Web Forms :: Assigning Value To Variable On A Page Dynamically And Pass To Control
Apr 11, 2010
Generally I want to pass string result of some control to other control or htm tag like without using specific classes in my ASPX page, only my control and what asp gives:
<a href="<MyControls:MyContr Param="Tech"/>">my link</a>
but this doesnt work - href is not executed, server treats it literally <MyControls:MyContr Param="Tech"/> so I would like to know it is possible to do it like in JSP pages:
- pass <MyControls:MyContr Param="Tech"/> to some variable $myVariable
- pass $myVariable to href like <a href="$myVariable" ?

I'm looking at a routine that returns a variable name and value in two fields from a table, the intent is to then assign the value to the correct variable.
in C# the statement is
Session[dr["SessionKey"].ToString()] = dr["SessionValue"].ToString();
My code is unfortunately VB. I'm having problems with the first half of the equation - setting the variable name in VB.

For example, let's say I have a HyperLink:
<asp:HyperLink runat="server" Text="Foo" NavigateUrl="foo.aspx" />
How can I set the NavigateUrl on the server side, without having to go the code-behind?
This doesn't work of course:
<asp:HyperLink runat="server" Text="Foo" NavigateUrl="<%= urlString %>" />
(where urlString might be a string I created earlier in the page)And this doesn't work because the HyperLink is not within a data bound control:
<asp:HyperLink runat="server" Text="Foo" NavigateUrl='<%# urlString %>' />
I guess I could just use a standard anchor element:
<a href="<%= urlString %>">Foo</a>
But I'd rather not mix up HTML and ASP.NET controls, and it would be handy to be able to do this for other controls.

I have a page the retieves transaction data from PayPal. The data is retrieved as a string of text. I need to break down the string and save parts of it to my database. I have justed a plain string in my test to see if my code works. I have converted some working VB code into C# but I am getting the errors when trying to Response.Write the different parts. The Error message says that I am trying to use the string variable before I have assigned a value to it.

I have a function that gets the position of a control.
[Code]....
All the function needs is an htmlcontrol being fed to it as the parameter (elemRef). I can declare a variable in Javascript of the same content page but different function and pass the parameter successfullly getting returned values. For example, if I have the following function:
function (getPosition)
{ var txtBox1 = document.getElemendById('<%=txtBox1.ClientID %>');
getPos(txtBox1);
}
I will get the coordinates of the control txtBox1. But how can I accomplish this if I am calling this function from a javascript function or codebehind of the Master Page, or codebehind of the same content Page.

trying to get something to work, which I think should be extremely easy.
I'm grabbing a value from my database with a repeater, and want to assign the value to a variable that I can parse and then send into javascript. 'videofile' is the variable from the database, and I want to assign the value to 'vidfile', parse it, and then inject into javascript:
<asp:Repeater ID="Repeater3" runat="server" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource11">

I am using the below example code and have a problem where I can't pass the Request.RawUrl value into an object that extends the Control object (class Test below).When I use the line:
<Test1:Test runat="server" ID="testControl" Target="<%# Request.RawUrl %>"></Test1:Test>
I find that the Target property is never called.If I use this line instead:
<Test1:Test runat="server" ID="testControl" Target="<%# Request.RawUrl %> test"></Test1:Test>
the string value "<%# Request.RawUrl %> test" is passed to the Target property.f I use this line as explained in many posts online:
<Test1:Test runat="server" ID="testControl" Target="<%= Request.RawUrl %>"></Test1:Test>
the string value "<%= Request.RawUrl %>" is passed to the Target property.I need to get the value of Request.RawUrl passed to the Target Property of my Test control object. Does anyone have any ideas where I am going wrong?Control:

I need to accomplish a simple task like this:
1. Assigning text of a few lables to corresponding variables.
2. Taking/posting these variables to server and process them.
3. Print the outcome in a message.
An example would be: Take lable1 as variable x. Take lable2 as variable y. then process as z=x+y. and print z on the page.

I have a stored proc. that returns the USL & LSL values for each of the 8 different Metrics. say, Defect Density (Upper Specification Limit) USL = 0.30 & Defect Density (Lower Specification Limit_ LSL = 0.05). Simillarly for 8 different Metrics. Why I need these Spec. Limits ?...Because I want o compare my project's Metrics Value displayed in the Grid View with the corresponding USL & LSL value of the same Metrics. IF Metrics Value is outside of USL & LSL Then I want to Mark the Metrics in Red Color.

I'm developing an ASP.NET application with C# and Ajax.I have a page that holds user controls loaded dynamically. I need to pass some data (integer values and some strings) to the user control that has been loaded dynamically.Now I use Session to pass these values, but I think I can use another way; something like VIEWSTATE or hidden input.What do you recommend me?The fact that I load the controls dynamically is important because controls are loaded on every postback, and I can't store any value on controls.

I have a problem with ViewState. I have an aspx page that has a treeview on the left and an UpdatePanel with an ASP.NET Panel inside on the right. It is in that inner Panel where I load and unload dynamically user controls. I use that update panel to load dynamically controls.
I also made a custom control for my user controls because I need to pass some values from page. On that constructor I use ViewState to store these values.
The first time I load the user control I call its constructor with parameters. When I reload that user control on each postback I use its normal constructor.
My problem is I the values I've stored on ViewState has become null on successive postback.
Update:
This is a piece of my user control:
public class MyUserControl : System.Web.UI.UserControl
{
private int PKId
{
get { return ViewState["pkId"] as int; }
set { ViewState["pkId"] = value; }
}
public MyUserControl(int pkId)
{
this.PKId = pkId;
}
...
}
I'm following this article to load controls dynamically: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc748662.aspx#id0070065.
Second Update:
I also set the same control ID when I load the user control at first time and on each reaload.
Maybe I can use another method to store these values like input hidden fields or Cache. I've choosen ViewState because I don't want to overload server with Session values for each user.
Third update:
I load the controls with this code:
System.Web.UI.UserControl baseControl = LoadControl(ucUrl) as System.Web.UI.UserControl;
if (baseControl != null)
{
baseControl.ID = "DestinationUserControl";
PanelDestination.Controls.Add(baseControl);
}
And reaload with this code:
DynamicControls.CreateDestination ud = this.LoadControl(TrackedUserControl) as DynamicControls.CreateDestination;
if (ud != null)
{
ud.ID = "DestinationUserControl";
PanelDestination.Controls.Add(ud);
}

I currently have a repeater control and inside the itemtemplate I have a usercontrol. This usercontrol renders correctly, but I am trying to assign a dataitem to a property in the repeater control.
[code]...
RequestId is just an Int32. It just doesn't assign it.
I can put the eval outside of the usercontrol just in the itemtemplate and it correctly outputs the right id.
If I remove the whole eval and just type a number in then it works fine. I was using an EntityDataSource and this automatically binded to the repeater. It printed out all the information from the database on the screen without any codebehind. But when I put in the code behind Repeater1.DataBind(); it then started to work.
I don't know why, but hey it's solved. It now successfully passes the value through. I imagine it has something to do with the page lifecycle.

In my web application, I have to load different Master pages depending on the user log-in information. When I say different, I mean not just the colors but a whole new look[including navigation options]. So I am using 2 Master pages [one of them is set as default] and depending on the user information the other page will be used.
I got it to work by storing the user information in a Session variable and applying the master page dynamically using the Page_PreInit event. But the issue is, if I hit the back
button, sometimes [yeah, only sometimes !!!] the master page is reset to the default page. Initially I thought it is a Session timeout issue. But it isn't, as some of the session variables still have data. Can anyone explain whats actually happening?

I'm a newbie here. I have created a custom control that requests a set of data from a user. However, I want to be able to have a variable number (dictated by the user) of these data sets entered on each page. How can I create and refer to a variable number of instances of a user control on a single page? It's hard to explain in words, but I'm basically looking for some way to do what amounts to the following:

Is there a straightforward way of doing this? I haven't been able to find a clear answer via Google, which brought me to this group.

I have an ASP.NET (VB.NET) page that uses the Cascading Drop Down extender control. The webservice currently has the datasource (e.g. an XML file) hard-coded, based on the CCD example. What I would like to do now is based on the the logged on user, and their Active Directory credentials (at Page Load) programatically select/define which of multiple XML stored on the server should be used by the CDD control. All of the code-behind has been written already, I'm just having a hard time passing the variable generated during Page Load function to the CDD webservice. (Note: The CDD control loads immediately)

The page I am linking to has a text box that accepts a customer number and a button (NEXT) to link to another ASPX.Net page. When I link to the first page, the customer number is not in the textbox. Also, I do not know how to execute the NEXT button so it links to the final page.
