I have settings.aspx page. for this page, i have two functions Page_Load and OnSubmit. In Page_Load function, iam retrieving the servername from session and updating in textbox. when i enter some other server name in the textbox, and click on sumbit, it is retrieving the old one.

So I used the insert template field option on the detailsview control and place a textbox within the InsertItem template but I could not get it to work. The error "Could not find control 'txtPassword' in ControlParameter 'Password'.

I have a gridview control, I have 3 BoundField columns(Question, Answer, row_id) and 1 TemplateField column(Translate) in which i have textbox. I have more than 50 records and i have enabled paging. I have a button control after gridview. On Clicking the button control i need to extract the text from all the textbox fields and from row_id column.
How to retrieve taxt from all textboxes on buttonclick event
i need to get the value of some textboxes in an aspx file. usually if these are defined in the front page they are easily accessible in the code behind.
however the form (textboxes) are defined within a separate web control (ascx file) that in turn is registered within another web control, that is registered in the aspx page in which i am trying to access them.
my question is how i get at these values. i presume i need to do some sort of find for each control and the relevant textboxes i need?

I'm adding <ASP:TextBox>'s to a page in code.I'm going to set their ID and stuff like that.I'm wanting to retrieve the text of those textboxes on a button press.Now I know I can't simply do "Me.MyTBName1.Text". I guess I could loop through the controls and compare IDs. I'd rather be able to get the textbox's text directly somehow though.I could use Javascript to get the value, but I don't think I can use it server-side at that point.

I'm then populating a gridview with the data from the dataset.
Before each row of data is displayed on the website, I need to check and make sure the user has proper permissions to view that data.
Can this be done with a gridview(or any other .NET data control)?
Or would I need to loop through the data manually, and then write each row out manually?

I have a search option which a person can use a multi select listbox. I have it coded so it would loop through to see if its selected or not. I also have a stored procedure where the sql statement is coded for the select statement. For some reason, its not populating my gridview. Where am I doing wrong? I have a page with a series of Gridviews to display summarised information. There a three Gridviews which need to be selected as criteria and then a Go Button is clicked to retrieve the info.
At the moment the information is retreived as the dropdowns are selected. Can this be stopped until the user clicks GO?
I am somewhat new at C# so forgive me if I have something listed wrong. This is what I got:
I am working on a school project designing a car dealership website. I have an inventory list that allows you to edit any car in the inventory. When you click on the edit button it takes you to the edit page and populates the controls with selections from the database. I have an options table that stores the VehicleID and Option ID. When the page loads it fills all the DropDownLists for the vehicle info with the data and selects the correct item according to the database selection but the CheckBoxList does not select the items that are on the Options table. I checked the query in SSMS and it returns the correct data. I have stepped through the method and it works till the "(currentCheckBox != null) if statement. It doesn't throw any errors but it also doesn't select items when the page renders.
I thought it might have been something with the page life cycle since databound controls don't render until the end but the DropDown's I have fill and selects the correct item according to the database.
I've created a data bound gridview to a SQL database. I am retrieving the data with a simple select for a specific date, and then populating my gridview. The one caveat is that I have added a second header row to my gridview, and then I am hiding parts of another row that was retrieved to only populate the main header row. I believe that this is causing my issue. However, when I step through the code it appears that my ids are proper (the first row has an id of 0, etc....). However, when I check the checkbox in row 4, the actual data from row 3 is being pulled out of the gridview.

I'm in the process of developing a survey system. The tables / fields that are related to my question are:

My issues with this way were:
1) The Data Adaptors receive ALL the records from their correspondent tables. Not a good practice, I believe.
2) If, at some point, the survey had no categories, questions or choices under its child records, an error occurs when the page tries to build the Data Relation. With the work flow I had in mind for the system, this is bound to happen becuase all the Data entry pages (Add Category, Add Question, Add Choice) will be displaying the newly-created survey in a similar fashion (at which point, the survey will have no child records and so an error would occur)

If I have the ListView on a mode which only displays data (no editing or inserting), how do I reference data in a list view item using the code behind?
In other controls I have used e.Items and e.Values, but I can't seem to work out how to do it in the listview.

I want to show a list of all the events between two dates i.e. list of events during a perticular time span. So for that I am making the user select two dates and then after he clicks the "SHOW EVENTS" button,I am trying to display the list of all the events present during that time span.

I have a photo website with a login page. (It is an exercise out of a book: Scott Mitchell's "ASP.Net in 24 hours".) After a user logs in he can go to another page and manage photo categories. That page works. I have two users that have photo categories setup in the database.
There is also a page where a user can add photo images. This is the page that is giving me problems. It has a name and description field. (The functionality for uploading a photo is next in the book. It is not on the page yet.) The page also has a dropdown list that is supposed to be populated by the category names of the logged in user. This is the control that is giving me problems. It is not being populated by the logged in user's Category names.
The two database tables used are pretty simple:

There are two SQLDataSources on the page:
One is for inserting new photos. The other retrieves the Categories of the current user. The page has a DetailsView with the Photo's Title and Description. There is also a dropdown list with the Category names. It is aa InsertItem Template in DetailsView.
When the page opens, the current UserID is retrieved and put into a Hidden Field. It is then used to retrieve the Category Names by the second SQLDataSource. I have gone through the book's steps a few times now. The dropdown list is not being populated. I am not getting any errors.
How can I track down why the dropdown list is not being populated?
Both of my users have Category values set up in the database. So, the dropdown list has values that should be appearing.

I have a page which will retrieve data base on drop down lists and place the data onto a gridview. When the data was entered, each field was entered with multi-selected and delmited by a comma. In the database, some fields will have a string with multi information delmited by the comma, for example, Chicago, Atlanta, NYC will be recorded and place in the field in the database. I'm trying to search now but with a dropdown list with Chicago, Atlanta, and NYC being an individual record. If the person selects NYC, all of the records from NYC will appear even though Chicago and Atlanta are part of the string.

I heve been sent some code as an example (BELOW in C#) with a login password, to request data from a remote site.
For example: A customer is givn a code from a remote site that contains his data. the customer then arrives at my site enterst the code on my sites form the script access the data from the remote site.
e.g. A customer enter my site > enters code> collects data from remote server> displays on my site> proceeds to checkout on my site.
I have no idea how to do this from the code example.

I created a DataBound event for the detailsview, and it doesnt recognize e.row. I've looked at some reference materials which tell me to use DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "TotalPayment") but then it doesnt recognize container.
