username to be an email address. Then hiding that controls EmailAddress. This part is working fine. The problem I'm having is the error message that gets displayed on the UI says "enter a different user name." if you type in a existing email address. We need to change this to "enter a different email address". I added a event handler for the OnCreateUserError. Added the code below, and debugging the events gets hit and sets the Literal.Text of the error message to display. Still gets overwritten on a later event. Does anyone know what I'm missing to get this error message to the UI.
protected void userWizard_CreateUserError(object sender, CreateUserErrorEventArgs e)
{
// check for dupe username error
if (e.CreateUserError == MembershipCreateStatus.DuplicateUserName)
{
// If so change to dupe email error and set the literal
e.CreateUserError = MembershipCreateStatus.DuplicateEmail;
Literal errorMessage = (Literal)userWizard.WizardSteps[0].Controls[0].Controls[0].Controls[0].Controls[0].FindControl("ErrorMessage");
errorMessage.Text = "Email address already exists. enter a different email address.";
}
}
I can't get my validation summary control to show a message box, even when I look at the documentation, which tells me that the following should work:

I created an asp.net application, and it worked on my local PC. I was using Visual Web Developer 2010 beta.
Then I uploaded almost every file (not the sln and suo files) to my shared-host unix website. This Unix website is supposed to support asp.net.
But I got this error:
Server error in application. Could not load file or assembly 'dave' or one of its dependencies.This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded Does this mean my version of the net.framework is too advanced? Or maybe the version of Visual Web Developer? Or some other reason?
I have the following source code, but it is not working properly. All 3 panels popup OK. but in Panel3 I have a RadioButtonList that changes the date in the BeginDate and EndDate dropdowns. But what happens is that when the posback happens Panel 2 Reappeals overlapping Panel3 just a little. When I click on continue I get the following error.Microsoft JScript runtime error: ys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerParserErrorException: The message received from the server could not be parsed. Common causes for this error are when the response is modified by calls to Response.Write(), response filters, HttpModules, or server trace is enabled.
Details: Error parsing near '<script>window.open('.Can anyone help me figure out this error. My coding might not be right? Here is my code.

View 3 Repliesi am working in a web form (VB.NET ) in which for certain transaction i need the user OK to continue or not.
all what i found is about adding onClick event handler for buttons, but in my case there is no button to click , it's a process in which i retrieved data from database and if that data met specific conditions then a message of OK Cancel should appear to the user prompting him if he would like to continue in that transaction .

View 2 RepliesI've placed Html.ValidationSummary(true) on my page so that an error can be displayed that are not associated with a field.
This renders the following html <div class="validation-summary-errors"><ul><li style="display: none;"></li> when there are some ModelState errors are present, all of which are associated with a field. ie there are no page level errors
I've put some background and border styles on the div which give the look that I want.
The problem is that the div is visible even though the collection is empty.
I understand why this is happening but was wonder if there where any techniches to prevent the html from being rendered or to hide the div using styles if the ModelState errors collection is empty?
If its possible I'd like to avoid using jquery to hide the validation summary as the site should work without javascript.
I have searched and Googled for the answer to this question to no avail. I'm using EF4 and ASP.NET MVC2 and I have an EF4 entity "Award" with a non-nullable string field, "RecipientID". I'm using DataAnnotations for server-side validation, so in my "Award" partial class I've set up the RecipientID to have the Required attribute. When I try to submit the form with the RecipientID text box empty, I see my error message "Please enter a recipient" in the Html.ValidationSummary twice.
Would this be because the error is being thrown both by the entity (in that it is a non-nullable field with a null value), as well as the application? Whatever the reason, is there a way to "fix" this and have the error message show up only once? (Fix being in quotations because I'm not sure if this is intended behavior or not.) I didn't think it would be necessary to include relevant code, but I will if it's needed.
someone can help and provide some info or links to achieve the following:
I would like to prompt a message box with a drop down list that retrieves values from a sql server at runtime so user can select from. After user selects the value from the drop down list, the value is passed to the Master/content page to use as an additional query parameter to proceed to the next step to display content page.I understand how to create a message box in javascript, but I understand you can't do queries from javascript, if I'm correct.
I want to redirect to Error.aspx page if runtime error occurs.How to acomplish this task.
View 8 Repliesi am using create user wizard and capturing other information within content template when a new userregisters. Some of the textboxes are binded to required field validators.there is a validation control on the page and ShowMessage box is True.If they dont complete some of the text boxes then the message box pops Up with the error message.It does not however include information errors like "User already exists" or Email address already existsfrom the create user wizard membership UserName and Password Textboxesis it possilbe to hook all of these up so I get one message box with all errors including membership ones?
View 3 RepliesBy default in login template, in case user key in the wrong user name or password, the literal message will show the default error message, "Your login attempt unsuccessful..."What i trying to do is, I have a function in my system to disapprove a member, after the member is disapproved, he/she will not allow to login anymore. When the user trying to login, the default literal msg will show out. Is there any way i can do it more specifically like if the user enter the wrong password only, the literal msg show: "Wrong password entered" insteaed of the default msg?
Same goes to the change password control, for any error msg it just show the long msg but does not tell user whats wrong with the entered valueim trying to do something like if the user enter the wrong password, the literal msg show the one i wan to show.
I have tried in many way but the error message for custom validator is not shown in validation summary but it(ValidationSummary) shows error message for every other type of validator.

I am trying to handle the unhandled exceptions in my project.I tried with this following code in my web.config filebut it is not at all redirecting to an error page which i have created instead of that it is throwing an exception in my code itselef. How to print the error description over therein my custom error page.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<sys.web>......<customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="~/Error.aspx"></customErrors>...</sys.web>
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And even i tried in Global.asax page in Application_Error() method like below
Exception ex = Server.GetLastError();Response.Redirect("~/Error.aspx?errmsg="+ex.message);Server.ClearError();
And in my Error.aspx.cs page i have placed a label and i have written code like this

I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction:
How do I generate a custom error page with the error message and get it to mail me that error message?
Is there a good tutorial out there that someone could point me 2.
I have an asp:BulletedList controls with AJAX:PagingBulletedListExtender on my aspx page.
It gives error as: Microsoft JScript runtime error: Sys.ArgumentException: Value must not be null for Controls and Behaviors. Parameter name: element
If I removed, the asp:BulletedList controls and AJAX:PagingBulletedListExtender from my page then page run without any error.
I am not getting the cause of the error.
