I'm in the process of developing a survey system. The tables / fields that are related to my question are:

My issues with this way were:
1) The Data Adaptors receive ALL the records from their correspondent tables. Not a good practice, I believe.
2) If, at some point, the survey had no categories, questions or choices under its child records, an error occurs when the page tries to build the Data Relation. With the work flow I had in mind for the system, this is bound to happen becuase all the Data entry pages (Add Category, Add Question, Add Choice) will be displaying the newly-created survey in a similar fashion (at which point, the survey will have no child records and so an error would occur)

I have a gridview that displays in the following manner. What I am trying to accomplish to is if you see the columns with the heading(s) Name, LegName, MedicalConditions, DateofBirth and id displays as two rows, as it normally would, but what I would like to do is to have all that data display in ONE Row because it all belongs to one registration. If you look at the two images, image one is how the data comes out of the DB normally. Image two is how I would like to be. keep in mind that this is a small example and I actually have more fields than just this, so I am looking for something extensible. Anyone have any thoughts on how I could modify the gridview to display my data like this?

Having trouble with a web page and connecting to SQL DB. Basically I have a form view table connected up to a SQLDataSourceControl and what I want displayed in the form is only data that has been assigned to the user that is logged on now. I have a "ViewAll" page, which lists EVERY field, regardless of who it is assigned to, but the "MyTasks" page should only retrieve the data of the current user.
I have two tables in my DB, the "Users" table, with user data (including an ID number) - this is used again in the "Tasks" table as a foreign key called "AssignTo". Therefore if user Joe Bloggs with ID number 5 logs on, whenever someone assigns a task to him, they will select number 5 in the "Task" table, as this relates to his User ID.

i am currently facing some problem retrieving image for display on a gridview control. the Image data type in the data table is "image". the data that is stored inside the database is in this format "<Binary data>". may i ask if it is possible tojust retrieve a image data of this format and display in the gridview? or do i need to store the image in a image folder for retrieval?

When a user updates a record via detailsview in table 1 (TA), I need to display child records which are in table 2 (SG) and their child records which are in table 3 (SC). I tried to use DataList inside another DataList but I cannot filter the table 3 records based on returned values of table 2. I am also using TableAdapters and added a relation for table 3 to table 2 via both primary keys of table 2. I selected to create Both Relation and Foreign Key Constraint and Cascade as Accep/Reject Rule.
For my select statement on table 2, I filter it via WHERE (SGPrimaryKeyCd = :SGPrimaryKeyCd) AND (SGPrimaryKeyDate = :SGPrimaryKeyDate) and return the correct records based on values entered by the user.
For my select statement on table 3, I tried using a WHERE clause but didn't work. Without a Where clause I get all the records, of course. I thought relation would take care of filtering.

This maybe simple thign to you but I need to display data in below hierarchical format. I am using ASP.NET, VB.NET.
Company
- Product1
- Product2
- Product3
- Product4
There will be only 1 root node (Company) in my case. And it will have 1 or more child nodes. These child nodes will not have any further child, ie they are leaf nodes.
How to display this data in this format using ASP.NET & VB.NET?

I want to display child rows in the datagrid after the + sign is selected (like grouping & outlining in excel). This is automatic in infragistic grids but when i did in asp (no more infragistics) it doesnt work. here is my code (very simple stuff)

So here is the situation - there is data on master records - its a hierarhical view - something like (ID, IDParent, Title) and detail data - (ID, IDMaster, Details)
And like to build UI using an TreeView - binded with master data - and an GridView - binded with detail data.
Question is witch property to use to create the master/detail chain between Datasources - oh, I've forgot to tell I'm using an ObjectDataSource?

I have developed an application using Visual Studio 2008. I have a hirerchical gridview and on every row i have a "Payment" button which actually inserts a payment entry in database. Here is the sample screen of that gridview so u have an idea what i am doing. Problem is that whenever user pressed the button of "PAYMENT" it is inserting multiple records in database..it should only fire once and i am failed to understand why its firing multiple times. I am retrieving data from a web serivce and storing the data into a dataset.
I'm then populating a gridview with the data from the dataset.
Before each row of data is displayed on the website, I need to check and make sure the user has proper permissions to view that data.
Can this be done with a gridview(or any other .NET data control)?
Or would I need to loop through the data manually, and then write each row out manually?

i have web application it should create single HTML page . that one HTML page should send to the customers.how to create HTML page .i created one page but it retriveing single record from the databse values . my problem is i have to pull all the records from the database and papulate the HTML page. but i am getting only onerecord on that page.my code as follows

I have a search option which a person can use a multi select listbox. I have it coded so it would loop through to see if its selected or not. I also have a stored procedure where the sql statement is coded for the select statement. For some reason, its not populating my gridview. Where am I doing wrong? I have a page with a series of Gridviews to display summarised information. There a three Gridviews which need to be selected as criteria and then a Go Button is clicked to retrieve the info.
At the moment the information is retreived as the dropdowns are selected. Can this be stopped until the user clicks GO?

I am somewhat new at C# so forgive me if I have something listed wrong. This is what I got:
I am working on a school project designing a car dealership website. I have an inventory list that allows you to edit any car in the inventory. When you click on the edit button it takes you to the edit page and populates the controls with selections from the database. I have an options table that stores the VehicleID and Option ID. When the page loads it fills all the DropDownLists for the vehicle info with the data and selects the correct item according to the database selection but the CheckBoxList does not select the items that are on the Options table. I checked the query in SSMS and it returns the correct data. I have stepped through the method and it works till the "(currentCheckBox != null) if statement. It doesn't throw any errors but it also doesn't select items when the page renders.
I thought it might have been something with the page life cycle since databound controls don't render until the end but the DropDown's I have fill and selects the correct item according to the database.

I've created a data bound gridview to a SQL database. I am retrieving the data with a simple select for a specific date, and then populating my gridview. The one caveat is that I have added a second header row to my gridview, and then I am hiding parts of another row that was retrieved to only populate the main header row. I believe that this is causing my issue. However, when I step through the code it appears that my ids are proper (the first row has an id of 0, etc....). However, when I check the checkbox in row 4, the actual data from row 3 is being pulled out of the gridview.

If I have the ListView on a mode which only displays data (no editing or inserting), how do I reference data in a list view item using the code behind?
In other controls I have used e.Items and e.Values, but I can't seem to work out how to do it in the listview.
For example if I wanted to set the image based on a database column (I know I can do this in the HTML but just for the purpose of the example, what would I put in place of the *** below:
