I have a solution with more than one ASP.NET web-application. Every application has its own virtual directory on the same IIS. One application is calling aspx pages in the other applications. How can I share some information (e.g. user/password) between these applications. Is the only way using querystrings (in this case, I must encrypt the information).
View 2 RepliesIm using asp.net website with WCF service, having wsHttpBinding,Aspnet compatibility enabled, specified as Sessionmode -allowed, service behavior- isinitiated and client session cookie enabled. Its looking like Asp.Net session object and WCF Session( HTTPContext.Current.Session) work independently. How can I share Asp.net Session value to WCF Session and vise versa.
View 3 RepliesI would like to create a web application that gives an overview of all latests builds of a Team Foundation Server (TFS). The original idea was to simply query the TFS for all these builds and display the results using html. Now the problem is that this is just too slow. It takes around a minute to get the required informtion. I can't inluence this, it is just given. So I came up with the idea of caching. I could cache all results for a certain period of time and then invalidate the cache but as soon as the cache expires someone that uses the application will have to wait again which is not that nice.
The Team Foundation Server is able to notify whenever a new build is available. So basically the idea is that the application could react on that notification. In order to be notified I have to write a web service and register it with the TFS. That worked pretty well so far. The web service is now notified whenever a new build is done. Now I would like to connect my web application to the web service and whenever the web service is notified by the TFS update the cache of the web application. Here starts the problem. How can this be achieved? First I thought that the web service could fire a .NET event and the web application could react on that event but that does not seem to be possible. The next idea was that both the web service and the web application could use the same cache. The web service could then directly update the cache with the build information it receives from the Team Foundation Server but I am not even sure if this works.
Can a web service and a web application share the same cache? The web service doing something like Cache.Add("key", buildInfo) and the web application buildInfo = Cache["key"]. If not what other approach could be used to solve such a scenario?
Can a windows service and a IIS site share the same dlls?
And maybe the configuration (web.config)?
If I buy a CA certificate for the one site on the webserver, can I use the same certificate on a self-hosted wcf service.
The wcf service will use wsHttpBinding with username/password authentication.
I need a code to have the ability to share my news on social networks. My site structure is in Asp.net and vb.net.
View 1 RepliesSo I've got my jquery autocomplete 'working,' but its a little fidgety since I call the webservice method each time a keydown() fires so I get lots of methods hanging and sometimes to get the "auto" to work I have to type it out and backspace a bit because i'm assuming it got its return value a little slow. I've limited the query results to 8 to mininmize time. Is there anything i can do to make this a little snappier? This thing seems near useless if I don't get it a little more responsive.

Imagine a website where individual clients can see each-other's presence - like a social network or a chatroom.
For example:
Client1 connects to my website. The back-end C# code updates a static field to indicate Client1's presence.
Client2 connects to my website. Will the back-end C# code for the second request see the information stored in the static field from the first request? Is there anything I need to do to guarantee that these seperate instances of my ASP application are sharing static data?
I have set up the Auto complete control and the web service to populate it, this web service resides within the project that uses it, it works fine on my machine (if I had a nickel for every time I heard that from a developer...) , but when I install it on Dev, the site asks for authentication, then when I select the tab with the textbox that has the Auto Complete control, it asks me for authentication again. If I remove the Auto Complete control, it no longer asks me. The funny thing is, I can enter authentication info OR just click cancel and the web service works fine.
In the IIS site on Dev and in the Web config, I have turned off authentication (in IIS I use anonymous and in the Web.config, I set it to "none") My development machine is in a domain, for some reason beyond my control, both Dev and Prod are not in a domain; both Dev and Prod machines are Server 2008. how to prevent this authentication form from showing???

View 1 Replieshow to use web service to upload information to the database using vb.net 1.1
View 2 RepliesI'm new to web development so I'm not sure what's the best option for the problem that I'm having.Basically I have a web application that calls a web service for processing some data. This process may take a long time (hours) and I would to know if there is an easy way to send some status information to the client from time to time.Right now, the client makes the request from the browser and it just waits there until it finishes.
How can I send some information from the web service? I would like to send a percentage and some additional text specifying what is being done.
I have some common dlls that are referenced by both a windows service application and a asp.net web application. I don't want to make separate copies of the dlls and I also don't want to put those dlls into GAC. I try to put that service application under the same root folder as the web application so that they can share the same bin folder. I am not quite sure if this will cause any problems? I did find the web application had random session timeout, but not very often. Not sure if it was caused by the shared dlls.
View 1 RepliesI'm buillding a website for my company. I would like to show the indices from Dow Jones, NASDAQ, HSI, STI and KLSE, and also our company share in DAX.
I've saw some sample that grab data from yahoo finance. But I worry that yahoo will change the page laytou eventually and my code will not function anymore.
What is the best way to do such thing? Or any websites that provide live feed? web serviecs? rss?
If not, any company that provide such service at resonable price? I've read that these companies simply charge $10k per month! is it true? but what i want is just a simple data.
and the ticker data should be move right to left or from left to right into a textbox or in any other control that is more suitable for this work.i have the little idea about this that this will be imlimented with the help of ajax or java script.but the whole process is not so clear so that i start my work.
View 2 RepliesI have an ASP.NET MVC application that attempts to read a file in using a filestream and File.OpenRead().
When the path to the file is a share on the same workgroup, and I give access to NETWORK SERVICE for the share, this works perfectly as desired.
However, when the path to the share is a UNC path to a remote share within the LAN, with read permissions open for "Everyone", the "File.OpenRead()" method throws an exception saying "Could not find a part of the path".
In my test cases I'm debugging locally with the ASP.NET MVC app being given a UNC path to the computer that it's actually running on. It's a share on my C drive, being "Shared" with permissions to "Everyone" for read access.
Is there something in IIS that needs to be configured? If I try to impersonate, in this context, the impersonation doesn't matter because NETWORK SERVICE was the user trying to access the files when it worked for a share in the same workgroup.
I am making an online form (literal form) that needs to have a certain function: when the user enters a 5-digit number, the form should automatically query the MS SQL DB and retrieve information associated to that number and populate other form elements (text boxes, etc.) accordingly.
So say the # was 12345 and in the DB, the record matching 12345 has name=Fred. So, when I enter 12345 into the form textbox, the name text box should be automatically populated with Fred in it.
If this is not easily achievable, I guess a submit button beside the 5-digit number text box can do.
I am still learning my way around ASP.NET and Visual Studio 2005, however I have ample experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, C/C++. The ASP.NET app is to be written in C#.
