Web Forms :: Using A Custom Control A Variable Number Of Times On A Page?

I'm a newbie here. I have created a custom control that requests a set of data from a user. However, I want to be able to have a variable number (dictated by the user) of these data sets entered on each page. How can I create and refer to a variable number of instances of a user control on a single page? It's hard to explain in words, but I'm basically looking for some way to do what amounts to the following:

Is there a straightforward way of doing this? I haven't been able to find a clear answer via Google, which brought me to this group.

I have a custom control which inherit from the Table class and in the constructor, it takes a an integer as an argument. There is no empty constructor.
Is there a way for the user to set that variable in the properties window after they drag the control onto a form.
I know some .NET controls, you can set the source for the parameter to different things like another control's property, QueryString using just the properties window.
Right now, I have to create the control dynamically. I read the query string and then created the object.

I have a project with a database. There is a table in the database which store news. The news are composed by a headline and a link to a web page where you can read the news.
I want to make a unordered list, where, for each element in a database table, there will be a line in the list, with the news headline displayed by a Label control followed by a Hyperlink control that takes you to the news webpage.
How can I construct a page with a variable number of controls?
I was doing something like this:
<% foreach(News news in NewsTable) { %>
<asp:Label ...></Label>
<asp:HyperLink ...></HyperLink>
<% } %>
But the result of this is that I have the same Label and HyperLink drawed several times.

I would like to wrap Session variables in a manner similar to that discussed on CodeProject.

Here is my question: if I have to access CurrentUser multiple times in the same page, would I get a performance improvement by assigning it to a local variable instead of accessing the wrapping property? Or does the HttpSessionState make sure the object is only deserialized once per request, so that subsequent calls in the same http request don't cost any more?

I'm developing my own forum, and now I've come to the task of replacing text with smileys (such as colon and left parethesis to a smiling ball). this works well with the Replace function, such as
dim smile as string = "<img alt=""smiling"" src= ... "
txt = txt.Replace(":)", smile)
myLabel.Text = txt
However, I'm worried about speed, because this approach means running Replace on every message a bunch of times (each for each emoticon, quote amrking etc). Is there a smarter way to do this, or is this the reason why forums are, in eneral, so slow?

I wanted to gather some methods on how to add a variable number of fields to my form (with Add New and Remove buttons). I know that ASP.NET MVC has easy methods, but I'm unable to find any easy methods for WebForms.
Here's what I've used so far:
Adding a new UserControl to a PlaceHolder on PostBack (I've had to fiddle with ViewState to make this work correctly, huge pain) Adding a new row to a grid and having a template field in a grid (works decently but kind of awkward) Actually having several fields on the form by default and hiding/showing them dynamically (fairly easy but you have a set number of fields.)

What would be the proper syntax in ASP.NEt 3.5 C# to assign a TextBox value to a temporary or session variable to be manipulated (added, subtracted, multiplied, divided) at different points in the application? I want to add a decimal number to this variable in almost every instance as well.

One of the test case requirement is to run the same query ie URL for N number of times. Consider a google search that will have a text box and a Search button. I want to search a string such as "Test API" for N number of times. I can't do this test manually because i have to refresh the browser or hitting the button for so many number of times. I know, we will be getting the same results but that will change the page ranking. Is there any script available to automate this test case in C# or any language?

I am trying to determine the number of pages in a custom paged control I have Built
there are 46 records and I am trying to get to the exact number of pages when there are 5, 10, 25 items per page etc...
at 5 items per page I should have 10 pages
and at 10 items per pages I should have 5 pages
but my code returns values that cannot use.
this is my code:

those are values I get.
When maxrowperpage is 5
pagecountConverted is = 9
pagecount is = 9
When maxrowperpage is 10
pagecountConverted is = 5
pagecount is = 5
how can I get a correct quotient?

created a Custom Textbox Control that is intended to be a "masked date" textbox, so that I can handle different ways a user might enter in a date and make it work no matter what.I did this by creating a custom control with 3 separate Textboxes one for month,one for day one for year,then do some handling for different things that could be entered and it would all work.
The problem I am having is,when I add this control to the page,if I do an alert to check the Text value of the custom control it just gives me "[ServerControl1]" even if I enter in a date.
I tried doing an AutoPostback after entering so that it would refesh the Viewstate to have the values of the textboxes but the control doesnt seem to actually postback, even though I have it enabled.accessing the Textbox value after someoen

I would like to show number of successful orders made by each customer. Number of orders will be represented by number of smiley faces. Upon clicking on the smiley face, it will link to other web page showing full order histories made by this customer. Basically all smiley faces will link to the same page. How this can be done in ASP.NET? What control should I use?

I have a download page with a linkbutton that users use to download files. The event handler of the linkbutton sets up the Response type for the user to see the download dialog and chose to save it. I need to find out accurately how many times the file has been downloaded. If I increment a counter in the link button's event handler, I'd assume it wouldn't be accurate as the user may chose to click on Cancel in the download dialog.
Where exactly do I need to hook this counter incrementing logic?

I am using slider extender in an user control. I am adding that user control 2 times in a page. At that it gives me an error saying "Two components with the same id 'Slider1' can't be added to the application."

I have a web user control with DataList control in it. In my .aspx page, I have a report header, an empty panel as a place holder, a report footer.In my .aspx.vb file, I'll loop through a list of departments. Within each department, I'll load a label to display the department name and the user control for the data, and add both the label and user control to the panel. So there are two variables:
the number of departments and the number of records in a user control.
Now I need to display the current page number and the total page number in the report footer. Is it doable? How? I'm thinking of this approach: declare a page variable count, count the number of department name labels and the number of records in a user control. When the total count reaches a number, such as 20, I'll break the page. This way, I can get the the page current number and the total number of pages. But how to add a page break to an asp.net page?

Is there a way to inherently/manually log the number of times a specific file is accessed in an ASP site. For instance, I've got a few .mp3 files I have on my server and I would like to know how many times each file has been visited.

I want to create a custom control where I define several specifically named DIV sections. The code-behind logic of the custom control will perform operations on these named DIV sections. The page where the custom control is hosted needs to be able to add named controls to the DIV sections and perform operations on these named controls added to the DIV sections.
Let me explain a little further. In the custom control, I want to have code behind logic that fires the following Page Event and uses a condition to make one or another specifically named DIV section visible or not:

Generally I want to pass string result of some control to other control or htm tag like without using specific classes in my ASPX page, only my control and what asp gives:
<a href="<MyControls:MyContr Param="Tech"/>">my link</a>
but this doesnt work - href is not executed, server treats it literally <MyControls:MyContr Param="Tech"/> so I would like to know it is possible to do it like in JSP pages:
- pass <MyControls:MyContr Param="Tech"/> to some variable $myVariable
- pass $myVariable to href like <a href="$myVariable" ?

I need to provide some alternate content for my non-Flash users. I have a directory of video files that is scanned using the DirectoryInfo() function, and I want to use the results to embed all files ending in ".mov" in QuickTime players on a web form. How would you approach this? Right now I am using the count on the array of videos to determine how many times to repeat the embed code. But this seems inelegant.
Is there a way to have a single QuickTime player.ascx control that gets duplicated according to the number of videos available for display?

Can you tell me how it is better to load classes from the same assembly for multiple times? I will explain:
I have a usercontrol that loads the class from assembly A.DLL using (MyAbstractClass)Assembly.Load(path).CreateInstance(type) each time requested page loads. The control can appear on the page many times (about 20-30) and each of them can load the different type from A.DLL...so if control exists on page 20 times, 20 times (MyAbstractClass)Assembly.Load(path).CreateInstance(type)
has been executed.
The question is performance...
Does ASP.NET caches DLLs already loaded dynamically? After first (MyAbstractClass)Assembly.Load(path).CreateInstance(type)and first IO, will ASP.NET load A.DLL from cache on other executions ? Or I need to implement some kind of assemblies caching myself?
If I need to implement caching myself, what is the best and fastest way to do it?

now a days i'm working on my project. In project there is a aspx page which is binded with a masterpage, the problem is that when i run the project in debugging mode i found that page load event of a page is firing two times instead of one along with masterpage page's page load event. This is crreating a problem in filling a grid. I searched through the internet for this problem some says that it may happen if u have any image whose src="" or due to some bad HTML's on page .But i've gone through the page it does not contain any image whose src="" .
