Web Forms :: Invoking A HTTP 202 Error Message Via Webservice?
Sep 22, 2010
I am new to ASP.NET but what i am trying to do is create a webservice (in C#) with a method that basically returns the IIS HTTP 202 Error Code (ACCEPTED) page.Is there any method that would automatically return this? Or would i need to write some sort of code that would cause the error message 202 to display?

I have a webservice (ASMX) which I have tested locally using built-in VS web server. It works fine in the Dev environment, and there was no configuration of anything in IIS for this kind of webservice to work.
Today when I deployed my site on the live server, I got a 500 error when the webservice is being called. The website doesn't work, and unfortunately the client did not test this on staging (same server)
Here's the sample call to my service.
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: 'http://www.mydomain.com/services/someservice.asmx/MyMethod',
data: "someid=564",
dataType: "xml",
success: function(msg){
}
In Firebug, http://www.mydomain.com/services/someservice.asmx/MyMethod returns error 500 internal server.
I called the service using jQuery AJAX, the live server is Windows Server 2008 Standard.

I hace created a webservice, that is on one server and then I created a web application on another server to consume that webservice. My web application uses threading. In my web application, I call the webservice and it returns me the response. Then my thread sleeps for 20 minutes and then it again calls webservice, but when i call the webservice second time , it fails. Here is the error and stack trace:-

On an ASP.NET Web Application I have an upload file functionality. I'm restricting the file size up to 10 MB by configuring the inside web.config the maxAllowedContentLength attribute. (I'm using IIs 7.0 BTW).
It get the desired HTTP Error when I access the application from the local machine:
HTTP Error 404.13 - Not Found The request filtering module is configured to deny a request that exceeds the request content length.
When I access the application from another machine I get
The connection was reset The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
How can I get a more descriptive error when my application is accessed remotely?

Here's my problem: I have an asp.net app that invokes a java/axis based webservice through a wsdl file provided by my customer. But, as i had no access to this webservice at the dev time, i've created a fake .net based webservice, with the same methods, returning some valid data, so i'd be able to test the integration interface. The problem is, when i add the service reference on my app, pointing to my fake webservice (.net), it's class has a certain name, and when i point it to my customer's wsdl file, it's class has a different name. Generated class name when i add the service reference by:
- .NET fake webservice = "TransferenciaEndpointSoapClient"
- wsdl file of the java/axis webservice = "TransferenciaEndpointClient"
I want the class i've created in my fake webservice to keep the same name of the wsdl, when i add the service reference on my app. I tried to add a "web reference" instead of a "service reference", but it did not work. I also tried to change the name of the class on the "Reference.cs" file, it works on my environment, but it doesn't when i put the generated bin on my customer's environment. I'd like to solve this without having to create a java/axis based fake webservice.

I used to be able to view the pages of my ASP.NET 3.5 website locally via the 'View in Browser' facility. However, this no longer works (for any page). All I get is a 'HTTP 404 Not Found' error message.
Where might I have screwed things up?

I have a web service hosted on a web server, I invoke the web service using jquery ajax.
The service returns results successfully when invoked locally from the server, but it fails when invoked from a remote client machine (not in the same domain).
I see the request fail in the firebug returning error (401 UnAuthorized) and the response has the following error (Request format is unrecognized for URL unexpectedly ending in '/List').

using vb.net/asp.net 2005
when a user enters a bad email I am doing a check on this and throwing an exception message as follows, this works fine on the test site but for some reason the same code on the live site gives a "internal server error" (http code 500). The code below:
[Code]....
not certain why this is happening, I assume that it's some server or config difference between the test and live sites. has anyone seen this before? For a quick fix i'm registering javascript alert and showing the same text so it works but I would like to figure out why the code above is not working.

I'm trying to enable a webservice to accept HTTPGet. I've done this in the past, but I have a feeling BlogEngine.NET may be interfering somehow. I've added these sections to web.config:
<system.web>
<webServices>
<protocols>
<add name="HttpGet" />
<add name="HttpPost" />
</protocols>
</webServices>
And my method has this signature:
[ScriptMethod(UseHttpGet = true)]
[WebMethod]
public void GetCurrent(string setupType)
Yet when I call the service, I just get the the WSDL description page. I'm trying to binary write a file to track numbers of downloads, so I have a rewrite rule to redirect what looks like a .zip file to my download service. The rewriting works fine as I see the WSDL file, but the method isn't invoked.

By default in login template, in case user key in the wrong user name or password, the literal message will show the default error message, "Your login attempt unsuccessful..."What i trying to do is, I have a function in my system to disapprove a member, after the member is disapproved, he/she will not allow to login anymore. When the user trying to login, the default literal msg will show out. Is there any way i can do it more specifically like if the user enter the wrong password only, the literal msg show: "Wrong password entered" insteaed of the default msg?
Same goes to the change password control, for any error msg it just show the long msg but does not tell user whats wrong with the entered valueim trying to do something like if the user enter the wrong password, the literal msg show the one i wan to show.

I have a WCF client test harness where I'm using a "client message inspector" endpoint behavior to "pick off" raw requests and response messages going to and from a service and save them for later display in the UI.
This works great, except for the use case where invalid credentials are passed (Basic Authentication). The server returns an HTTP 401 along with a SOAP fault in the body containing details of what happened. I have no control over the service, so this behavior cannot be changed.
Because the HTTP 401 is returned as a WebException, my message inspector never fires and I can't get to the raw response. This exception eventually gets to the UI in the form a MessageSecurityException.
Is there any way to suppress this so the message inspector's AfterReceiveReply still fires? or is there somewhere else I can access the entire raw response?
