Is there a way to share class files across web site projects without actually making a physical copy of the file to the App_Code folder of each project?

Jun 22, 2010I have 2 projects, where they both can upload attachments into a directory.
The problem is how do you get the projects to be able to access each others attachments or even save these attachments in the same folder...
At the moment my ProjectA saves uploads into its "uploads" folder... But when you are running ProjectB it doesnt have the same uploads folder (if that makes sense)
e.g.
ProjectA uploads folder: localhost:50732uploads
ProjectB uploads folder: localhost:50331uploads
I want these projects to be able to view attachments that the "other" project has uploaded.

I have created user controls like login control, menu control, header control, lost password control and etc and they are all connected to sql database for data.
I would like to share these between various web site projects, it means I have same functionality and the only modifications I can do is within CSS styles.
Do I need to copy modules or is there a way to keep them as shared classes/modules and call what I need every time I need it?

Dec 3, 2010I am looking for general direction on the best practice here. I have a class that I want to share between two different forms in two projects that are associated. The two forms are in seperate projects but both projects load together as I have added the second project to the first. I also have a class that I want to share between these two projects which will cause me to add another project to this solution with will mean I will have three projects in my solution. My question is how do I best share this class?
I believe the only way to do this is to add the class in the reference in both of the form projects?... Is this correct ? I'd really like to just reference the class and inherit it in the source code without adding it as a reference but I am feeling that I can't do that. I am obviously pressed for time and working on other projects and a I am a experienced coder with only about 1 year of C# experience...

Oct 20, 2010I'm trying to share settings between two projects: a console app and a WPF app. The WPF app only exists to view and change those settings.
So in my console app, I wrote the following class...

My WPF app has a reference to the console application, so it can access the members of this Settings class.
So you'd think that if I use the WPF app to change one of these settings, then the next time I run the console app that changed setting would be available, but that is not the case. I'll change the masUserID setting from Bill to Ted, for example, but when I launch the console app it shows the setting is still Bill. If I run the WPF app, it's set to Ted.
Visual Studio :: Sharing A Solution File - Projects Settings/Configurations Maintenance?
Sep 1, 2010I am using VS2005 and I have a solution file (.SLN) which has 8 projects. I moved the solution file to a different path on a shared folder to have better organization of my projects and to allow access to the solution/projects from any computer on the network. After that, I edited the .SLN file so that the path of the projects in the solution file are correct (all on shared folders).
After that, I opened the .SLN and everything seemd to be working fine. However, I notcied that the "Start Options" of the website part of the solution file is missing the "Start Options", ie, the Start Options are reset to default values. I think also, but not sure, some other settings of the Solution/Projects have been reset.
Questions:
1. Where the Web Site "Start Options" are stored ?
2. How I can maintain the Start Options and similar settings if the .SLN file is moved or opened from different computers on the network ?
3. I am not using an team development tools, only plain (vanilla) VS 2005 Prof. Edition. Is it possible to have 2 or more developers work on the same solution/projects (shared on the network), if both developers will coordinate manually simultanous access to the porject files/resources/source code ?

Feb 2, 2010I'm building an application where custom modules may be developed and "dropped in" to the system, where they can be picked up and utilized.
I'm building a forum module and have a user control to create a login/registration region. I plan on using a struct to store the user session data. However, i need this class structure to be shared between the forum module and the login/registration control.
Because the functionality is to be contained in the module's folder, i cant add any assemblies to the app_code folder.
How can i share a class or struct among two user controls?

Jun 15, 2010I had two seperated projects that used the same database, similar methods, etc. So i've created a new solution and added those two projects.I've created an C# Class Library project and i've writed there all the methods from the other two. I've also created an edmx file for DAL layer. I've added the reference of the C# Class Library projects to others two but now i'm having an problem.When i try to connect to database i get the error message: "The connection specified wasn't founded in aplication, doesn't destinate to be used with the EntityClient or isnt't valid" (i've translated this from Portuguese, so it's 100% correct).

Sharing Resource Files Between Web Applications?
Jan 26, 2010I have multiple projects that need to share resource files (.resx) Suggestions have been made to move resource files to a separate assembly and have web projects reference it. Is there an example of how to do this?
Do I create a new Class Library project and move App_GlobalResource folder inside of that? I don't think that will work because code classes that are generated for resource files are marked as 'internal' which means that they can not be accessed outside of this assembly.
C# - Sharing An Object Between Methods In Same Class (with Postback)?
Nov 19, 2010I have a user control with a number of methods. I also have a dataset object that I'm filling in one method, but I also need to access that same dataset (and the data in it) in another.
I am filling the dataset from some xml that I get from a webservice when someone clicks on a button. The data from the dataset is then bound to a listbox control. When someone selects an item in the list control (I have autopostback set to true on it) it then fires off another method and it's this method where I need to access the data in the dataset, but when I check the immediate window it's telling me that the dataset is set to null.
Where am I going wrong?

Put Website And Class Library Projects In One .sln File On Subversion?
Mar 12, 2010My company has several class libraries we use in multiple website projects (not web application projects). Website projects don't have .sln files, but I'm sure I've read in my past research that you can make a blank solution and put your website and class library projects in it. After answers to my previous questions, this is the direction that I'm going (based slightly on [URL]

/trunk

/etc...
Then I planed on using svn:externals to copy /library1, /library2, and so on into the working_copy/websites/website1/ folder. I want my team members to be able to checkout the /trunk folder for website1 and get a .sln file, /library1 external, /library2 external, etc. I want that .sln file to contain the website1 website project, and all of the library external projects. Hopefully that would look something like:
/working_copy
/websites
/website1
/trunk
/website1
/library1 (svn:external of libraries/library1/trunk/library1)
/library2 (svn:external of libraries/library2/trunk/library2)
/etc.
website1.sln
So, at the end of all of this, the goal is that my teammates check out the trunk, open the solution, and everyone has the exact same solution. When we commit, everything is committed appropriately to subversion (the website code, and the libraries are committed to their appropriate place on the repo). How have others solved these issues? How can I make a .sln file that my team members and I can share in this manner?

We have some CSS, partials, and master view files that we would like to somehow share between solutions. I have tried linking files but that has to be done for each and every file (cannot link directories, it seems). Does anyone have a tried and true system for doing this sort of thing for larger sites (other than putting everything in one massive solution)?

Oct 21, 2010We have been building ASP.Net websites for many years. During this time we gathered a lot of knowledge of ASP.Net. We know what to use, a what not. One problem is still, persistently, bugging us. I hope to solve this for once and for all.
We have a fairly large solution with lots of aspx-files. All aspx-files reside in one Web Application Project. This single big WAP needs to be split in multiple smaller projects.
There are a number of ways to accomplish this, but I am still unsure what the best way would be. We use ASP.Net 4.0 and Visual Studio 2010 Premium.

Team Build Of Web Projects Generates App_web_xxxx.dll Files And TFSBuild.Proj Script
Jun 11, 2010I have a web application that has some non-web projects as well. When using Web Deployment, a single assembly is generated for all the aspx.vb files. When using Team Build (TS 2008), a lot number App_Web_xxx.dll file(s) are generated instead of a single assembly. How can i solve this problem and change the TFSBuild.proj file so that it can generate a single Web Assembly instead of a lot number of assemblies.
I guess thats because the MERGE operation is not occurring like it used to happen for Web Deployment Project in my solution. How can i enable MERGE of App_web_*.dll files into a single Web.dll assembly file and delete the satellite assemblies? Jan 31, 2011I just moved to a new PC and installed VS 2010. I copied all of my websites over from the old machine and now when I open the old websites on the new machine, they do not show up in my recent projects list on the start page. New websites that I make do show up there but the old ones do not. This is very inconvenient. Is there a way to make old projects that I open show up in the list?
This brings up another question. Is there a way to make a shortcut that will open VS2010 up with a website already loaded so that I don't have to go through the file open dialog every time?

Apr 21, 2010Class file Conflicts in C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727Temporary ASP.NET Files is preventing me from building the solution. Even though I try emptying out the folder, each time Visual Studio starts the build process, it brings in the class file in to the temp folder with the same folder name. If I restart the machine or leave it overnight, project build without error. Is there anyway to tell Visual studio to delete/ignore/clean any lingering class files that could be in the temp folder?
Clean solution option in VS doesn't work either. Class file in conflict are from the App_Code folder.
