Jul 30, 2010The situation: a FormView with an EditItemTemplate and an Insert Item Template. When the page is entered and a record exists in the datasource, everything is fine with the Formview in Edit mode and the Edit ItemTemplate being used. But when no record is present, the FormView uses the EmptyDataTemplate even though it was switched it to Insert mode. Here is the code used to switch modes, fired in the OnDataBound event:

Jan 20, 2010Being A C++ programmer this is fairly new to me - I am working on a formview and have been facing a problem- The issue is simple - I want to display a success page after I insert a row successfully and a custom error page if the insertion fails (due to datatype or format mismatch with table in database).
To achieve this I am doing as follows -
1. Defining a custom error page in ASP.NET configuration tool (webconfig)

The string was not recognized as a valid DateTime. There is a unknown word starting at index 0.
question - Why my default page is not getting displayed? Is it because I am testing from same development machine or is it because the error page doesnt work for "Server Error" pages?
2. In the "iteminserted" event I am redirecting it to Response.Redirect("~/newitemconfirm.aspx")

Aug 8, 2010I have created a page that pulls some data from a database based on a query string parameter.This works fine.
Then I added some site login, created roles and configured access to folders. I then restricted access to that page in a secure members folder using securityTrimmingEnabled="true" in the site map configuration.
I'm sure this is very simple but what I'd like to do now is use the login user name as my query parameter. I've been going round in circles trying to add it in the Page_Load event but not having any joy.

Download Link Not Working From Published Site?
Apr 5, 2010I have an asp.net that produces a Word document. I want to allow users to download the file to their local drive. I use a hyperlink to achieve this and it works fine from my development site. However, when the website is accessed from a non development machine, I am sent to the proper directory, but instead of the open/save/cancel dialog I am presented with a "Convert File" dialog. Any of the selected file types I select download unusable files. I think this has to do with office being installed on the local machine on which I am attempting the download. Is there any way I can simply download a file from a virtual file to my local drive?

For example: i have four links "Home" "About Us" "Contact Us" "Products".
I generate these links from my sitemap. Here is my site map code:

and it work fine. However, my boss doesn't want me to use this one.

then I would like to set the class for the li according to the controller value. How do I do that?
Something like: if controller == "home", then set the class for the li with the home id to active.

The Insert row in the ListView has an empty DropDownList and GetCountries() is not called. However, if I click the Edit button on an existing row, GetCountries() is called twice (not sure why) and the DropDownList is properly populated. Why isn't the InsertItemTemplate DropDownList getting populated?

Forms Data Controls :: Populate DropDownList In InsertItemTemplate After Insert?
Sep 18, 2010I thought this one would be easy, but no go. What I am trying to do is the following: I have two DropDownLists in my InsertItemTemplate, each bound to its own datasource. After the fields in this form have been filled out and the ItemInserting event fires, I rebind the ListView to its datasource, but the DropDownLists turn out empty. I tried to bind them in the ItemInserting event and it seems they get filled, but nothing shows up in them when the page loads. I also tried to fill them in the ItemDataBound event, but the e.Item.ItemType == InsertItem doesn't do it.
How can I fill those DropDownLists?
