Web Forms :: Finding Dynamic Controls I Add In A PlaceHolder

Jun 27, 2010

My code was actually working before. I think since I switched to .NET 4, it may have stopped functioning.What I do is this: I add some TextBox controls inside a PlaceHolder control. Then when user clicks the submit button, I am reading values entered into these texboxes.

This is what's on the page:

[Code]....
This is how I add controls into my PlaceHolder:

[Code]....

And this is the button click event: [Code]....

Like I said, this code was working before but now it doesn't.

Forms Data Controls :: FindControl Failed To Work For GridView

Nov 8, 2010

I have a gridview with several ItemTemplates. The first contains a checkbox the rest contain textboxes. I then added dynamically some bound controls like this:

BoundField bdfPrivName = new BoundField();
clsUtilities.SetBoundFieldCenter(ref bdfPrivName, "PrivName", "Priv Name");
BoundField bdfDescription = new BoundField();
clsUtilities.SetBoundFieldLeft(ref bdfDescription, "PrivDesc", "Description");
BoundField bdfLive = new BoundField();
clsUtilities.SetBoundFieldCenter(ref bdfLive, "Live","Active?");
grdExisting.Columns.Add(bdfPrivName);
grdExisting.Columns.Add(bdfDescription);
grdExisting.Columns.Add(bdfLive);

I then use FindControl to locate the checkbox and textboxes and perform my logic based the result
foreach (GridViewRow gvr in grdMissing.Rows) {
mckbAny = (CheckBox)gvr.FindControl("ckbAdd");
mtxtApplyDate = (TextBox)gvr.FindControl("txtAddApplyDate");
mtxtDateToAdd = (TextBox)gvr.FindControl("txtAddDateToAdd");
mtxtDateToRemove = (TextBox)gvr.FindControl("txtAddDateToRemove");
etc.

This all worked fine. I then got a request to put the bound fields as the second, third and fourth columns, after the check box and before the textboxes. I found that this was easy to do by changing the Add's to Inserts as follows:
grdExisting.Columns.Insert(1, bdfPrivName);
grdExisting.Columns.Insert(2, bdfDescription);
grdExisting.Columns.Insert(3, bdfLive);
It looked fine of the page, but the FindControls, all of them fail to work.

MVC Dynamic Stylesheets - Parse As Separate File When It Doesn't Work

Aug 24, 2010

The project I'm working on allows an end-user to modify CSS code to integrate the application as best possible. Most of the CSS values are stored in a database and need to be retrieved and parsed dynamically. I setup a Style controller, and gave each stylesheet an action, and then passed the configuration data through to the View. I set the ContentType to "text/css" and then generated the stylesheets. This works fine, but the problem I'm running into is this: none of the code works in the application. I include it in the head code, but it doesn't parse in the code. An example of what I do is this:

<%@ Page Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<dynamic>" ContentType="text/css" %>
.element {
background-color: <%= ViewData.Model.BackgroundColor %>;
}

I include it like so:

<link href="/style/Basic" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="all" />

When I include the CSS code in a partial view and include it using the ViewModel (wrapped in style tags) in an action, then everything works fine. It is when I try to parse this as a separate file when it does not work. Is there something I am doing incorrectly? Or is there some kind of glitch?

Web Forms :: Find Dynamic Control In A Placeholder?

Dec 10, 2010

I am creating dynamic controls... i.e. ddl

DropDownList ddl = new DropDownList();
ddl.DataSource = data;
ddl.ID = id;
ddl.DataValueField = "Key";
ddl.DataTextField = "Value";
ddl.DataBind();
PlaceHolder1.Controls.Add(ddl);

Loading the controls to the placeholder.

Selecting a value and clicking the button, doing postback, I want to capture the value selected in the ddl. I was using "FindControl method" but it is not working, I guess because the controls are created dynamically and will not show due to stateless HTTP.

How else can I capture the values? Is there away?

Web Forms :: FindControl SelectedItem In Dynamic DropDownList

Jun 5, 2010

First post here, I usually try not posting until I am completely lost. I have a webform that gets a dynamic dropdownlist added to a placeholder in a method during pageload. During a submit of the page, I want to be able to get the selectedItem in the DropDownList that was also added dynamically from a DB. I know the ID of the DropDownList, and I know the Value of all the ListItems. Although when I am trying to use FindConrol(ID), and assign it to a DropDownList, the Control comes back Null and I get an error saying "Object Reference not set to and Instance of an Object", I believe because its not finding the control.

[Code]....

Can anyone show me how to use this to get access to the properties of the dynamic DropDownList properties, especially the ListItems within.

Web Forms :: Reading Data From RadioButtonList In PlaceHolder On Dynamic Site?

Oct 24, 2010

I'm a new in ASP and I have this problem. I do some small websurwey. Random questions per page, random count of questions, 4 types of questions (answears 1 .. 10, Text answears, ... atc.) I created webuserscontrol for each type of questions and these controls I dynamicly add to place holder in some page. There is everything OK, but when I click button on the bottom of the page, I need save the results from client, I need to know which radiobutton is selected and save it to DB and make some operation, and then, after saving, this page is reloaded and show next

Questions. This questions and settings I have in DB. My problem is, how to read data from my UserControls after button click (button on page, not on my controls)? Controls in placeholder are NULL in PostBack and after postback there are new controls. I endclose a small code which is "like" my original code, it is testcode to explaine to you.
