Basically I want to populate a drop down list with time slots for a user to select. If the time slot is already recorded in the database table I want to skip that one so it doesn't display as a selection in the drop down list.
So my drop down list looks like;

And then I have setup a datasource (even though I may get rid of it to bind in the code behind file)

This is my first post as a newbie to asp.net.
I am in the process of creating a "news system", you can add, edit and delete news. The news items can be entered into the SQL database and you select a category where you want the news item to go into.
What I want is when someone comes to the "Edit" screen, they have a drop down list and what that does is allows you to select a category for you to edit news items from, so rather than at present having the "Edit" page display all the news items, I want people to be able to choose a category that they can edit news items in.
So far my edit page has a datagrid with the following code:

I have a drop-down list that is wired up to a datasource from one table to retrieve a Vendor ID and Vendor Name. This ddl is outside a FormView that is wired up to a datasource containing Vendor contracts.
When I choose a Vendor from the ddl, I am able to populate a textbox outside of FormView with the Vendor ID from the ddl. However, what I need to do is populate a textbox within FormView with the Vendor ID. FormView is in Insert Mode by default since my page will be used for Adding Contracts only.
I have a datagrid that populates correctly and a drop down list.

Inside the datagrid sort command I want an IF statement. But the IF statement I have now doesn't recoginze whats inside the SQL table ( == "Images").

From my understanding this if (ddl_Upload.SelectedValue == .... Is only recognized if I would have listed -Select, Images etc as List Items for the drop down???
This may or may not be possible but I'm trying my best to find out, I'm a complete novice when it comes to ASP.At the moment I have drafted a basic html page. This page contains a drop down list and several tables all hidden by javascript and then displayed based on the drop down selection (onchange event)I'm trying to convert this into an asp page so that I can dynamically populate the drop down from a table (this will be a list of names)and then based on the drop down selection (onchange does not necessarily have to be used, could maybe use a submit button) will populate a table below the input box with all the information for that name, in many cases this would be multiple rows.

View 9 RepliesI have a gridview that is populating from a SQL DB and working fine. However, based upon certain data I find in fields in the SQL table, I want to place a 'n' or a 'y' in extra columns in the gridview that I am assuming need to be templatefields. My thought was I could maybe add 8 template columns and then I could put a 'y' in the appropriate column based upon the data I find the table. For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to do this. I want to do this at rowdatabound time ( i think) but I just cannot find out how to, in my code, put that 'y' in the columns. Is this the right way to do this or do I need to do it another way? How do I get that 'y' in the proper column?
View 3 RepliesI would like to alter the query that is run, depending on the selection made by the user in a drop down list on the same page. Would this best be done using a partial page update (AJAX)? Ideally it would be great to have the textbox result change quickly once the drop-down list value has changed, without a full page postback. I would like to change the SQL query to a completely different query if the user selects an option different to the default (page_load value) in the drop-down list. I would then like the newly retrieved result to be displayed in the textbox as before.

View 1 RepliesI am going to add a computed column to a stored procedure that will combine the last and first names of all of the customers in my db. This will be used to populate a drop down list that will allow the user to select a customer so a new record can be entered for that customer.
I was planning on creating this computed column on the procedure that returns all of the customers and all of there information. My db is small so this shouldn't be a big deal, as far as overhead. This doesn't seem like the best approach if the app was using a much larger db. It would unnecessarily return a lot of extra data and make it slower.
I'm curios when a procedure that's dedicated to returning just the customer's first name, last name, and ID should be used, instead of one that returns everything. There are a number of variables that could make this hard to determine, such as number of rows and columns. I wanted to try to get an idea of a cut off point or rule of thumb on this, if possible.
On a page load, how do I check to see if data in a table has changed? And if any data has changed, populate Gridview1?

This holds data on Female and Male personal characteristics.On my aspx, I have a formview in edit mode which is binded to an object data source with a GetDataByUserId Select methodwhich retrieves data from the "Profiles" Table via a DAL.The "Profiles" table has some columns which relates to females only and some just males and some are generic to both.See example below

When the User logs in , they go to an update Page which has the Formview in Edit Item Mode and contains drop down Lists whichare binded to the Users Selected Value. I have textboxes of customer Address data. bound to Invoice table. Displayed on a Page.
I want to be able to show same data in detailsview. bound to Delivery table
using the following criteria:
1. check delivery table for address data, where email = usermembership Email address and populate Detailview. If no data present, copy Customer Invoice Address data across IF present, to Delivery Detailsview.
2. Insert record IF no Address found/Update IF record amended in Delivery detailsview(Only applicable to Delivery Detailsview)
I would prefare this to be accomplished in a Button_Click event instead of using Command buttons in bottom row of Detailsview.
This is because i am using a Multiview page that processes Customer Address data.
I want to know how we can create a table (or a layout consisting of div's) and poulate it with data from the database. We do this generally using data controls like gridview, datalist etc. But i am restricted by these controls like there is no inbuilt paging with datalist and there is no repeat column in gridview. I just want complete control over the layout as well as the data that goes into it.
I dont know how to do this. Is there anyway of doing it without using the data controls.
I've got a drop down list that I want to populate with items from a SQL Server database, which I did successfully, but I can't figure out how to write an if statement that will clear the drop down list based on a selected index and repopulate it with data from another table. The drop down list is inside an update panel that auto posts back.
Basically I want to allow the user to choose an item, but rather than populate another drop down list control, i just want to repopulate the current one with new data.I'm guessing that if I want to get data from more than one table the code below isn't going to work for me. Could I get the data from all the tables at once and store each table data in its own variable until I need to use it? (Each table will have under 10 items, in 5 tables.)

I have a gridview with a drop down list. When I do the update I try to get the value from the drop down list, but I get an error saying that the drop down list control 'ddlType' can't be found.

In this code you can see the select statement that the customers are selected for display to the user. Order by is at least being used to disply in name order. but this example here is one of several similar dropdowns. I would like that if they picked one customer then the next view show should be the same customer

I've built my own CMS using vb. It displays the pagetitle, summary and body from a database, depending upon what parameters are passed in the url.
Some pages require a drop down list where users can select a document from a list.
Is there a way to add this to the page?
