Feb 6, 2011It sounds pretty simple, but I can't find a way to make it work. I have a FormView with a InsertTemplate where it inserts the current logged in user's UserId and content from a HTMLeditor, and a EditTemplate where it retreives the current logged in UserId and shows content from database in the HTMLeditor.
How can I get it to show EditTemplate if the userId exist in the table, and InsertTemplate if the UserId does not exist in the table?

Jun 30, 2010Conseptually what I'm doing is simple, and technically it may even be simple, but I'm still rusty. Here's what I'm trying to do:
I have a webform that allows the user to enter a new record, and in there I have also included a couple FileUpload controls. Upon clicking the "Save" button, I'm saving the details entered into one table (ITEMS), and also inserting the FileUpload details (path, id, upload_user) into another table ATTACHMNTS). Because one ITEM can have many attachments, I needed to split the tables up. So on save, I need to save the ITEM, save the ATTACHMENT, and then also put the ITEM_ID in the ATTACHMENT table. I'm second guessing myself because I think all I'd have to do is after I do the ITEM insert, do a SELECT MAX on the ITEM table and hold the newest (MAX) id in a variable and then use it in the ATTACHMENTS update. I'm not 100% on this because there IS a chance that someone else could save a few milliseconds later and I'll link the wrong ITEM. See my delima?

Dec 3, 2010I have a GridView on a page for maintainance of the database (mdf). Under this GridView1 I have a FormView1 where I use the ItemInsertTemplate to Insert new rows in my database (which shows the data in GridView1). The first textbox (BIDTextBox) i have on this template, contains text which identify a person. I would like to have a routine which checks if the same value that is entered in the BIDTextBox allready exists in the database. This routine should be fired upon leaving the control BIDTextBox.
I have tried with some stored procedure in my database, but that dosn't seem to do the trick. The most logical to me seems to do a loop thru my table "Ansatte" in my database using sql, selecting any occurence from the field "BID" in my table "Ansatte" that is simillar to the text entered in the BIDTextBox.

Oct 4, 2010I have a form that is doing a simple insert, then a sub insert of a certain drop down selection is made. What i dont get is why the main insert is inserting duplicates and the sub works fine inserting 1 record per text as expected. I click the button 1 time, and when i check the table, there are 2 new records.. As you can see the insert is not wrapped with any conditions, once that is inserted i check if a slection was made and runs the sub insert.

Jun 4, 2010I've been wracking my brains for a while. I have a master record that I want to add children to. In a database it's a one to many relationship with a foreign key in the child table.
I have a formview that I want to use to fill in all the master record info, and choose the child info from a dropdownlist, and click an add button, and have the add button add the child info to some control on a page. Then when the user clicks insert, the formview has an ItemInserting EventHandler that will handle all the logic for inserting the master, grabbing its primary Key.
So, I know what to do, I'm just not sure of what control to use, or what memory object etc., that I want to store the child info in until the master record gets created.
I'm sure this has been done a million times, but for all my searching, I couldn't find anything to help me. Does anybody have some advice or can anybody point me to an internet resource where this has been hashed out?

What my requirement is: Copy all the rows from DB1.TB1 into DB2.tblTarget .What I am doing is?Looping all the records from the db1 table and by using InsertCommand adding all thoses records to a dataset.Now using Adapter.Update method,,,, all the records are fethecd to target database table.but when Adater.Update() method executes, it paused there for 3-5 minutes.Can I acheieve this in a quick manner?
