I have an intellisense problem in VS2008.I use code-behind, and though I can declare ASP elements in the aspx file, it's as if the code can't see them.The pages run OK,but when I type anAspLabel and then '.' for example, intellisense does not pop up the methods and members for this asp label.
I've tried the reset option in Options > Text Editor.Intellisense works fine if the class instance is declared in the code behind file,but it won't recognise web controls declared on the aspx page.

I have a problem with ASP.NET web configuration file. I want to deny some users or roles to accessing a specific PDF file. I am using ASP.NET membership and role management system. So I added this lines of codes to a Web.config file:
<location path="myfile.pdf">
<system.web>
<authorization>
<allow roles="admin"/>
<deny users="*"/>
</authorization>
</system.web>
</location>
and put it to the directory witch the file is included in it. Now when I run the project in local system I can not access the PDF file wile I login with "admin" role. But when I publish the project on the web server I can not brows the folder but I can view the PDF file when I browse complete path to the PDF file. So:
I can not access : [URL]
but I can view : [URL]

I know this might be a very basic question, but maybe thats why im having problems finding the answer. Right now I'm creating database connections in my source files by doing something like this:
SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection("Data Source=...Password=...);
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(String.Format("SELECT * FROM Table;"), con);
con.Open();
SqlDataReader reader = cmd.ExecuteReader();
But this means that if I choose to change databases it will be a major pain in the ass. Do you guys know how to use the connection string from a web.config file instead?

I have few settings which I could place in a separate XML file and have them accessed in the Web app. Then I thought (thinking of one additional file to deploy), why not have them in the web.config itself. However, just because I need to have custom nodes, I can not have the settings under . So, I am thinking of creating a custom config handler following this. Would that be better than having a separate XML file? Is It going to be an overkill or performance wise? Is there a better way to go?

Here are 3 scenarios:
namespace NS
{
public partial class A: System.Web.UI.UserControl
private Variable v;
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e){
if (!Page.IsPostBack) v= new Variable();
....
}
}
namespace NS
{
public partial class A: System.Web.UI.UserControl
private Variable v = new Variable();
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e){
}
}
namespace NS
{
public partial class A: System.Web.UI.UserControl
private Variable v;
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e){
v = new Variable();
}
}
When does the variable "v" gets created every time for the 2nd scenario? Is the 2st scenario is equivalent to the 3rd one?

here's the code so far:
[Code]....
[Code]....
mov is a quicktime file, my server has the mimetype: video/quicktime .......... but as I read, this code forces the save as download box which is exactly what i want :) now, here's the catch, i the file I am fetching is NOT on the physical path... it is on a completely different server:Protected Sub LinkButton1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles LinkButton1.Click
Response.Clear()
Response.ContentType = "x-msdownload"
Response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition", ("attachment; filename=mydownload.mov"))
Response.TransmitFile("http://myOTHERserver.com/files/mydownload.mov")
Response.End()
End Sub
Obviously this doesn't work since TransmitFile requires that the file be on your physical path, so how do i do this? Someone said you must use the stream method. Do you have any sample code I could try? I've tried the HTTPStreamReader object but it's giving me issues, so I would love to find out if there is anyway this might work. Now here's some more important information: this are HUGE video files.. we are creating a downloads page... written in asp.net -- so you create an account using the .net membership class, then you select the file you want, go through a form where you enter your billing info and then after you pay a certain fee (this is already implemented), you go to your "downlaods" area in your account... there you have access to the files......... the reason i'm doing this is because i want to hide the download link, which will be something likehttp://myOTHERserver.com/2340987sdfkjhalsdlkjh23 ... (something really crazy)....... we don't want people seeing this on the status bar (Therefore hiding the download link is ESSENTIAL)........ the files are a good 500MB each approximately; so i would love to hear all of your suggestions as to making the streamreader work for me and how long would it take for the streamreader to READ the file........
