C# - Is It Safe To Use Server.Transfer() To Transfer A Request To A Static Image (.jpg - .png)?

Feb 8, 2011

I have a class which implements IHttpHandler that is designed to handle image resize requests. It handles Urls like so [URL] Currently the handler looks for myimg.jpg on disk, cuts a 100x100 thumbnail (if it isn't already present) and redirects the client to the thumbnail like so Response.RedirectPermanent("/some/virtualPath/to/thumbnail.jpg");

This has been working great, but I would like to avoid forcing the client to issue a second HTTP request. Is it safe to do the following? Server.Transfer("/some/virtualPath/to/thumbnail.jpg") All the MSDN documentation talks about using Server.Transfer() to redirect to an aspx page, so I'm not sure if this is the right thing to do or not.

Web Forms :: File Upload Failing On One Server?

May 7, 2010

I have a web form that allows the user to upload a file to the web server, that file is then read into a database. This process works on my local pc, my dev box and one of my qa servers. I moved the code to a new QA web server and it doesn't work on that server, even though the web site is setup the same on all 3 machines. On the new server it was working at one time and then today it stopped.What could be causing me to get {access denied to folder c:websitefilesuploads} (which is the file I'm uploading to and then deleting and works on my local dev and one of my qa boxes

I basically want to transfer a file from the client to the file storage server without actual login to the server so that the client cannot access the storage location on the server directly. Web Forms :: How To Hide A Page Url Without Using Server.transfer

Dec 23, 2010

Sometimes when transferring to a different page, I have to use response.redirect instead of server.transfer, and when I do, the name of the page always shows up in the url such as [URL]

I use server.transfer when I can, but unfortunately I haven't found a way to use it unless the transferred page refers back to the parent when leaving.

How can I mask what page is being viewed after doing a response.redirect to another page.

Javascript - Failing To Catch Server Error In Sharepoint?

Nov 4, 2010

I have an asp.net control that contains a grid view sitting on top of an Ajax update panel. The control has been added to a sharepoint page. When a button is clicked, some server code is called to store the contents of the grid. If the server code throws an error, I want to spit out a javascript alert displaying the error message, but for some reason the error that bubbles up from the server is the generic 500 server error, which doesn't contain any details of the original error.
