Web Forms :: Restoring User Control Property Values Upon Postback?
Jun 9, 2010I'm constructing a User Control that will have one Property called "ContractIdx". Here's how I've constructed this Property:

this.Attributes["ContractIdx"] = value.ToString();
}
}
I'm initially loading the User Control by passing a parameter to it and setting ContractIdx accordingly. That all works fine.
Upon Postback though I'm loading the User Control without any parameters and then setting its ID property to what it was before the Postback. My understanding was that if I did this then ViewState would properly restore everything. Yet apparently this is not the case with the "ContractIdx" attribute.
Where am I mistaken in my understanding? How should I change things to get this mechanism to work?
C# - User Control Not Retaining Property Values?
Oct 28, 2010I have a very simple user control with 5 radio buttons on it, and 3 properties (ID, RatingSetID, and Rating). On the initial load of the page they are on, the code acquires data and places the data into the 3 properties. However, when the submit button is clicked the page reloads and the 3 properties get reset to 0, they are in the !IsPostBack as well.

When I add the user control to the page and call it without any properties:

the default values are not set and every property is 0 or null.

In this case I will have the poroperty called "Name" and I neeed the value of Name to be unique for each "instance" of the control...
So for instance if I have a page with more then one instance of the control, I dont want the value of the Name property for these instances to be allowed to be the same..
...to put it kind of simple, if I dont remember this incorrect, I want it to be sort of like the ID property..but with another name then ID.

AJAX :: Passing Property Values From Server To Client In A User Control ?
Aug 13, 2010I have a user control which has some properties configured on it. I need to access (actually, only read) the values of those properties on the client. I have done it like this.

That works but, at the back of my mind, I'm sure I've seen a neater way of doing it, although I suspect that may have been on an Extender not a User Control. Pointers on that welcome.
Also, related to that, the User Control itself has an Id which becomes part of the name of all visual objects included within it. However, the User Control is not a DOM element in its own right (because it has no visible rendering) which [I think] means that I have to attach properties to one of the visible elements within it, and not to the control itself?

May 21, 2010I am assigning a value to .Text of a textbox retrieved from a database in Page_Load() but no characters are shown in the textbox after doing this. The value is indeed there when I try to read from it after the assignment. I would like to present some characters to the user even though they are the "dotted" password characters so they know a password has been entered here. Is it possible to do this?

I am using the CreateAutoCompleteItem key value pairs method. I have also created an OnClientItemSelected event which can update the value of a hidden field.The problem I have is when the user might want to retrieve a record and I want the textbox to display the correct value when the page loads. If possible making my textbox have key value pairs, etc.

Dec 7, 2010I've done a bit of development with C# applications but not much with ASP.Net so if this is a trivial issue. I have a webform that has textboxes for password, phone number and a listbox for a provider. When I load up the webpage, I populate with the textboxes and listbox with selections from my SQL database. This works correctly. Then I allow the user to change data in any of controls. In the event that is triggered by the Save button, the values in the textboxes and listbox are the data values that were populated during the loading of the page, not what the user has typed in.
What am I doing wrong? I've attached my 2 pages of code.

Apr 22, 2010I have a ASP.Net page that has a gridview control. This gridView control has a checkbox controls. I would like to assign a boolean value from a database field to the Checked property- Checked='<%# Bind("RESULTS") %>'.
When page loads,I get error - Specified cast is invalid!
The code is as follows...

Note: If a constant value is passed at design time it works fine. But i want to assign the value at runtime using Bind.
Environment details: VS 2008, ASP.NET 2.0 and .Net Framework 3.0 & C# language.
I tried returning values like 0s and 1s, Ys and Ns and True and False from a database field. But i still get the above mentioned error.
I tried retreving the value in OnRowDataBound event using Eval, since Bind is not available in code behind. But it would make the field readonly and i cannot edit and update the Results field.
Even though there is a value returned by the query why does the Checkbox does not assign the value using <%# Bind("Results") %> to Checked property instead throws error - Specified cast is invalid.
how i can edit and update Checkbox.
where did the Bind method of ASP.Net 1.x is moved? How can i use Bind in code behind of ASP.Net 2.0?When i type DataBinder the intellisense shows Eval and other stuff but i don't see Bind that would solve the problem of two- way binding.

Apr 2, 2010I have a repeater that I have bound to a sql reader via my code behind page.
However I can't figure out how to populate the controls in my repeater in my code behind code.
At the moment I am having to specify the database field e.g productprice with the control in the .aspx page like this

I would rather specify fields in my code behind than embedding them in the .aspx page.
I also have a subtotal label control in my repeater that I would like to populate its text property by mutiplying two of the database values e.g productprice * unitprice shown in my repeater.
I need to do this in code behind, looping through the repeater. Any idea of how I can do this in C#?
Web Forms :: Passing Values From Parent Page To User Control And Maintaining The Values Added
Mar 18, 2011I wanted to know if we can pass values from Parent page (in this case from Default.aspx page) to the user control and maintain those values on subsequent "Add/Load" of user control.
So in short, if I click the "Add" button it loads my "webusercontrol" and also I am able to pass my default.aspx dropdownlist value to this dynamically loaded user control and assign it to a "Label or Textbox" which resides in my "webusercontrol", now the problem is that the value doesn't persists! What I meant is , when I click "Add" button again the "webusercontrol" gets loaded again perfectly but now all my "Label's" in webusercontrol has the new selected value from the default.aspx dropdownlist.
So say for instance I have a Dropdownlist in Default.aspx page with Values "Apple, BlackBerry, Nokia" and initial value to be passed is "Apple", I click the "Add" button, now my "Label" inside webusercontrol has the value "Apple", perfect! Next when I click "Add" button again and select a different value to be passed this time say "BlackBerry" now I have 2 webusercontrol loaded on the page, so that means I have 2 "Labels" with different ID's, but now my first Label initially had the value "Apple" because that's what I had passed and now when I passed the value "Blackberry" both the labels of my webusercontrol has the value "BlackBerry" instead of one being "Apple" and another "BlackBerry"
Is there a way to resolve this issue? may be Dictionary List?

Sep 19, 2010I'm tyring to write a simple DetailsView only used for inserting new records that will pre-fill a textbox with a query string value. Here's the DetailsView:

All I want to do is set VenueID_FK.Text to = the "VenueID" querry string. I also want the user to be able to see the VenueID number as they are filling out GridView1.
I know this is probably a simple thing, but I am very new to asp.net. I thought I could handle this in the page load event, but when I try something like this
TextBox VenueID_FK = (TextBox)DetailsView1.FindControl("VenueID_FK");
And then follow by setting the Text property programitically. I've accomplished something similar to this on a different page using a FormView, but only for ReadOnly mode and it was handled in the databound event on that page.
I get the error "The name 'DetailsView1' doesn't exist in the current context." when trying to do the above mentioned. When trying the same line in the databound event here, I get the same error.
