Web Forms :: Sitemap Ignores RouteExistingFiles / Adds Forward Slash
Oct 13, 2010
i have an up & running site based on asp.net 4 routing everything works perfectly except for one page the dynamic route for this page is [URL] i also have a physical folder in the site named admin at first i was getting a iis error when i tired to access this page. then i discovered RouteExistingFiles=true so now the page shows up whats odd though that the sitempappath is empty as well as another sitemap-based treeview on the page so i checked the page's sitemap.currentnode , which is also empty. why? so more research showed that [URL] is always redirected to [URL] (realize the foward slash at end!)
if i search the sitemap like this SiteMap.Provider.FindSiteMapNode("~/Admin") then it returns the node . but like this SiteMap.Provider.FindSiteMapNode("~/Admin/") [-with fwd slash] it return nothing so the question is: why is "~/admin" always redirected to "~/admin/" and how do i either stop it or make the sitemap ignore final fwd slashes?

I changed my application to use "InProc" sessionState instead of "Off" because I need to preserve user selected language from page to page doing localization.n web.sitemap I have this line:
<siteMapNode url="Admin.aspx" title="Administrator" description="Site administration" roles="Administrator" />
which before I changed sessionState to "InProc" worked as supposed to: menu item "Administrator" appeared as a menu choice only when user had logged in with admin rights. Now this menu choice is present for every user.

Just to test, I created a blank website and a blank web site project.
When I added a referece to web site by doing right click and add reference it added the dll inside a BIN folder but on ther other hand when I did the same for a web site project it created a reference folder for me and then added the dll under the reference folder.

In ASP.net MVC 2, I can use routes.RouteExistingFiles = true; to send all requests through the routing system, even if they exist on the file system.
Usually, this ends up hitting the "{controller}/{action}/{id}" route and throws an exception as the controller cannot be found.
I do not want to use that route though (I have only a few URLs and they are specifically mapped), yet I would still like to prevent access to the file system.
Basically I want to Whitelist pages using IgnoreRoute. Is there a built-in way to do this?
My current approach is to still have a route "{*anything}" and generate a 404 when this is hit, but I'm just wondering if something is built-in already?

I've been having some production runtime errors that I don't fully understand. This has happened to us on a couple different ASP.NET 4.0 Web Sites (shudders - yes, I know - we're porting it to MVC but that's taking some time).
First of all, we have never been able to reproduce this issue in development/QA environments. Secondly, upon deployment, the issue seems to be non-existent. Sometimes the issue manifests within a day or two of deployment and other times the deployment will be live for a month without it manifesting at all. However, once it manifests, then ANY page viewed under the web site causes the error. Lastly, this problem seemed to only come up once we migrated to .NET 4.0. We started at 2.0, a year ago upped to 3.5, and recently upped to 4.0 with this solution and most child projects.
The error:
Could not find the sitemap node with URL '~/Default.aspx'.
A simplified version of our sitemap (with some names changed and uninteresting nodes removed) is as follows:
<siteMap xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/AspNet/SiteMap-File-1.0">
<siteMapNode roles="*" title="EG">
<siteMapNode url="~/../SM/Default.aspx" title="Welcome" description="" roles="*" />
<siteMapNode url="~/../SD/Default.aspx" title="SD" description="" roles="*" />
<siteMapNode url="~/../SMD/Default.aspx" title="SMD" description="" roles="*" />
[code]...
I have confirmed in all of the SiteMaps that there is a node with url="~/Default.aspx" with roles="*" (which includes public/anonymous access), so I am very confused as to why this problem occurs.
SiteMap does not have a node for Default.aspx. All of them do. SiteMap's Default.aspx node is not accessible for security reasons to the current user/role. They're all accessible to anonymous users and this problem even exists for super admin users. Passed-in URL contains querystrings (Default.aspx?abcd). I don't know if this is a problem (I sure would hope not) but once the problem manifests itself, I can handwrite the URL with no querystrings and the problem still exists.
SiteMap changes. It doesn't Service's permissions to the sitemap file. The sitemap works perfectly fine after a deployment, so unless permissions are changed in a way that IISRESET fixes, then this is not an issue. The worker process becomes globally corrupt. I don't think so. We have ~12 web sites all in the same app pool and the problem always stays confined within a single web site. Also, we have yet to have this happen to more than a single web site at a time although it has manifested itself in 4 different ones so far.

I've got a custom menu navigation built from a web.sitemap file, the first line of this would be something like:
SiteMapNodeCollection topLevelNodes = SiteMap.RootNode.ChildNodes;
However, now I want to be able to create multiple web.sitemap files, and then programmatically determine which web.sitemap file to use, but I can't seem to find out how to do this. I'm assuming I could either create one custom SiteMapProvider that can perform the logic to determine which web.sitemap file to load, or I have multiple providers, each one with the SiteMapFile property set to a specific *.sitemap file, and then switch providers programmatically before I access SiteMap.RootNode.

How would I programatically reference a .sitemap file that is not the root web.sitemap file? I have a file called research.sitemap in a folder a level under root. I want to refernce this file in my code behind like his: SiteMapNode m1 = SiteMap.RootNode (but since this isnt web.sitemap in the root, I dont know how to get access to it).

Has anybody else had an issue with the sender address not being used as the return-path/bounce address when using system.net.mail to send email with a different address for the return-path/sender and the from address and using the SpecifiedPickupDirectory delivery method? This issue is particularly important when you need to send mail from a "user" address, but want bounce backs to come to a different address so they can be processed. Using the code below, I think you can reproduce the issue.
Imports System.Net.Mail
Partial Class emailtest
Inherits System.Web.UI.Page
Protected Sub test_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles test.Click
' Build Message
Dim mail As New MailMessage
mail.To.Add("user@gmail.com")
mail.From = New MailAddress("from@domain.com")
mail.Sender = New MailAddress("sender@domain.com")
mail.Subject = "Test Subject"
mail.Body = "Test Body"
' Drop in Pickup Directory
Dim smtpPK As New SmtpClient
smtpPK.DeliveryMethod = SmtpDeliveryMethod.SpecifiedPickupDirectory
smtpPK.PickupDirectoryLocation = "C: emp"
smtpPK.Send(mail)
' Send Message Directly
Dim smtp As New SmtpClient("mail.domain.com")
smtp.Send(mail)
End Sub
End Class

This is a near identical problem I am having to that of this query, albeit mine is a Web Forms scenario (using routing in .NET 4) as opposed to MVC.Add a trailing slash at the end of each url?The solution that someone mentions there is only half provided unfortunately as the link to the complete solution is broken.At the moment, any trailing slash from my page routes is removed when I get the route url.This is especially problematic when I want to use the following type of inline syntax on my web form:
<a runat="server" href='<%$RouteUrl:RouteName=Posts %>'>
Again here the trailing slash is removed, despite it being present in my route table.Can anyone please help provide a clean, efficient solution to this problem? Ideally, like the 'nearly complete' solution provided in the other Stack Overflow thread I've put above?

My program has 4 pages that have session variables on each page and they are retrieved on the 4th and final page then submitted to a database when the submit button is clicked. When i was testing my program i filled out all 4 pages and then clicked back to refill-in something on a previous page and all my information wasn't filled out anymore. So i added the code in the page load sub btnBack.Attributes.Add("onClick", "javascript:history.back(); return false;") and this cured that problem so i could click back and the data would still be filled out.
Then i saw a new problem....after i went back to fix something on previous pages 1 and 2, i would click the next button to go forward to pages 3 and 4 that i've already started filling out and now the data on those pages were cleared. So how do i make it so that the information from the whole
program stays filled out whether i go back and forth from the 1st page to the 4th until i click submit on the 4th page?

I am trying to sort out a trailing '/' problem I have. Below is what I have in the web.config. I think I need to add a line in the add input section. If he server receives a direct request for an image say /images/image.jpg then it is rewriten to /images/image.jpg/ - this is a major problem as I have customer 404 error pages to deal with all the page requests. I have had 1000's of exception errors because of this yesterday.

When I add a WebPart to a page, I need to set a Property in the class that builds the WebPart.
In the CatalogZone, I declare:
[Code]....
In the CatalogPart1 class, I instantiate MyWebPart:
[Code]....
MyWebPart.PagePartID contains the correct value.
This calls MyWebPart which contains the property:
[Code]....
but vPagePartID is equal to nothing.
What am I doing wrong?
How do I get the value of PagePartID to MyWebPart?

I've just installed VS 2010 RC and IIS7 with .NET framework 4.0 on a Windows 7 laptop (and I'm very new to this).
I'm trying to use Response.WriteFile to add a menu to an .aspx page, and it works but it also adds two square/unknown characters before the inserted text. Also, when I view the source of the displayed webpage in IE8, the source gets up to the point of the two squares, then shows an opening angle bracket (<) and then stops, although the rest of the webpage displays fine.
It doesn't matter whether the included file has any text in it or not, or whether it is an .html or .aspx file.
Response.Write doesn't have the problem.
(In FF and Opera, the inserted text is displayed as html code with a space (opera) or unknown character (FF) between each normal character. I'm not worried about those browsers as I'm developing soley for IE8)

I am creating a CacheDependency on the file that my SiteMap provider uses. I would like to get the name of the file from my sitemap provider instead of hard coding it. Is there a way?
Edit
Duh, I forgot to mention: XmlSiteMapProvider that comes with ASP.NET
Edit 2
Reflector shows a private member field called _filename that isn't exposed in any way as far as I can tell.
