Web Forms :: To Build A Form That Has Multiple Steps ?
Sep 14, 2010
I have a requirement to build a form that has multiple steps (there are 12 steps in total). Based on a querystring (eg. t=1), only certain steps need to be in the form. For example, if t=1, only steps 1, 2, 3 and 12 are required so I need to be able to skip
steps 4 through 11.
I'm using a Wizard control for this so far but I'm running into issues with the page lifecycle and moving to the next wizardstep and am wondering how people suggest I could better do the above. The crux of what I'm doing is:
- determine form type based on querystring use a Select statement, then create an array of step ID's applicable to the form type
[Code]....
- when a user clicks next, the method OnActiveStepChanged is fired and the next step based on the array value needs to be shown (this is where I'm having issues)
[Code]....
This all seems to be working however when the user clicks next from the starting step in the wizard, the next step is blank (ie. no step is rendered).
What I've done may not be the easiest way to acheive what I'm trying to so I'm hoping somebody has a "why dont you just do this?" type suggestion :)
I want to build a survey system where you can build a form with questions and some answers to these questions and then members who will log in will be able to take the test.
Then i want to present the different results from the test in some diagram or something like that.
I have a .NET 1 web app that is using a Oracle database, the web app has a page of table names that allows the users to select, there are 101 tables listed on the page. When the user clicks on a table name, it takes them to a page that shows user friendly column headers, the table data, etc. Is there a way to use one GridView to do this and show the user friendly column headers instead of creating 101 pages or 101 user controls and show that control based on the table passed into the page?
for example: the user clicks table 22, I want my gridview to look like this
Buyer's Name State City Zip Code Phone Number
if they click table 55 I want them to see this
Product Wholesale Price MSRP Sale Price On Sale (check box)
and so I, I would like to use 1 gridview on one page if possible and build the grid on the "fly", We have the user friendly column headers in a table.
So my questions are:
is this possible, if so, what is the best approach in doing this
from a scalabilty level and maintenance level, would the 1 gridview be worth for all 101 (and growing tables), or would building a seperate user control for each table be better?
i am currently working on a small project in which i have to build a web form and link that to a database...thing is, i don't even know where to begin!Once i build my database, how do i link that to my website? directing me to an appropriate tutorial on how i can do this?
one of the main things i'd like to do is to connect to a database, get info, and with that info, build a list for a drop down menu for the user to select. is that at all possible?
I have a requirement to build a "Search" form for a travel company. This search form will be used for searching different travel components such as Flights, Hotels, Cars etc. Most of the fields in the form are common (such as travel dates, origin and destination cities etc) for all components but will also contain some component specific fields (such as Business/First/Economy Class & Nonstop Flight Indicators for Flight Search).Even though most of the fields are common, they need to be displayed with component-specific labels.for example:"travel dates" would say "check-in & check-out dates" on Hotel search form where as they would say "departure & return dates" on Flight search form. What is the best approach to design a search form which would display field with component-specific labels and also provides a way to map/associate fields to components (common fields to all component types and component-specific fields to corresponding component)? Is there something similar to Data Annotations for achieving this behavior?
I am listing about 20 rows, each row represents an Order. Each row needs to have 3 buttons, each button click will perform a different action.I have 3 actions to handle each button post request, I am just unsure how to setup the Html forms for each button.
Should I create 3 forms for each button, per row in my listing?(that would mean 20 rows x 3 forms = 60 forms on a page)Is that 'ok' to do? (i.e. or is there a better way to do this?)
To complete an order, I need to code the following steps one by one.
1) update order table, tOrder
2) update customer order history table, tCustomer
3) update shipment table, tShip
4) send an confirfation email
The problem is sometime due to unknown reason, after step 2), program can not finish step 3) and 4). Since tOrder and tCustomer table was updated, how to back to their data before update?
I'm just wondering what people use to stop user from click a submission button more than once thus creating many records. Does any one have any examples that take client-side validation into account. I have done much research on this but am yet to find a feasible solution.
I am trying to add wizard steps dynamically in code-behind but keep getting an exception
"ActiveViewIndex is being set to '0'. It must be smaller than the current number of View controls '0'. For dynamically added views, make sure they are added before or in Page_PreInit event."
I found I have some fundamental error in my building, since I got this error after trying to build the simplest wizard in a new web-site just opened...
can i have the code for getting the values including Images & Data associated with Checkbox control which is checked on submited.i'm using table,in which i have images along with values of measurements.if i'm checking the checkbox means i need to get the value of that particular images and i need to send it to an eamil id.here i need a code for getting values of the image. if any one provide a code for this either for normal tables or ASP tables.
likewise i'm using 12 checkbox in a normal table(i.e <td> ).end of the form, there will be a button which should get verfy the checkbox's and set the correct value.
Protected Sub Button3_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button3.Click 'Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Dim s As String = "Selected items:<br>" Dim i As Int32 For i = 0 To chkbx(i).Count - 1 If chkbx(i).Selected Then ' List the selected items s = s & chkbx(i).Text s = s & "<br>" End If Next Label1.Text = s End Sub Sub chkLayout_CheckedChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) If chkLayout.Checked = True Then chkbx(i).RepeatLayout = RepeatLayout.Table Else chkbx(i).RepeatLayout = RepeatLayout.Flow End If End Sub
Is this format is correct.i'm fresher and i dont know realy
What I have is a datagrid full on personel and their W-2 information for the yr. Currenlty i have a form on another asp page that I send the individuals to one click at a time to print ther W-2. Is there a way to send all the personnel to the form at once and print them all off instead of doing each one individually.
I am having problem with multiple clicks on submit button. Multiple clicks cause duplicate record insertion in database. On the form, I have used validation controls. Also I have to make some validations at server side, so I can't use javascript to prevent multiple clicks.
I am needing to display two gridviews in the same panel on a form. Each of the gridviews has their own sqldatasource. Both datasources pull from the same table but they have a different record selection. When I view this in the browser I only see one gridview displayed. Can someone tell me how to do this or is there a better way to get a two gridview look without using the gridview?
I am using two button click events and some required field validators . If I click the first button the fields in the other button also validates
I actually want to validate based on the button click if a first button is clicked only the fileds which are under button1 should validate not the fields which are in button2.
I have a question regarding a situation that occurs with GridView, ObjectDataSource in ASP .NET application. The GridView is linked to the ObjectDataSource and both are included within an UpdatePanel letting the GridView to fill in an asynchronous way from a form in the same page so it gets more rows as the user enters the data:
I start the project with Visual Studio 2008, fill the form and it works correctly. Then I stop the execution: rerun again and the data I entered in the previous run is in the GridView. Is like some sort of cache saved the data from the session before. I checked that EnableCaching property is set to false for the ObjectDataSource. If I Rebuild Web Site in Visual Studio (not just Build) then it works corretly leaving the GridView empty. Is this caused just becuase of Visual Studio? Can it be turned off? And will it happen in the final IIS it will run on?
I like to use a wizardcontrol on my site. I like to use a radiobuttonlist on each step.
I would like that once an item of a radiobuttonlist is selected, a check mark becomes visable next to the active step title on the sidebar.
For this I have changed the sidebar to a templated sidebar, added a picture of a checkmark next to the sidebarbutton, and put it's visebility to false.
now I have to write some code to set the visebilety of the specific checkmark to true.
I have tryed this:
[Code]....
But then the control is not found. I guess becouse findcontrol is only looking in the active wizard step, and not in the sidebar.
if I hit the .aspx page on the browser and if the page takes time to load say may be 25-30 seconds then what are the steps to be taken to make sure that the page loads quickly. In other words what could be the reason for this slow loading.
