View 1 RepliesI am using Visual Studio 2010 Release candidate1. I have to deploy my web application which consists of a website, certain window services, certain WCF services and Sql Server 2005 database.I read Vishal Joshi's blog(http://vishaljoshi.blogspot.com/2009/09/overview-post-for-web-deployment-in-vs.html) detaing Web Package in VS2010. I want to know how to deploy window services and WCF services using Web Package. Also, I want to create a web setup (.msi) for deployment instead of Web Package so that the .msi takes care of all the application and database deployment like the web package does.
View 1 Repliesi have created simple hello world WCF services it is working fine in local machine but when i try to uploaded to the server and then run that service it not at al start like http://localhost:8080/wcf/helloservice.svc
i am trying to modified the webconfig file <endpoint> address i have changed to my servername.com/wcf/helloservice.svc again it shows error can give usefull link to creation and deployment to the server
I created a simple test web service. It was tested and migrated to a website.
I then create a website to utilize the web service I have just created.
I created a web reference to the web service via URL. WDE2008 created a sub folder in the 'Web References' folder in my project folder. Everything looks OK at this point. I was able to code the call to the web service function with no compile errors.
I ran the web page locally via LOCALHOST and everything worked the way I expected.
Well, it works on the localhost so I decided to move it to the website where it should be...
I copied the ASPX page and codebehind to a sub folder of the website. I also created a folder called
App_WebReferences in the website root folder and copied the WSDL and DISCO files from my project there...
Now, here comes the problem... I got this error when I tried to pull up the web page! This is weird because it worked on my machine. I'm sure I'm missing something here.
Do I need to create any other folders on the website and hold WSDL and DISCO files because I'm sure the website needs some kind of mapping info to go get the web service!
I searched everywhere on the Internet trying to find any information about deploying the web page... but it is to my surprise, I could NOT find anything relevant to this. Everything I found was how to create web services and... run them on the localhost!!!
Compiler Error Message: BC30002: Type 'contact.ARLWSContact.ContactInfo' is not defined.

I'm doing a project in component management system. I need to block executable files from getting uploaded. Blocking should not be based on the extensions. For example, i've a file named abc.exe i'm going to change the file extension to abc.jpg in this case that abc file should not get updated. Similar to that in gmail file attachment.

View 1 RepliesI formatted my system which has Windows XP serive pack 2 and after that Installed the VisualStuido 2008 setup.But,when I run any website then it says
Compiler executable file csc.exe cannot be found. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request.
I searched but could not find any suitable soution for it.Before formatting .Net was working quite fine.
It only work if I change version value to 2.0 from version=3.5 in webconfig file
<compilers>
<compiler language="c#;cs;csharp" extension=".cs" warningLevel="4"
type="Microsoft.CSharp.CSharpCodeProvider, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089">
<providerOption name="CompilerVersion" value="v3.5"/>
Kindly reply I wasted whole day for it but could not get the way for it.
is it possible to create web service and asp.net application in a single solution and deploy
View 1 RepliesI'm planning to make an ASP.NET webserver that provides all kinds of functions, like an API. There will be quite alot functions that can easily be grouped (datasystem, userAccount, fileSystem, and so on). I can make multiple services (asmx files) into a single webserver, and let the clients connect to whatever service(s) they need. However, I'm not sure if it's a wise thing to do... Pack everything into 1 big service(1 asmx file), or split up into many smaller services? How about:
- performance/memory on the server (a client that connets with 1 or 6 services)
- Maximum connections (we will use a Windows XP Server edition computer)
There will be about ~30 computers using it. In a worst case scenario, they each computer could make use of 6 services at the same time, if I decide to split it up. A single client could make use of the fileSystem, account, dataSystem and several other things at the same time.
I have created 2 projects in a solution. One project contains Asp.net classes with login page and different other pages.
Another project contains a web service.
When I launch the solution(click F6 in visual studio 2008) the login page can access to the method of the webservice. Both projects are launched.
However when i added this 2 projects into IIS and deploy them (with create command) the login page cannot contact the method of the web service. Even though the web service is running because i can acces it manually. But they cannot communicate each other.
Apologies if this seems obvious, but after a week searching I can't find a clear answer to my problem.
I have developed an application in Visual Web Developer 2010 Express that uses the asp.net application services membership provider. It works well in development on my machine (data in the ASPNETDB.MDF database).
I packaged my application and deployed the relevant files with FTP to my shared hosting provider.
I took a copy of the ASPNETDB.MDF and restored it to the SQL Server 2008 on my shared hosting. I can connect to this through the Database Explorer in Visual Web Developer, but it doesn't contain any schema or data.
I know once I have the database in production I will have to make sure the connection string in web.config is poiting to it, but I don't know how to get the DB to production in the first place.
I have huge excel files that I have to open from web browser. It takes several minutes to load huge file. Is it possible to open a single worksheet (single tab) at a time from excel file that contains many worksheets? I have to do this using C# / asp.net MVC
View 5 RepliesI am working solo on an Asp.net/C# project created by someone in the past. I created two new web forms, and then built the prjocect and did the deploy using a TFS team build project. For some strange reason, my Aspx file is not getting copied to the destination DEV server. It does get copied to a temp folder on that server, but in the end, the team build is failing and not copying over the new Aspx file.
So until I figure out how to fix the team build script, is their a way to just copy the Aspx file out to the desired server location? That as well as copying out a dll which is associated with the build file?
I have an ASP.NET web application with a .resx file in App_GlobalResources whose resources are typically accessed like this:
ASPX: <asp:Literal ID="l1" runat="server" Text="<%$ Resources:GalleryServerPro, Admin_Tab_Hdr %>" />
Code-behind: string msg = Resources.GalleryServerPro.Successfully_Restored_Msg;
Is there any way to compile the .resx values directly into the DLL so that I can deploy the app without the .resx file and not have to edit any of the existing code?I ask this because I am porting an existing app to a DotNetNuke module and DotNetNuke does not allow .resx files, so I am looking for a workaround.

How to create a install exe file to deploy app to web server? (windows 2012)?
I want to call an Executable from a Web Page. I used the following code :
System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("c:\WINDOWS\system32\notepad.exe");
Works fine when executing (debugging) from Visual Studio. But when deployed as a website on IIS, the UI of the Notepad application is not seen. As it is executed as an anonymous user (Network Service in IIS 6.0) it is seen in task manager but cannot be seen as an executing application.
So now I applied Impersonation :
Code file (ASPX.cs File)
System.Security.Principal.WindowsImpersonationContext impersonationContext;
impersonationContext = ((System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity)User.Identity).Impersonate();
System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("c:\WINDOWS\system32\notepad.exe");
impersonationContext.Undo();
(Web.Config)
<authentication mode="Windows" />
<identity impersonate="true" userName="DomainUserName" password="password" />
In the application's virtual Directory in IIS go to properties and go to Directory Security Tab. In the Authentication and access controlclick Edit. Default Settings are: Enable anonymous access and Integrated Windows authentication are checked. This will give the following Error : An anonymous identity cannot perform an impersonation......................
I have a page which has populated a database with a set of information that needs to be processed. This could take a considerable amount of time and I want it to run in the background, mean while I will have my web app display a page with an intermittent meta refresh showing me progress of the records in the DB being processed.
What I think I need to do is start an executable, in a different thread running in the backgound on the server which will run until it is complete, without interfering with other web activity.
Can this be done? Do I start it in a different thread? How can I start the exe in that thread and just leave it to do its work?
I am implementing a simple complex number calculator web service. I am trying to pass an object from the service to the client. I declared a single complexnumber class in my .asmx file, I later use this class in webmethods

Im doing this project where i need to download files through a webservice (images, videos). The download MUST go through an existing webservice. The existing webservice was made when there were no need to upload and download files but the project has changed and now we need to do It through a webservice.Right now I have implemented the download as a method that returns a byte[], I open a streamreader and resds the entire file into a byte[] and returns it to my method. This is working file on small files <~1Mb, above it takes too long time. I want to show some progress (e.g. when the user downlaods a 20Mb video) which i cannot do right now. And i want to make it download much faster (is a strategy to use multithreading and several threads that downloads a part of the file?). It is within a WPF application i need to do this.
View 1 RepliesWhat are the alternatives to System.Diagnostics API for running external EXE or BAT files under IIS hosted web application?
I would like to run external EXE program from my ASP.NET-MVC web application. I don't need to wait till the program exits. I just want to start the program. The execution can take some time or it may crash, so I would like to run it separatelly from IIS in such a way that the web application only triggers its execution.
