I am a newbie to ASP.NET (but not to C#)I have a project I am developing that may seem unconventional at this point but it is a project that I hope to eventually expand and provide a new type of service on the internet. Currently the project makes use of an Excel spreadsheet that is generated by another application I wrote. Basically the spreadsheet is an index to a specific type of file that exists on a host computer and the files are directly linked from within the excel document. When the link is clicked it opens the file using the operating system default program which then processes the file (this takes some time).
This is fine and dandy but when I click on another file, the default program immediately stops processing one file and opens the latest submission and thus interrupting the previous job. To prevent this I am now writing a queuing application. Here is where ASP.NET comes in. I do not want the link to open the queuing application with the file to add into the queue as a parameter because that pops one or more nnoying/scary "you are opening an executable" dialogs and because I want to be able to access the queuing service from a remote computer, and possibily in the future over the web. Instead I am trying to use an ASP.NET service application that will accept the name of a file as a parameter, access the external queue class (defined in an external dll of which only one universal instance is allowed), and add the request to the queue. Whether or not the table is an excel table or on a web page, using a form in this instance is tedious, not only for me but for a user. I want the user to be able to simply click on an html link and have the file be queued without anything except maybe a confirmation page pop up saying that the file has been queued and it will take x amount of time before the file is finished processing.
My problem is I cannot for the life of me find a way to do this. I have searched the interenet for over a week now looking for a way to call a "WebMethod" using a link and I am getting the impression that it cannot be done. Even when I use a form and try to have the form pass a string (representing the file name) as its "action" it comes up with an application error saying that I am missing the parameter I am trying to pass. Here are some examples of what I have tried:Here an example method I would try to access:
[Code]....
Here is an example of how I tried to access directly by way of a link (which results in an application error: InvalidOperationException)"
I have problem in accessing form control "Lable" which resides on my Default.aspx and I want to change the lable text from a class "Functions.aspx.vb".
1) I'd like to make use of the built in membership system. Easy enough by itself. However, I wonder if I should still be building an entity around the User and Role classes since they aren't part of the custom database. As such, they aren't part of the domain's aggregate chains either.2) My entities contain the better part of my business logic. For example, my Category entity has the following method: AddForum(User user, Forum forum). All logic tests are performed there and applied, or not, to the private forums collection. What I am wondering about here is the appriateness of service classes. In the traditional mvc style, a service class operates between the controller and repository to perform business logic. With domain design, we do it in the entities. Should I still be using these, now superfluous service classes? Or should I save them for when something is really needed that isn't part of the domain itself, such as an EmailService
My WCF Client calls my WCF Service which then calls ASMX Web Service. The problem is i have configured my wcf client and wcf service to windows credentials type but when wcf service calls asmx service the user credentials (default windowsidentity) is not passed to asmx service.
In WCF Service i am able to get user identity by using : Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity.Name; WCF Service - i have disabled anonymous access and enabled windows authentication. ASMX Web Service - i have disabled anonymous access and enabled windows authentication. WCF Service Config [Code]....
want to create one web service but I have many classes. I want to call all classes in single wsdl. For example [Assume web service implemented in this class]
[Code]....
my Asmx file is User.asmx.Now when I add webservice reference in website, I want to access as following way
I am trying to read and write text file like that, writing
StreamWriter wr = new StreamWriter(Server.MapPath("aa.txt")); wr.Write("aaaa" + System.Environment.NewLine); wr.Write("bbbb" + System.Environment.NewLine); wr.Write("bbbb" + System.Environment.NewLine); wr.Close(); Reading string line11 = ""; using (StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(Server.MapPath("aa.txt"))) { while ((line11 = sr.ReadLine()) != null) { TextBox1.Text += line11 + " "); } }
and want to display
aaaa bbbb bbbb in TextBox1.Text
Writing is not problem , The problem is reading, to display line by line on textbox , we use " " in normal windows form c sharp , but in asp it is not working. also is there anything instead of System.Environment.NewLine when writing. And is there any converter between NORMAL WINDOWS FORM csharp to ASP .NET C SHARP.
I have a process where I ftp a textfile to a webserver and then process the file (load it into a database). The textfile is then deleted. How do I protect the textfile from being viewed/ accessed by a user while it exists? I'm using ASP.Net 2.0
I have a text file that I want to read line by line from into a string variable. On each click of a button I want to read the next line.Solutions I find reading from a textfile do it all at once though (in a while loop), displaying all lines on screen, but I don't want that. I want to fill one variable with the subsequent lines in the textfile, one at a time, everytime by a click on a button. How can I 'loop' through a textfile in this manner, without 'file already in use' errors etc.?
I have a textbox that I use to gather a date. I would like to have the database store a null if this field is left blank by the user when submitting. I am using the following on my aspx page:
I have an OData WCF service in my ASP.NET project that i use to read and update an SQL-Server database. For one of the tables, the primary key is a DateTime field. When trying to access specific rows through the OData service, the uri looks like this: "http://server/odataservice/stats(datetime'2009-12-12T00:00:00')".When trying to update this table through the service, or browsing to it, it gives only an error. The error is sent before the WCF service is ever contacted, and as far as i've been able to find it's because the IIS does not allow colons in uri's, only in queries, for security reasons (something about NTFS).
The actual IIS error is "HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server ErrorThe requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid", but it seems a bit misleading. If i remove the colons and browse to "http://server/odataservice/stats(datetime'2009-12-12')" it works as expected. However i'm clueless as how i'm supposed to be able to do this in by C# client that is bound to the OData service. It also feels very hacky to edit the uri on the client or on the server on the fly, i would rather have a proper solution.I'm using a hosted IIS, so i cannot as far as i know change it's configuration to allow colons, even if that was possible.
Here is a sample code for the result page: Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
Dim SB As New StringBuilder() Dim NVC As NameValueCollection = Request.Form Dim nextKey As String For counter As Integer = 0 To NVC.AllKeys.Length - 1 nextKey = NVC.AllKeys(counter)
Can u tell me how to read textfile from 15line or from particular line that means i have to ignore first 15 lines of textfile and i should start from 16th line.
I have an urgent issue with US datetime, in my application I am tring to achieve the following:
1. Enter a datetime in a text box in web form 1 2. Show the date time in the label in the web form 2 3. In web form 2, create a dropdownlist to get a nearest date from database (datatype = DateTime in dd/MM/yyyy) to the date entered from step 1.
In step 1, I am only allowed to enter the date time in US style in text box and I have tried manything like:
- Insert <globalization culture="auto:en-GB" uiCulture="auto:en-GB"/> in web.config - Set above culture on page webform 1 and 2
I am based in UK, PC reginal and datetime setting are UK dd/MM/yyyy, sql database is in UK.
I am new to LINQ. when we drag tables we get a dbml file and designer file.
For example DataClasses1.dbml and DataClasses1.designer.cs.
Once we have them then we can start using our LINQ Queries.
In my company project I do not see this designer files and instead there are .tt files which were used as templates to greate ABC.generated.cs files. Is this same as designer class?
I am working on creating an iphone application which logins to we website and retrieves a table, and displays the content within the app. To view the table a Login is required. It seems the site is using Form-Baseds Authentication. WebSite's Login Screen So How do I pass the login ID and pass from xcode to the to the site and retain the information so the user only needs to login once.
I am following the Nerd Dinner tutorial as I'm learning ASP.NET MVC, and I am currently on Step 3: Building the Model. One part of this section discusses how to integrate validation and business rule logic with the model classes. All this makes perfect sense. However, in the case of this source code, the author only validates one class: Dinner.
What I am wondering is, say I have multiple classes that need validation (Dinner, Guest, etc). It doesn't seem smart to me to repeatedly write these two methods in the partial class:
[code]....
This doesn't "feel" right, but I wanted to check with SO to get opinions of individuals smarter than me on this. I also tested it out, and it seems that the partial keyword on the OnValidate method is causing problems (understandably so). This doesn't seem possible to fix (but I could very well be wrong).
Hope this is the right forum to ask. I am trying to write a simple mobile application with two form fields that POST to a webservice that queries an SQL database and comes back with an XML file that needs to be parsed and displayed properly in a browser.
So what I have is a webservice .asmx file that is working properly and an HTML form that POST two variables to the webservice file. The result is the generated XML. I simply just need to know the simplest way to display parts of that data as output within the design of the form page.
Here is the HTML form: http://www.bt4u.org/ And here is the web service: http://www.bt4u.org/BT4U/BT4U_WebService.asmx
If you enter in the following respectively you will see the XML file:
MSS-1607 HWD-2104
there is some sort of class that stores the XML in an array or some such thing that can then be manipulated
I don't know if this has to do with how FindControl works or how scope works. But my base class is having a hard time seeing the fields of child classes. Currently I'm planning have the derived class set a property in the base class, but there are a lot of derived classes, so that isn't a very attractive solution.
