View 1 Replies I'm kind of at my wits end here as it appears not many others have had this problem so it's possible that I'm missing something very simple but what is it?
I'm using SQL Express 2008 R2, Visual Web Devel Express 2010, .NET framework 4 and tell me whatever else you need to know.
I'm not being able to use add new item feature to insert an empty SQL database into my little project. It tells me connection to a .mdf file require SQL server to be installed and running on local computer. Well I can connect to server with management studio and connect to it inside VS. Database explorer will show me a database when I manually connect using tools>connect to database then data source = Microsoft SQL Server. It then shows up in database explorer. So why isn't the add new item feature working for me? What gives?
I have a sql database that on some field will have a empty string/field. I am using a Datalist to display my results. How do I not make the labels that are empty not display? Currently if the field is empty it will leave a space there which my goal is if the field is empty do not leave a white space instead move the other colunms up.

I have a simple web form with controls such as test boxes, radio buttons, etc. I also have an empty SQL database created from within Visual Studio Express 2010, in the same project. I want to be able to open the web form, enter text, for example, in a text box, and have it saved in the corresponding field in the database. Ditto with the choice I make from a Radio List box, etc. Is there a simple way of connecting a control on a form with a field in the SQL database? I've tried a number of ways but can't seem to do it, though I realise it must be simple. I also think the control need to be in data entry mode, if there is such a thing, rather than automatically looking for data within the database to display (there is none). I'm new to SQL server and ASP.NET in general, though I've been through a lot of the excellent video tutorials etc.
View 8 RepliesI am using a view to create some new categories in the DB but the object the [httpost] create method receives is empty, now this does not always happens. I did double check with other catalogscontrollers and so far the implementation is the same... It only happensds when i try to create a new category the CategoryController

the ViewModel

my create view is strongly typed to ViewModel and has this relevant code create.aspx
[Code]....
and my ascx file is strongly typed to the entity model directly. when the "create" button is pressed and Exception is catched and returns the same view... I have implemented this for other catalogs and works fine except for this one...any clues... by the way i´m using entity model ...
I have a gridview with two bound fields. On clicking a button i want to display the values in first row of gridview in two textboxes. But if gridview cell is empty i am getting the text in textbox to which the value of cell is given as -' 'i know my problem will be solved if i use the template fields instead. But i want a solution while maintaining the bound fields ,if any.
View 2 RepliesI had to upgrade a sites ecuroty from a custom system to .net membership. I created all the users like this.
ds = Wservices.SelectBulkUsers()
If Not ds Is Nothing AndAlso Not ds.Tables(0) Is Nothing AndAlso ds.Tables(0).Rows.Count > 0 Then
For Each dr In ds.Tables(0).Rows
username = dr("username")
password = dr("password")
role = dr("SecurityClearance")
email = dr("email")
Dim newUser As MembershipUser = Membership.CreateUser(username, password, email, "", "", True, status)
Select Case role
Case "1"
Roles.AddUserToRole(username, "normal user")
Case "2"
Roles.AddUserToRole(username, "administrator")
Case "3"
Roles.AddUserToRole(username, "super administrator")
End Select
If newUser Is Nothing Then
errorMsg = username & " - " & status.ToString & "<br />"
End If
Next
litResult.Text = errorMsg
End If
I thought everything was fine and then went through the labourious task of replacing all the usersids used a as a foreign key in all the tables. It was only after doing this and trying to log on I couldnt, and noticed the membership table was empty. I assumed (stupidly) as it had done the users/ roles it must have done the membership. As I have already re-assigned the old user ids I dont want to import again as the userid will chnage. So my question is: Can I create a membership for each of the users in my aspnet_users table? I have the passwords etc in varchar fields at min from old table.
When we double click to page It creates an empty Page_Load event codeblock automatically. Or you know can create other control's event subroutine events by clicking the relevant event in properties window.
but how can we create a Page_Init ? is there an automatic way ? or should we just write its name and parametes manually is the only way ?
I have a little web app derived from one template (LinkDirectory). It works fine both on local and on live website.
But, when I download the database (which is filled with valud data, visible in the web app) from the website data (for maintenance purposes), it appear empty (no tables) in my local wite.
What did I miss ? is there a better way to get the database back home ?
Using MVC 2 and VS 2010 RC.I have a varchar database column set to NOT NULL and I use the Entity Framework to bind the column to a textbox. I want a user to be able to leave the textbox blank and have an empty string inserted into the database column. However, MVC is trying to set the property to null during the Create postback, which causes ModelState.IsValid to be false and subsequently the validation UI is triggered with the message "The value '' is invalid".Here is the model:
[Code]....
The controller:
[AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)]
public ActionResult Create(Candidate c )
{
if (ModelState.IsValid) // This is false when the textbox is left blank.
[code]...
i have textbox whose value converted to Int32. while passing value to database when textbox is blank it gives error as Input string was not in a correct format.
my code is
cmb.Parameters.Add("@rate", SqlDbType.Int).Value = Convert.ToInt32(txtGenRate.Text)
what should i do?
I have a form and stored procedure that inserts the data from the form. It works fine except that if a field isn't filled in it doesn't insert a NULL into sql it inserts "".
I've tried a few different ways but none seem to insert NULL, the one below still inserts "", can anyone point me in the right direction.
Here is the required part of the code, if you require more just let me know.
[code]....
So if I enter nothing into address1 field it should write NULL to screen but it always writes NOT NULL.
I have setup my business object to have a create_date and edit_date members both datetime datatypes. My company want to display the create_date and edit_date fields in a gridview for each transaction. The problem i have is that after insterting a record it will have a valid create_date but no edit_date and when displayed in the gridview it defaults to datetime.minvalue (My default). How on earth do i show an empty field in my gridview for a null datetime field in the database?
I am using similar architecture to the Imar Spaanjaars example of a tiered solution. With a few small tweeks it has worked well for me for ages. I am passing a List<Database> to my object datasource which connects to my gridview.
-7vf- I write a program by c# to check and retrieve data from database
The problrm:I have one table(1), I want to make update for that table(1) that is by compare the one column in table(2) with the right side from one column in table(1), so if there is any similarity it will retrieve the data and if there is no match just it will make the record empty(null) "the data type of retrieving columns: number 'double'", but the problems is:
I try to retrieve 11 columns, 7 of them are empty .the program run with out error ,but it will retrieve some records with full data 11 columns, but some of records has only 5 columns have data and 7 columns are empty (these records when I run the program did not retrive any columns, it give me empty records!!)
this is the code :
while (or.Read())
{ or.GetValues(field); OdbcCommand oc2=null;
[code]....
I want to retrive all data which are empty or null and all data
I am working with a gridview that pulls data from a SQL database based on selections in dropdown lists. The source table has six columns for attributes of the selection, but depending on what is chosen, there could be anywhere from one to six of those that are empty (all null values). When the column is empty, I would like to have it hidden so the page is less clunky and confusing.
I've searched around for an answer for the past couple days, but what I have found so far is either related to hiding columns that you know are empty which I will not know or removing them in the SQL code which I think doesn't work if the column is called for in the gridview code and doesn't exist in the query.
you could create your own custom Profile provider that operates against existing database tables .i want u to help me out if u have an idea where i can get steps by steps to carry out the above operation.i know there are various options in creating profile , particularlly the use of web. configuration, the default ASPNETDB, and XML files, BUT i wish to use an existing database which i prefer.
View 11 Replies how I can correct an error. I've built the MVCMusicStore tutorial here:
http://mike-ciccone.com/Store/
The first time I visit the site and attempt a database connection I get this error:
Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master'.
But when I refresh, it all works fine. I'm at a bit of a loss. I don't believe I'm attempting to create a database, but I realise that the error may not really have anything to do with that. This is hosted at GoDaddy shared hosting. The database was created and I used an SQL script to create the tables initially and populate the data. My connection string works as I can pull data from the database, but I do have
a feeling it will be a web.config setting that will correct this.
I have this code, how will I write the code so I can check if a textbox i empty? This way want work. Now it goes in if cellPhone != null all the time.
[Code]....
I am dynamically creating a table that contains a textbox in each cell. The table is put in a placeholder control. Everything displays perfectly. The problem is when I go to retrieve the values entered in the cells. I have the code to generate the table in a separate method called CreateTable(). In order for my program to find a table in the placeholder when I go to save, I have to run CreateTable() in a postback event AND in the PageLoad event. If I call CreateTable() in only one of those places and I try to save, it says the placeholder is empty and, therefore, I cannot save the textbox contents. I've tried calling CreateTable() from InitLoad but that doesn't work because it needs to reference values from three static controls: 1 dropdown, 1 listbox, and 1 calendar control, which I don't believe have had their viewstate rendered yet.
