I'm trying to use a field validator to make sure one of my list boxes has a selection before the user is able to proceed to the next page. i'm having is that if the validation message is triggered, all of the buttons on my page loose functionality.Meaning, if I purposely trigger the validation control, I can't get rid of the error message and none of my buttons do anything when clicke after this.

Is there something that I need to add to the code behind of the page or the Java Script that I'm using?
I have a web forms where i have 10 required field validators for 10 textboxes. Validation group for these required field validator needs to be determined when the page loads. I tried to change the validator in the .cs file but failed.
rfvBT.ValidationGroup = "registration";
i am working on web-form for which I have set the validation summary showmessagebox = "true".
I have two required field validators, which trigger on a checkbox's OnCheckedChanged event....now my problem is, when I hit submit, the page does not submit if I do not enter any values in the text boxes..which is correct behavior but it does not point out to the error or does not display the message box.
i have to scroll up to see what is wrong with he page and then try to enter the values...I do not understand why my message box does not show up or at least why my setfocusonerror which is set to true does
not show me the text boxes...

I've been trying to get a custom validator component working that ensures at least one checkbox from a checkboxlist has been checked. I've been used some code I found on dotnetjunkies.com but the client-side validation didn't work. I've been attempting to modify it to get the client-side javascript validation to work with no luck. Basically, I compile the below code into a DLL and add it to my bin folder.

n my Asp.net / C# page I have 1 drop down and 1 date field. Dropdown contains 2 items "Item1", "Item2" and "Item3" I want to implement following logicBy Default datefield will not visible Once user select "Item2" thne this field will be visibile and this field should be required and check for entered date should not be less than toays date. If select "Item1" or "Item3" thne this field should not be visible and there should be no validation on date field.
View 3 RepliesWith respect to my previous questionListview Checkbox checked using jquery . The code works fine and it checks for any checkbox checked in listview and returns a alert msg but now it does not check for any required field validators in the page. I the checkbox is checked it fires button click event. I need to check for validators also and after that only it must check for checkbox validation. The link for previous question is [URL] .....
I need to merge the code for required field validation check with checkbox check.
I have Dropdownlist whose value field and text field are bind at runtime. it has --select-- as first item with a value of '0' and the rest of the values are bind at runtime.
I have given validaton group for both the control and the validator as "g1" and Intialvalue=0
But still the page is posting back even if I select '--select--' option.

I'm trying to create a custom control that has a dropdown list and a required field validator in it.I've got as a far as being able to set the error message if the control fails to validate, but I can't actually get it to validate, not can I figure out how to call a .Validate method server side. This is driving me nuts!
To create my control, I followed the article here I ran the text box example through, and I can get that to validate without any problems, so I then went through and created a new set of class files relating to a drop down list.Anyone got any thoughts, or hints as to what might be wrong, or where I should start looking?
I have an edit template on gridview which opens a text box and button with a custom validator .
On button press I have to validate the text in edit item template with a text field in gridview row template.
I am having a hard time fetching the data of the edit template textbox. Even though both custom validator and textbox are in same edit item template but intellisense is not picking it up.
Also the custom validator server_validate event is using "object source" instead of "object sender"
How do I fetch the edit item template text for comparison
I am doing this as
protected void CustomValidator1_ServerValidate(object source, ServerValidateEventArgs args)
{
GridViewRow gvrow = (GridViewRow)(source as Control).Parent.Parent;
int index = gvrow.RowIndex+1;
// TextBox txttmp=(TextBox)
Label lbl = (Label)gvComp.Rows[index].FindControl("lblSecShare");
decimal CSh = Convert.ToDecimal(lbl.Text);
}

When I run the page, there is no validation and no error message. Please can you point out where I am going wrong, I'm suspicious it is at Page.Master.FindControl("form1").Controls.I have previously done such validation by looping through controls via form1.controls but this is unavailable as the page uses a form passed down via the master page.
I'm trying to user ValidatorCalloutExtender on my login page but I'm having some trouble with it. I have two TextBoxes, two RequiredFieldValidators and two ValidatorCalloutExtenders. Here's my page's code:

So, my problem is quite simple, I guess. When the user press "ButtonLogin", the first ValidatorCallout is displayed requesting that the user enter his username. The validation text for the password field isn't displayed. If I enter the username and then try to post the form again, the validation text for the password isn't displayed at all. The text is displayed only after I click on TextBoxPassword. Is there any way to solve this? If I wasn't using ValidatorCalloutExtender, text for both validators would be displayed. So, I'm guessing that internally both validators actually trigger. The second isn't displayed because the first one is already been displayed. But even after entering text on the first textbox, the text doesn't come up. I believe it's still thinking that the first validator is been displayed.
how to show plain text in password field and then make it regular password field on focus
View 3 RepliesWhen it comes to field validation, when I use a Compare Validator to make sure a date is a date or a numeric field has a number, I must also use a Required Field Validator to make sure there is something actually enetered. In other words, the Compare Validator allows a blank value even though a blank is not a date or number or whatever.
Is using both a Required Field Validator and a Compare Validator the way to do this or is there some way to make the Compare Validator also require input of some kind?
I have some code where I need two separate required field validators for one control, both in separate validation groups which are then validated by two separate buttons.This approach works well when the buttons are clicked but both validators show if I enter a value in the textbox and then remove it.
Is there a way to turn this"lost focus" validation off? I only need it to validate when the buttons are clicked.
EDIT,Unfortunately, if I set EnableClientScript=false then I dont have any client notifications. What I want is for the dynamic error message to show (effectivly in the OnClientClick event of the button) but not the "lost focus" of the textbox.Is there some way I can disable or "unhook" the lostfocus client event?
EDIT,A combination dDejan's answer and womp's answeer here sorted the problem perfectly.
My final code looks like this (for anyone else with a similar situation)...

$(document).ready(function() { [code]....
So, now there is no validation until a user clicks either the "Get Email Confirmation Code" button or the "Register" button. If they click the "Get Email Confirmation Code" button all of the controls validate apart from the textbox where the user is to input the email validation code and we only see one validator message.
If they click the "Register" Button then all of the controls validate and we only see one validation message.If either button is pressed, the user goes back, adds and then removes some text then we only see one validator. Before this change you used to see both messages saying the same thing.
I created my custom validator in one project, something like that:

he composite control in another project. I added a reference of the custom validator project to the composite control project. I have a textbox in a composite control and I would like to validate this textbox by the composite control I created. But how can I do that? How can I create the custom validator instance that is linked to the custom validator I created?

View 2 RepliesI have a aspx page with a ascx control inside an ascx control and the required field validator is not hit on the action of the page.
The issue is with the 2nd nested ascx control. The field validators in the first ascx control validate correctly, but with the ascx control inside the ascx control there are issues.
The nested ascx control is a repeater control and this may be the reason, but I am unsure.
I'm not exactly sure what question to ask, but I'll list a few below.
How do I attach the field validators up a level to the 1st ascx control?
Is it possible to put required fields into a nested ascx control?
I have written a javascript code for handling the password functionality. The scenario is: when user wants to change the old password, he cannot fill the same old password again. I have written the code. But even the simple alert of blank textbox is not working. See the code for reference:
Javascript code:-
<script type="text/javascript">
function ltrim(str) {
var reg
reg = /^s+/g
return str.replace(reg, "")
}
function rtrim(str) {
[Code] .....
aspx code:-
<tr>
<td class="auto-style1">Old Password</td>
<td class="auto-style2">
<asp:TextBox ID="txtOldPassword" runat="server" TextMode="Password" class="txtcareer"></asp:TextBox>
<asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="reqtxtOldPassword" ControlToValidate="txtOldPassword" runat="server" ErrorMessage="*"></asp:RequiredFieldValidator>
[Code] ...
Why this is not working...
do you have validation using HTML5 and also I am using with Master Page.
View 1 RepliesI have a form that is used to add and edit data. Based on a dropdown selection, the form is either prepopulated or left blank so you can add new data.
I have a password field that is set to TextMode="Password" and works fine when adding new data, it displays ***** as you type..
Now if you select from the dropdown and there is already a record on file, it populates the form to allow you to edit the information.. Now i DONT want to display the password in plain text, but i want to populate the field so if they make any changes all field data is kept and table is updated with all of it.
I already debugged the page and my variable is being set with the password, but the textbox doesnt even show the ***** for the password value.
I was referring muddasar's one of the article for the validation. Below is my code and i am trying to validate the file upload selected file format on the submit button. I have 4 upload control and fu1 is mandatory field and others are not mandatory fields. Though i need to validate all the four uploads if the files have been selected. My full sample code is below for easy testing,
<asp:FileUpload runat="server" ID="fu1" />
<asp:Label ID="lblMessage1" runat="server"></asp:Label>
<asp:FileUpload runat="server" ID="fu2" />
<asp:Label ID="lblMessage2" runat="server"></asp:Label>
[code]...
I am doing slight mistake on the return to the main function. if i test indvidual function it works fine. whereas if i include the 4 functions in one function with the return statement, it's not validating. goes to to the server.
I have a validator callout extender that works, it shows the callout box. But, it does a postback. It didn't do a post back the first time I clicked the button but it did for subsequent times. I read on the AJAX site that a custom validator must be used with this for it to work. I'm currently using this with a required field and regular expression validator. It works, the callout appears, but it doesn't work every time with out the post back.I posted this to see if there is a way to get this to work with a required field and regular expression validator, with out using a custom validator. I'm using the newest release of the toolkit, so I thought the documentation may be old, since the callout is appearing.
