Web Forms :: How To Validation Multiple Controls
Jan 28, 2011
I have 3 dropdownlists that contain dd mm and yyyy. Obviously, I need to test all 3 together to decide whether the date is valid or not - but how can this be done whilst outputting a single message "Please enter a day, year and month"?

Name
Product
section of job
Quantity
Max Quantity
A
ABC
offset print
100
1000
B
ABC
water base
200
1000
C
ABC
offset print
950
1000
How to insert multiple records like above at once, and how to manage quantity user input is not over max quantity. In example above: Max quantity of Offset printing is 1000 (bind from database, visible=false)
Woker A does Offset printing with quantity 100, C does Offset printing also but with quantity 950, if we sum quantity A and C do will be over 1000 Ã message box: warning

I have a Dynamic GridView on a page as below. The user can add or delete rows. When inserting record, the code is executed one row at a time. I have 3 rows to be inserted to the database. Here is the issue:
-if the first row is not completed, then no record is added to the database
-if the first row is completed and the second row is not, then only the first row is inserted in the database
-if the first row is completed, the second row is not complete, and the third row is completed, then only the first row is inserted in the database.
below is the code:
protected void GridView1_AddNewRecord(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
string constr = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["DatabaseVestConnectionString1"].ConnectionString;
SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(constr);
SqlCommand cmd;
string query1 = "INSERT INTO kart_Bestilling(SakBehandlingCode, KystverketRegionID, KystverketAvdelingID, BestillerReferanse, BestillerLeveringAdresse, BestillerPostKodeBy, BestillerNavn, BestillerStilling, BestillerEpost, BestillerTelefon, BestillingBeskrivelse, BestillingDato, BehandlingSakNummer, BehandlingBeskrivelse, BehandlingStatus)" +
[code]...
How to arrange this piece of code to validate all rows before any insert? or avoid inserting a row if there is one row not complete?the conditions starts with int rowIndex = 0;
if (txtBestillerReferanse.Text != "" && txtBestillerEpost.Text != "" && txtBestillerNavn.Text != "" && txtBestillerPostKodeBy.Text != "" && ddKartTypeName.SelectedValue != "Velg KartType" && ddKartNummerName.SelectedValue != "Velg KartNummer" && tBestillingAntallKart1.Text != "")

I've got a view with 2 forms on it - one to login and the other to register. My problem is that the client-side validation from MicrosoftMvcValidation is firing regardless of which form I submit - because my forms are rendering the inputs with the same id e.g.
<input id="User_Email"
name="User.Email" type="text"
value="" />
How can I change the generated forms to create different id's for the inputs in such a way that the validation works?
I'm using a strongly-typed view with a model with this property:
Model property:
[Required(ErrorMessage = "Please enter an email address")]
public string Email { get; set; }
First form:
<% using (Html.BeginForm("LogOn", "Account")) { %>
<%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.User.Email) %>
<%= Html.TextBoxFor(m => m.User.Email) %><% } %>
Second form:
<% using (Html.BeginForm("Register", "Account")) { %>
<%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.User.Email) %>
<%= Html.TextBoxFor(m => m.User.Email) %><% } %>
My second form produces id's identical to the first form which is causing the problem.
Is it possible to specify the difference in the Html helper on the view or do I need to provide 2 seperate models somehow? I'm a bit in the dark.

I have 4 forms in my asp.net mvc view.I have enabled client side validation on each by put <% Html.EnableClientValidation(); %> Above Html.BeginForm()of each form.The issue is that regardless of the fact that I've specified ID's for the forms the first form on the page gets validated whenever I click submit of the other forms.
Is this usage supported?

I am using two button click events and some required field validators . If I click the first button  the fields in  the other button also validates
I actually want to validate based on the button click if a first button is clicked  only the fileds which are under button1 should validate not the fields which are in button2.
I tried requiredfieldvalidator.enabled = false
it did not work.

I was referring muddasar's one of the article for the validation. Below is my code and i am trying to validate the file upload selected file format on the submit button. I have 4 upload control and  fu1 is mandatory field and others are not mandatory fields. Though i need to validate all the four uploads if the files have been selected. My full sample code is below for easy testing,
<asp:FileUpload runat="server" ID="fu1" />
<asp:Label ID="lblMessage1" runat="server"></asp:Label>
<asp:FileUpload runat="server" ID="fu2" />
<asp:Label ID="lblMessage2" runat="server"></asp:Label>
[code]...
I am doing slight mistake on the return to the main function. if i test indvidual function it works fine. whereas if i include the 4 functions in one function  with the return statement, it's not validating. goes to to the server.

I need to be able to validate multiple validation groups with the click of one button. My Form consists of two text boxes and a drop down list for input. The form also, currently, has three buttons, one for each control. Each of those buttons are tied to a validation control and if the validation is successful, it will add the user inputted data into a database that I have. The interesting part comes when I need to add a forth button which will act as a "Save All" Button. When this button is clicked, I need it to fire the three validation groups.
Is it possible to add multiple validation groups to the "Save All" Button?

It should be simple; although I'm having a hard time to figure out the best way to do it. I've MVC2 pages with multiple forms on the same page having different functionalities.
What's the best way to handle this; including the MVC2 way of validation from the model?

I'm trying to use jQuery validation for a dynamic form I'm setting up.
In some cases this form contains a set of input boxes which are suppose to total 100.
An example might be:
indicate what percentage of students are in each grade?
Grade 9: TextBox1
Grade 10: TextBox2
Grade 11: TextBox3
Grade 12: TextBox4
I want to verify that TextBox1 + TextBox2 + TextBox3 + TextBox4 = 100%.
How do I go about this?

I have a Form like this.
UserID has to be validated when user clicks "Check Availability" and "Submit"
Hence "UserID" required field validator has to be assigned two grops.
As if now it is assigned only Group1
[code]....
I have already gone through How to validate against Multiple validation groups?
which talks about validating Group1 and Group2 when user clicks "Submit" which is a good alternate solution.

I have two validation groups: parent and child
I have an add button that needs to only validate the child validation group which is easily done. The save button needs to validate against the parent and child validation groups, both client side and server side. I think I know how to do it server side by calling the Page.Validate("groupname") method for each group, but how can it be done client side?

I currently have 3 textbox controls on my page. I also have a required valdiator of each of the textboxes. However I only want the validator for a textbox to fire if there is text in either of the other 2 textboxes. If all 3 textboxes are empty then no validators should fire. Is there any way I can do this in javascript/jquery as I want the user to get the best experience possible.

I have a Order view with 2 user controls in it.
The first user control in the view is just to validate the customer and get some more details about the customer. This control is having one text box (customer name) with the button. When the user clicks the button it should validate the customer name in the client side using data annotations of customer model. if validation success then it should use some bussiness logic to verify the customer and show the customer details on the form.
The 2nd user control in the view is to get the address of the customer by searching for the house no and the postcode. This control is having 2 text box with the button.
The first user control is based on the strongly typed customer entity
The 2nd user control is bsed on the strongly typed address entity
The view with both the user control is based on the strongly typed order entity.
The issue here is with the validation. I have the validation summary in the view and client sider validation is enabled. When i click the search button on the first user control the client validation starts and throws validation error messages because when i search for the customer at that point of time i will not have values to may of the customer related fields in the order view.
The same thing happen when i click the search button on the 2nd view. It will throw client side validation for other fields.
What i want to achive is that when the user click the search button on the user control 1 then the validation should happen only to the customer name field (both in client and server).
When the user click the search button on the 2 nd user control the the validation should happen only for houseno and the postcode both in client and the server.
When the user clicks the save button on the order view all the fields in the form even the controls usere input fields should get validated. How to achive this in mvc?

Is it possible for an ASP.NET Validation Rule to belong to multiple groups? I'd like to validate the same control in different ways based on what mode the form is in using a single Validator. For the purposes of this question, the modes are Simple, which requires fewer fields, or Complex, which requires more fields. I know I can write CustomValidators (which I have done in the past), but I'd like a simpler solution.
So, I'd like to combine the following:
<asp:RequiredFieldValidator ValidationGroup="Simple" ControlToValidate="Name" />
<asp:RequiredFieldValidator ValidationGroup="Complex" ControlToValidate="Name" />

ow can I display multiple validation summaries at one time? I currently have three different validation groups on a page for different sections of the page. Basically, the first section should be validated by one validation group, the second section should validate both the the first and section section and the third should validate all three.I've got the following javascript which validates properly, but only the last validation summary is visible, the first two don't appear (but the red asterisks next to the controls do appear).
function ValidateSection3() {
var validated = Page_ClientValidate("vgSection1");
if (validated) {

In a page, I have 4 fileupload controls. The filesize should be under 3mb. When submitting the form, I checked the filesize. If any of the uploaded filesize is higher than 3mb than I warn the user. Hovever, in this case, other successful file uploads are lost. So user would have to reselect intended files. I want all the files to be uploaded when all of them are validated successfully. How can I retain selected files even if there is a validation error?
