The following code represents an EditItemTemplate in my ListView. My problem is that when I click the Update button, everything updates but then the display doesn't go to the ItemTemplate. According to Microsoft: "By default, theListView control returns to read-only mode after an update operation."

I have a gridview which uses an EditItemTemplate and an ItemTemplate for an 'Effect' column. The ItemTemplate simply displays the bound data using a label control. The EditItemTemplate defines a databound DropDownlist control which contains all the possible selections.
The gridview also contains a bound 'State' column which gives the State of each row. I have already been able to access this field in the gridview_RowDataBound event, so far using the value to decide whether to re-colour a row or not. What I would like to do is use this value to determine whether to use the ItemTemplate or the EditItemTemplate for each row.
Effectively I want to be able to decide whether to display just the data (For an Approved row) or display the DropDownList and allow the user to make updates (For an In Work row). I have searched for information on this issue online but have not found a lot, so I presume that my approach is not possible.

View 3 RepliesI have a page with a ListView and when users need to edit an item, it works and updates just fine in edit mode. However, one thing that I don't want is every item from ItemTemplate to display in edit mode, which it's doing right now. Is there a way to limit the EditItemTemplate to only one item--that for which the edit button was clicked? I have the pager activated in LayoutTemplate so I have a suspicion that the pager may have to be inactivated by code-behind when edit mode is entered.

I have a dropdown list within a listview 'EditItemTemplate' and 'InsertItemTemplate" which I am trying to populate from the database with code behind with ItetmDataBound event. Problem is I am getting NullException when I use this code which works fine for ItemTemplate.

I have listview where every item has a textbox and next to it a button if you want to update the item. I want that every textbox default button(pressing enter) is the one right next to it. So i have a panel(pnlInput) surrounding the textbox(txtQuantity) and the button (btnCart). If i do nothing in code behind the default button for every textbox is the button of the item that was first rendered.
But then i tried in codebehind

I have an update function in my data layer which is defined as:
public int UpdateRBTable(parameters ...) This calls a SQL Server Stored Procedure to perform an update function on the database.
The process does its job for updating the table. However, the stored procedure has a return value (which indicates how many rows were updated), but this return value is not returned to the application. The application always shows that a zero was returned from the stored procedure.

I put OnSelectedIndexChanged="DropDownList1_SelectedIndexChanged" in mark up, with code behind, but only to get Compiler Error Message: BC30456: 'DropDownList1_SelectedIndexChanged' is not a member of 'ASP.webform1_aspx'. How do I make it a member? When I do not put OnSelectedIndexChanged="DropDownList1_SelectedIndexChanged" in mark up, BC30456 does not pop up, but nothing happens when dropdownlist selected item is changed.
