View 5 RepliesI am new to asp.net. I have C# MVC application and I need read data (id, name) from .mdb file (in controller) and then pass it to view.
My controller code:
OleDbConnection con = new OleDbConnection("PROVIDER=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;DATA SOURCE=" + Server.MapPath("App_Data/data.mdb") + ";");
I've an XML file stored in App_Data which is only used to read some configuration on startup. When I attempt to open it within my code, I get an Access to the path ... is denied message.
I'm having trouble understanding why, and how to solve it. I guess in theory I should alter the permissions on the file (and directory), but this hasn't changed anything.
To give a bit more background:1. Its a file bundled with the project, so the setup created by VS2008 writes it to the correct place during install. I didn't think I'd need to do anything unusual post install such that the ASP.NET application would have access.
2. When I've tried publishing this locally, I've not had any problems. - This is only on a test Windows 2003 server.
3. I've ran a simple page to understand the effective user of IIS - It is NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE. I tried granting "Full Access" to this user to this file, and still it doesn't work.The code to open it is simple:
FileStream fs = new FileStream(Server.mapPath(s), FileMode.Open);
Where s is defined as '~/App_Data/myfile.xml
I've even copied and pasted the full path & filename (from the exception) and tried "dir" on it, and it is indeed present (to get around a typo for example).I've also tried running aspnet_regiis.exe /s
I'm using VS2010 and need to give my remote server asp .net account (IUSR_istereos) access to my local intpub folder
how do I do that?
i have created 5 pages which are back-end and should be accessible only to sitre admin that is me. how do i do it?

View 5 RepliesI have an ASP.NET application that accesses private key in a certificate in the certificates store. On Windows Server 2003 I was able to use winhttpcertcfg.exe to give private key access to the NETWORK SERVICE account. How do I give permissions to access a Private Key in a certificate in the certificate store (Local ComputerPersonal) on a Windows Server 2008 R2 in an IIS 7.5 website? I've tried giving Full Trust access to "Everyone", "IIS AppPoolDefaultAppPool", "IIS_IUSRS", and everyother security account I could find using the Certificates MMC (Server 2008 R2). However the below code demonstrates that the code does not have access to the Private Key of a certificate that was imported with the private key. The code instead throws and error everytime the private key property is accessed.

View 5 RepliesI'm totally stuck. I've tried many ways. I have a webapplication deployed on Win2003 with IIS 6.0. The website needs to access:
D:data on another PC.
I've sucessfully created a virtual directory (using local credentials to the data PC) in IIS and I am fully able to browse and view all the files. So now the webserver is: WebserverData.
In my behind code, I call filestream f = (Server.MapPath("WebserverDatasomedata.txt")));
and it tells me access to that location: \webserverdatasomedata.txt is DENIED. BUT I am able to browse on the Win2k3 IIS server.
I've set impersonation to true and used local username and password of the data PC. I've configured IIS to use the same username password.
I'm quite newbie and i need to give access to the website at a very low cost, but just few people, how did you guys manage it, to hide the connection link to the public. I mean is there a better way or not to manage this. I don't know if I'm clear. What would be the cheapest way to manage this user account?

I have a database with Pictures in it, they are varbinary(MAX) type, the database is SQL 2005
1. How can I use Linq to SQL to give me the total byte(file size) of a picture stored in a record.
2. How do I get total byte (file size's) of many pictures my a where clause.
I know how to do the where clause just dont know how to add up total byte size of all pictures and or get total size of single picture.
I simply want to create one file and then delete it, means I want to access one file subsequently. I am getting the very familiar error as shown in title. (Process can't access the file,) I have tried using file stream and all other stuff that I found from Googling but no success so far. Does any body have small and neat solution? in short, I would like to run the following statements without any error.File.Create("C:\hsp1.txt");
File.Open("C:\hsp1.txt", FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read, FileShare.None);

View 1 RepliesI would like to use HTML input file type in my aspx page to allow user to browse for a excel file and then read the content of the excel sheet programmatically.If I want to read the excel sheet I need the full path of the file to connect to the excel sheet using asp.net.I do not understand how can I get the full path of the file.I know I can get the filename using postedFile.FileName property.But I need the full path of the file.
View 2 RepliesI have created an excel sheet from datatable using function. I want to read the excel sheet programatically using the below connectionstring. This string works fine for all other excel sheets but not for the one i created using the function. I guess it is because of excel version problem.
OleDbConnection conn= new OleDbConnection("Data Source='" + path +"';provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Extended Properties=Excel 8.0;";);
which i can create an excel sheet such that it is readable again using above query. I cannot use Microsoft InterOp library as it is not supported by my host. I have even changed different encoding formats. Still it doesnt work
