Javascript - Failing To Catch Server Error In Sharepoint?

I have an asp.net control that contains a grid view sitting on top of an Ajax update panel. The control has been added to a sharepoint page. When a button is clicked, some server code is called to store the contents of the grid. If the server code throws an error, I want to spit out a javascript alert displaying the error message, but for some reason the error that bubbles up from the server is the generic 500 server error, which doesn't contain any details of the original error.

Here is the code copied from [URL] In asp.net code behind, I use try-catch try to catch any error but never catch it. In SQL database, if I rename Employees to Employeesx or change column DepartmentID to DepartmentIDx, record will not be deleted (it is right) without any error (it is wrong, suppose catch an error).

Im using Google Analytics Dashboard Control which are available at [URL] Issue is its working fine when im connected to internet but if im using it on a machine that doesnt have internet access then it shows Server Error in '/' Application. The remote name could not be resolved: '[URL]' I want to catch this exception and shows a friendly message to user. I am creating one new silverlight webpart from VS Sharepoint 2010. If i am creating the silverlight application its asking for the sharepoint local site url, i gave the valid url but its showing the ["could not contact sharepoint server for list of document libraries. check your sharepoint URl"].
how to resolve this error.

I'm developing an ASP.NET user control in VS2008 that writes to a SQL Server 2005 database. I've published the control to a SharePoint 2007 MOSS page using the SmartPart addon. The control consists of a few text fields and a submit button that writes the contents of the text fields to the database. When I test the control in the Visual Studio debugger, it works fine. When I try to submit data from the SharePoint page, I get the error shown at the end of this post. Last time I saw this, it was a database permissions error, but I've granted my site's default application pool read/write access to my database. Does anyone have any idea what else the problem might be? Also, how can I double-check the credentials that the SharePoint page is using to access the database, since I still suspect that this is a permissions issue?

I have been using the RemotePost Class( as per http://www.jigar.net/articles/viewhtmlcontent78.aspx) to post a form to a pay provider, for about 3 months successfully, I made some changes external from the call to this class that sent an email when user presses the button to notify us that the user has selected to go through to the pay provider (similar to PayPal). and suddenly got an exception error MSCROLIB, Thread was being aborted. I have since removed the code and I still get the error it happens when I call

I tried the suggestion on KB article [URL]/ but the control is not past to the Pay Provider I also took the actual response that is written and posted it to a new html file added a submit button and it works. So I am no stuck. The Pay provider claims they have changed nothing, and has tried to help but says they are receiving no input from either our dev site or the live site.I also tried to step into the call but it just throughs the exception

In the Script documents that asp.net automatically generates how can I surround the whole generated scripts with try/catch statement to avoid 'Microsoft JScript Compilation error'
My issue is: i got a DevExpress control (ASPxGridView) that added and set-up in run time, since i activated the grouping functionality in the grid I still get JS error says ';' expected whenever i use (click) on one of grouping/sorting abilities, I activated script Debugging for IE, in the JS code turns out that there is no missing ';' and once i click ignore for the error msg that VS generates every thing works fine, and surly end-user can't see this msg so i figured out if i try/catch the script that may help avoid this error.

I have an ASP.NET Web Site hosted in the _layouts folder of a SP2010 site. One of the pages contains a server-side form and works fine until I try to set its master page to a Sharepoint master page (specifically a modified v4.master) to achieve a consistent look & feel. I've placed my original page content within <asp:content> tags but it now throws an "A page can have only one server-side Form tag" error. I know that ASP.NET pages can only contain a single server-side form but what walkarounds can I use to stop Sharepoint from throwing this error?

My jQuery ajax call is failing with an undefined error. My js code looks like this:

My ajax source is a generic ASP.NET handler:

Now, if I return an empty object ("{ }") in my handler, the call will succeed. But when I return any other JSON object, the call fails.
The dataFilter handler shows that I am receiving a correct object. Firebug shows the response as expected, and the JSON tab shows that the object is parsed correctly.
So what could be the cause?
[Edit] I should have actually written "when I return any invalid JSON object, the call fails"! :D

i want to display the errors in a seprate page so in catch block i redirected the execption to that page, in all the pages it's working fine, but if get any error in my db retuning datas means, im' getting redirect loop in browers itself not redirecting to the page i needed. how to fix this??

In MOSS 2007, we could update the tag's callstack attribute to true and then customerrors mode to "Off" to see the actual error behind the 'An unexpected error has occurred' message. Does it apply on SharePoint 2010 as well ? I tried it but I get the following error:

Yesterday I upgraded to MVC 2 RC. I have several jquery ajax requests that worked fine prior to the upgrade. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.
I know the MVC team made changes to the framework to protect against Json Hijacking so that GET requests are not allowed (by default) and I have changed my jquery ajax code to use 'type: "POST",' and then adorned the Action Method with the POST verb.
Again, the odd thing about this is that it works sometimes and other times it doesn't. When it fails, there are no error details. The error code is 12030 or 12031.

Since everyone yells at me that MessageBox doesn't work when the project is uploaded to the server, I need to migrate to javascript alert box. As I was changing my MessageBoxes, I tested and found that they weren't being produced. I'm not sure if it matters, but they are in a try/catch block, which is shown here:[Code]....
This all worked before when I had MessageBox - it showed, then the page redirected when I clicked Ok.
I either don't understand how try/catch works, the javascript isn't adding, or Response.Redirect is executed before I can see the alert box and click Ok on it.
(just as a note, everything works fine, but the alert box doesn't show)........if I add the (javascript) code before the try block, the alert box comes up, so it's not something wrong with the writing of the javascript or executing it at least (I think).

i worked on a sample application integrating OpenID into ASP.NET Web Forms. It works fine when hosted locally on my machine. However, when I uploaded the application to a live server, it started giving "Login Failed".

I have a web form that allows the user to upload a file to the web server, that file is then read into a database. This process works on my local pc, my dev box and one of my qa servers. I moved the code to a new QA web server and it doesn't work on that server, even though the web site is setup the same on all 3 machines. I am trying to set up an insert command in vb for sql server (not mysql). the following works fine as long as I manually enter a new ASSalesId and don't have this field auto increment. this field is set up a a primary key. I would like to just use auto increment on this field. but every time I set the field to auto increment the insert fails. if I just remove the reference to this field from the statement the insert fails.
