C# - CreateUserWizard Change Error Message Runtime?
Jan 7, 2010
First time using the ASP.NET CreateUserWizard control and we are aliasing the Username Textbox as the Email Address because the clients wants the username to be an email address. Then hiding that controls EmailAddress. This part is working fine. The problem I'm having is the error message that gets displayed on the UI says "enter a different user name." if you type in a existing email address. We need to change this to "enter a different email address". I added a event handler for the OnCreateUserError. Added the code below, and debugging the events gets hit and sets the Literal.Text of the error message to display. Still gets overwritten on a later event. Does anyone know what I'm missing to get this error message to the UI.
protected void userWizard_CreateUserError(object sender, CreateUserErrorEventArgs e)
{
// check for dupe username error
if (e.CreateUserError == MembershipCreateStatus.DuplicateUserName)
{
// If so change to dupe email error and set the literal
e.CreateUserError = MembershipCreateStatus.DuplicateEmail;
Literal errorMessage = (Literal)userWizard.WizardSteps[0].Controls[0].Controls[0].Controls[0].Controls[0].FindControl("ErrorMessage");
errorMessage.Text = "Email address already exists. enter a different email address.";
}
}

I am using a CreateUserWizard. By default, the validation error messages are shown in the bottom of the control. Can I change this positioning to be shown above the control so that it is consistent with my other pages? When a user fails to enter a required fied, it displays a asterisk * next to the field. Can I have it also display some text saying that the field is required?

By default in login template, in case user key in the wrong user name or password, the literal message will show the default error message, "Your login attempt unsuccessful..."What i trying to do is, I have a function in my system to disapprove a member, after the member is disapproved, he/she will not allow to login anymore. When the user trying to login, the default literal msg will show out. Is there any way i can do it more specifically like if the user enter the wrong password only, the literal msg show: "Wrong password entered" insteaed of the default msg?
Same goes to the change password control, for any error msg it just show the long msg but does not tell user whats wrong with the entered valueim trying to do something like if the user enter the wrong password, the literal msg show the one i wan to show.

I created an asp.net application, and it worked on my local PC. I was using Visual Web Developer 2010 beta.
Then I uploaded almost every file (not the sln and suo files) to my shared-host unix website. This Unix website is supposed to support asp.net.
But I got this error:
Server error in application. Could not load file or assembly 'dave' or one of its dependencies.This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded Does this mean my version of the net.framework is too advanced? Or maybe the version of Visual Web Developer? Or some other reason?

During testing when the cookie value has been changed the asp.net runtime error page gets displayed.I have custom error mode set to On but somehow this error dosent get redirected. Can anyone tell me what I need to do/set for the custom error page to get displayed in this scenario?

be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewableon remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config"configuration file located in the root directory of the current webapplication. I'm using emails as the user name, and I've got requiresUniqueEmail="true" in the web.config.
I have an empty CreatingUser method, and in CreatedUser I perform a couple of table entries with the new user.
When I try to add a user with an email that's already in use, I get a the default success message. But no user is added, and
it doesn't reach the CreatedUser method.

How to change just the layout (template) of the CreateUserWizard control programmatically? I would to define another layout (not using the horrid table) but continue to use all the event handling and the creation of the user of the CreateUserWizard control. Just for reference, the following code doesn't work, and produces an unexpected result not representing my Template at all. The "InstantiateIn" method of the ITemplate is not called.
public partial class b : System.Web.UI.Page
{
protected void Page_Init(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
CreateUserWizard createUserWizard = new CreateUserWizard();
createUserWizard.CreateUserStep.ContentTemplate = new Template();
Panel1.Controls.Add(createUserWizard);
}
}
public class Template : ITemplate
{
void ITemplate.InstantiateIn(Control container)
{
container.Controls.Add(new TextBox() { ID = "UserName" });
container.Controls.Add(new TextBox() { ID = "Password" });
container.Controls.Add(new TextBox() { ID = "ConfirmPassword" });
container.Controls.Add(new TextBox() { ID = "Email" });
container.Controls.Add(new PlaceHolder() { ID = "ErrorMessage" });
}
}
}

i am working in a web form (VB.NET ) in which for certain transaction i need the user OK to continue or not.
all what i found is about adding onClick event handler for buttons, but in my case there is no button to click , it's a process in which i retrieved data from database and if that data met specific conditions then a message of OK Cancel should appear to the user prompting him if he would like to continue in that transaction .

Using VWD 2010/Express I started by creating a new "ASP.Net Web Site" so I got a jump-start with security,master page,and other content.I connected successfully to a SQL/Server database and all was working well, a while ago.I successfully registered new users,assigned roles,etc.I went on and made many other changes to the rest of the project - the only change I made in any of the security objects was that I added a "FullName" column to the Membership table.
That was a while ago.I just tried to add a new user(haven't done that for a while) and the registration form throws the exception shown below.All other authencation forms seem to work correctly - I can still add/change roles,etc.
As part of trying to find the problem,I created a new page and just dropped the CreateUserWizard on to it with no customization(I know, the database behind it still has that additional column),and I get the same error message.Are we not supposed to make any changes to aspnet_Membership ?
(Yes - I will eventually have to remove that column and see if that makes the problem go away,but I'm addressing a different problem with permissions with my database hosting service)

I've read some articles about how to customize the look and feel of CreateUserWizard but none of them showed me if I can display my error messages somewhere else in the layout. Currently, they appear right above the register button. I'd like to display them next to the table so that there's plenty of space.
