I would like to use a C# foreach loop to access a column in all records in one of two tables that can only be determined at runtime. I have used the foreach command with arrays, but I don't know how to use it with a table in an SQL database. I was using a query command and Reader inside of a do-while loop that fails after all records had been read.

View 10 RepliesI've an asp menu on my site. I need to dynamically populate this from my database depending on a choice made by the user.
Basically, when entering the site the User chooses a product category and this selection determines the options in my menu. I'm totally lost as to how to populate my menu each time the user changes their category - I've only ever hardcoded in the values to a this menu type so I've no idea how to programmatically populate it.
From what I can gather, it seems that its best to populate the menu via XML - if this is so could someone post a sample of what this XML structure (or let me know ehere I can view this)
This may or may not be possible but I'm trying my best to find out, I'm a complete novice when it comes to ASP.At the moment I have drafted a basic html page. This page contains a drop down list and several tables all hidden by javascript and then displayed based on the drop down selection (onchange event)I'm trying to convert this into an asp page so that I can dynamically populate the drop down from a table (this will be a list of names)and then based on the drop down selection (onchange does not necessarily have to be used, could maybe use a submit button) will populate a table below the input box with all the information for that name, in many cases this would be multiple rows.

The table has three columns, {Title(DropDownList), FName(TextBox), LName(TextBox)} and two rows.
I am getting the values for FName, LName without problem, but I am getting wrong value for Title, which is a DropDownList. It gives me for both Titles, the selected value of the second column.

I've got a drop down list that I want to populate with items from a SQL Server database, which I did successfully, but I can't figure out how to write an if statement that will clear the drop down list based on a selected index and repopulate it with data from another table. The drop down list is inside an update panel that auto posts back.
Basically I want to allow the user to choose an item, but rather than populate another drop down list control, i just want to repopulate the current one with new data.I'm guessing that if I want to get data from more than one table the code below isn't going to work for me. Could I get the data from all the tables at once and store each table data in its own variable until I need to use it? (Each table will have under 10 items, in 5 tables.)

Basically I want to populate a drop down list with time slots for a user to select. If the time slot is already recorded in the database table I want to skip that one so it doesn't display as a selection in the drop down list.

There is a ListBox containing some items...when user selects multiple items from the list box I want to generate a dynamic table with the number of columns same as that of the number items selected in the listbox. And for each selected item I want to show a seperate chart in the columns...Currently I want the same chart control for every selected item (i.e. a static hard coded chart that i will replace later by dynamic values)....I am using a method that draws a chart control using a sample dataset... I am calling it each time when a new column is created..Also the DrawChart method executes for the first column only and throws an index out of range exception! after the first execution...my code is not working...here

View 5 RepliesI have a dropDownlist in a Formview Edit and Insert Template that is Bound to a Field, It is for a credit card expiration date, so I want to programatically populate it so it will automatically show the next 8 years from this year. Works fine!
Except When I add it to the Formview, and click on edit it gives me an error basically saying my record does not match the list item data, but it should since it shows the year just fine. So I am figuring that it is not binding the ListItems to the dropdownlist.
I have tried every event I could try and I always get the same error. I have tried the ModeChanged, DataBound, DataBiding, PreRender, Load on both the Formview and the DropDownList, but no go. How do I do this?

This works fin on a DropDownList that is not in a FormView, so I know its not the Code. and the record I am updating is 2010, so the record is not out of range

I need to populate a listbox, however, the value on the second box needs to derive from the first one, such as when I click on North America, USA and Canada would show up. the tricky part is that I need to be able to select North America and Europe in the same time and 2nd list box needs to show USA, Canada, UK, Italy, German accordingly.

I'm designing my own custom control that contains a .NET dropdownlist. What I'm wondering is if it is possible to populate my dropdownlist with listitems placed in a placeholder? For example:

i've run into small problem, here's the thing: i've got a dropdown list (ddlist1) that i am populating from a database, that works fine. However, depending on the option selected here, i need to populate another dropdown list (ddlist2). for example, if on ddlist1 i select option 1, on ddlist 2 i should get a list of options related to option 1 from ddlist1. If i select option 2, on ddlist 2 i should get a list of options related to option 2 from ddlist 1. and so forth. this information with which ddlist needs to be filled, comed from another database. o how can i go about this? m not sure yet how to code the second ddlist.

I am currently working on a signup sheet for new students. For each new student, we want add their schedule; therefore, I have a drop down list that displays the teachers which update another drop down list that displays the selection of the class the teacher teaches. The problem is that a student may have one or more classes, depending if they are in lower school or in upper school. The question is, how do add another row to the table and make sure it does not disappear when I select a teacher. Using jQuery, I successfully add the row with two new drop down list, but as soon as I select any of the teacher, the update panel refreshes and the new row disappears...

I have been banging my head against this problem for a bit and I think I am stuck. I would like to pull data from a Database to populate a list of possible "clients" to select from on one side. Then using what has been clicked load the client specific data into a tab container on the opposite side. I plan on doing lazy tab loading so I am not sure if that matters. I am really stuck and any help or guidance anyone could give would be greatly appreciated! I understand the basics of data loading and of tab containers, but i am unsure of what to do. I am coding this in C#. View 3 RepliesI am going to add a computed column to a stored procedure that will combine the last and first names of all of the customers in my db. This will be used to populate a drop down list that will allow the user to select a customer so a new record can be entered for that customer.
I was planning on creating this computed column on the procedure that returns all of the customers and all of there information. My db is small so this shouldn't be a big deal, as far as overhead. This doesn't seem like the best approach if the app was using a much larger db. It would unnecessarily return a lot of extra data and make it slower.
I'm curios when a procedure that's dedicated to returning just the customer's first name, last name, and ID should be used, instead of one that returns everything. There are a number of variables that could make this hard to determine, such as number of rows and columns. I wanted to try to get an idea of a cut off point or rule of thumb on this, if possible.
