Jul 28, 2010I am trying to deploy my MVC application to IIS 7.5. According to the ASP.Net MVC 2 in Action book (pg 82) all i have to do is copy the bin, content, global, scripts, views, and web.config folders and files. However, when I try to go to the app all the image, scripts, and stylesheet links are broken. If I try to "fix" the links for example "../../Content/myImage.jpg" to "/Content/ccac_logo.jpg" the images will work in IIS but not in the local development server (that comes with VS). In addition, I cant get the script files (like jquery-1.4.1.js) to work at all when served in IIS. What am I missing?

Jun 30, 2010I have a dropdownlist on my page which has autopostback set to true. On postback I populate a runat server div with a bunch of other DropDownLists. I then have a button which does another postback to save the selections. Because the second set of dropdownlists are dynamically generated I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get their selected values?

Then when I try get the dropdownlists using a foreach on the div that I added the control to it does not work. They are populating fine, its just on the button click. I have tried EnableViewState = true on the dropdownlists and my code is correct because if I code them into the aspx then it works, its something to do with the state.

Jun 24, 2012I have try the code that you provide in article "Dynamically Generate and Display Barcode Image in ASP.Net"It is running, however, the barcode image is not there. Eg: I put "a" in the textbox, after push the generate button, its only show "*a*" without the barcode.
The error shows that it is invalid parameter in line "Using bitMap As New Bitmap(barCode.Length * 40, 80)"
I have install the application that been given too.

Jul 9, 2010I'm displaying a table based on query results, and each record has a dynamically generated dropdownlist and submit button (and other controls, but this is simplified). That part works fine, but how do I reference the controls in a function? Here is the code I've tried. Create the controls:

The function SubmitAction_Click fires when I click the Post button, so that part works. I just can't figure out how to reference the selected value of the dropdownlist. You can see that I'm explicitly giving the DDL a unique ID (DS_RecordID). I'm guessing I have to use FindControl to reference it, but I don't know how to format the code.

Feb 11, 2010I have implemented a user control with dropdown lists and textboxes where user may choose to add more of the same user control dynamically then submit the values within all usercontrols at the same time. They way I added usercontrols dynamically is whenever user clicks "add more" button, it increases the value of "userControlAmount" in session by 1, reloads the page and during next page_load event, within an updatepanel it creates usercontrols on the fly.
However whenever more is added since all usercontrols are generated again according to the latest user control counter, the values within the dropdownlists and textboxes are getting reseted.
I can hold all values in a viewstate/session however beyond the time/effort it will take, it doesn't sounds very "professional" to me. I was wondering if there is a more efficient way of doing this.

My question is how can I read the values of these dynamically generated textboxes since I dont see any HTML in the page source for these textboxes even though they appear in the page.
I tried to read using
var str = document.getElementById('txtHello').value;
It always returns null.
txtHello is the Id which I have given to the textbox when I generated it dynamically using javascript.

Apr 28, 2010I am generating an html flow into Update Panels in a content ASPX page (VB.Net 2008 Professional w/ SP1). These include EDIT anchor tags that call a javascript function which calls __doPostBack(target, args); so I can interact with the code behind. This all works fine except on some of the postbacks the connection with the browser just seems to get closed prematurely and suddenly the webpage displays a directory listing. When debugging it, it only happens sometimes, at different places for the E and D options below but not for the V or AddPost or AddArticle. I am just stepping through E or D and suddenly the web page show a directory listing. (What is that? Is the connection crashing? Is the page suddenly redirecting to the base directory because it crashed?)

Web Forms :: Reduce The Length Of .net Generated Control ID's?
Aug 25, 2010I'm looking for ways to reduce the size of my page . I have a page that just renders a gridview - no images - and it is over 400k!
Looking at the html that is generated I see the names of the controls in the gridview are very very long. For example: ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_releaseGV_ctl149_lblBuy
My gridview is about 200 rows by 13 columns = ~ 2600 spans with very long names rendered. The above example is 49 characters X 2600 controls = 127,400 characters just in control ID's!
The actual data on my page ins't anywhere near a tenth of that!
I am already storing viewstate on the server.
YES, I will put a pager on this page to bring down the number of rows. Also, I've seen sever other posts related to page size with some excellent content. I will follow up on them - however I have not seen this specific question answered.
Here is a sample of my page. As you can see there is not much data and a lot of html!

It seems the best asp control to handle each's test option is the RadioButtomList control, thus I am writting in c# code to load programatically a table, render on rows the Tests' questions, and the options via radiobtuttonlist as the code bellow shows.
THE PROBLEM's since I did not ID each radiobuttomlist, once the test's end user submit his choices, I do not know how to get the selected item for each control so I can compute the results.

Aug 15, 2010I use ASP.NET C# with AJAX Professional (http://www.ajaxpro.info)1) I have a div container with Panel control, Panel control should hold DropDownList that will be generated in codebehind function:

2) I have a JS script function "getDDL" that sends data to codebehind function and then it receives response with generated Panel and DropDownList controls:[Code]....
3) Codebehind function "GetDDL" must return generated DropDownList inside the Panel control:

So the problem is when I try to get the generated Panel and DropDownList through the JS response I receive only the text "System.Web.UI.Design.Panel" or something like that, tried to generate only DropDownList - similar text shows up "System.Web.UI.Design.DropDownList".But when I call a codebehind function to get these two controls I see them without any problems. Why I can't get them through JS? I do everything fine, debugged million times and didn't see any problems, I can't figure out what's wrong with JavaScript?

Jan 29, 2010I inherited a really weird ASP.NET application where every .aspx page is basically a WebControl that acts as a surface for every other control that page is supposed to render/display.
One such page has a DropDownList -- I wanted a very simple thing that people do every day, namely to cause a postback when user changes a selection in it. I thought all I had to was set dropDownList.AutoPostBack = true, but after the page is rendered, when I see the generated HTML, I notice that there is no "onchange = __doPostBack(...)" code for the dropdownlist. Consequently selection changes don't do anything. Before I spend too much time digging into this, is there something obvious I am missing?

Feb 23, 2010I've recently added a Master Page to my site,but realized that it's caused some problems in my existing JavaScript setup.I am able to use the following code in most places without any issue to get the ClientID: '<%=myControl.ClientID%>'
The problem I have encountere is that I have several pages that add controls dynamically,and then execute events based on an ID that's passed in,where I can't use this line,because I won't know the ID of the control I'm trying to access until the Javascript executes.Here's a simplified version of the problem:
When the page runs,it creates n textboxes dynamically,and appends a relevant ID from the database to the end of the ID.Let's say the page has added 3 textboxes with the following IDs:
myTextBox1
myTextBox7
myTextBox115
Later,a javascript event fires,and I need to be able to access the control through JavaScript like this:
myJavaScriptFunction (controlID)
{
myvar = document.getElementById('myTextBox' + controlID);
}

May 6, 2010I have a asp.net page where we need to dynamically generate a table, table row, and a checkbox controls in this row. A button serves Add Row and create checkbox function, which works fine. We have another button which serves on deleting the selected row if a user checks the checkbox. The deleting event is dynamically added to the checkbox. But the delete button is not working at all. I think that the page does not maintain the states of dynamically generated controls, even I set Page enable view state to True. Here is the code:

Jan 21, 2011I am creating a Table Control programmatically and I want after user clicks a button to get the values.
The table has three columns, {Title(DropDownList), FName(TextBox), LName(TextBox)} and two rows.
I am getting the values for FName, LName without problem, but I am getting wrong value for Title, which is a DropDownList. It gives me for both Titles, the selected value of the second column.

for 2nd row- -> Mrs, Foo, Bar
after user clicks the button I am getting
For 1st row --> Mrs, Foo, Bar

Jun 2, 2010I have a dynamically-generated textbox and a static text box. They both have enableViewState = false. On the web page, I enter "ABC" in both textboxes. In the code-behind I set both text boxes to "EFG" in the page_load event.
In debug in page_load I can see both textboxes say "EFG". This is what I want.
When I hit the LoadComplete event, the STATIC textbox still has "EFG", but the dynamically generated textbox has gone back to "ABC".
I went one-by-one through all properties on the dynamically generated/static textbox, and they are all identical.
