Jun 22, 2010I got this error in a project I did a while back. I think this was a web site project that i converted to a web app project. This was a while ago. This is an app I'm trying to run on my local machine. I'm not using IIS.
Does anyone know what this means?

It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

C# - Converting A Website Project Type To A Regular Project
Jun 20, 2010I've created a new vs.net project and added all the files from an asp.net website project.
When I compile, it couldn't find a reference to a class.
In the AppCode the class was defined, but without a namespace.
So I added a namespace, and then on the default.aspx.cs (this is where the error was originating) I added the using statement.
The using statement was not picking up the namespace.

Nov 20, 2010i am working on a project where i have to give call to an .exe file to access the scanner on client side. i am using System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(Server.MapPath("~/bin/Scan.exe").ToString()"); to call exe file in my bin folder on to the server, but it is not getting called.

Nov 7, 2010I am developing and app to find automatically characters stats with the 2nd edition dnd rules to be easy for my party to create characters when we play.
I am using Visual studio 2010 c sharp express and Sql 2008 express R2.I have added a database in the project to have all the data needed. When I use the release folder or the debug folder on other pcs the app doesn't run. Wherever I install SQL server (database and management) things are fine. I googled but I am not sure what to look exactly for and made a brief search here but with no results. I am trying to make sth that has almost no dependencies but well I can't avoid installing .net framework 4 everywhere...
Is there anyway to make database work without installing SQL? Is there any workaround like a dll or sth?

For example, i've a file named abc.exe i'm going to change the file extension to abc.jpg in this case that abc file should not get updated. Similar to that in gmail file attachment.

Feb 9, 2011I formatted my system which has Windows XP serive pack 2 and after that Installed the VisualStuido 2008 setup.But,when I run any website then it says
Compiler executable file csc.exe cannot be found. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request.
I searched but could not find any suitable soution for it.Before formatting .Net was working quite fine.
It only work if I change version value to 2.0 from version=3.5 in webconfig file

VS 2008 - Converting Between Web Project To A Website
Apr 27, 2010I am not sure if I am using the correct terms. But it is possible to create an asp.net website at least three ways.
1) Where the form and code behind code are in the same file
2) Where the form and code behind code are in separate files, resulting in 2 files for each page (*.aspx, and *.aspx.vb)
3) Where you upon the site up as a project, but insert web pages. This approach results in three files per page (*.aspx, *.aspx.designer.vb, and *.aspx.vb)
My problem is I have a site which is done the third way and I would like to switch it to the second. Is there any automated way to do this, or do I have to do it page by page. What I can do is Open a new site with Create Website, insert a page, and then do some copy and paste.
Converting Web Forms To MVC Project Makes Build Fail
Aug 30, 2010We are migrating a project from classic Asp.Net web forms to Asp.Net MVC. I have followed the fours steps outlined here [URL] and all is working well. Now I want to get Visual Studio to include MVC item templates in the "add new item" dialog. So I add {F85E285D-A4E0-4152-9332-AB1D724D3325}; to the <projecttypeguids> element in the csproj file. So this succeeds in adding MVC support to the Visual Studio "add new item" dialog, but now the build fails. And it fails in the strangest way. The three projects that make up the solution each complete with "build succeeded" but the process ends with a message
Build: 2 succeeded or up-to-date, 1 failed, 0 skipped
I am able to F5 debug, but I am not able to publish. We are using Visual Studio 2008 SP1 and migrating to MVC 2.0. Anyone have any ideas why the build is failing after adding this project type guid?

Nov 3, 2010I have been working on this project for a few months in VS2008.. now that we are getting closer to the end, one of the other programmers has been working and doing his in VS2010, so when i try to open his projects in VS2008 it just shows up as XML.. so i have to open in VS2010.. thats fine..
But if i try to open my project in 2010, it prompts to use the conversion wizard.. Should i be concerned or are there any issues with doing the conversion? Being the end of the project, i dont want to cause issues at this point.. So would like to know if converting the project file at this stage in our project a good idea? Will there be any issues using his code with mine since they were developed in 2 different versions..

I do not have any solution file or .sproj file in it.
so I need open a single file at a time and I can not debug the whole project or any single file also.

I also found that openForecast consist of about 6 class files and 3 subFolder which each contains several class files..how to fix it (since the documentation of IKVM itself still getting me nowhere)

Calling An Executable From Web Page
Dec 21, 2010I want to call an Executable from a Web Page. I used the following code :

Works fine when executing (debugging) from Visual Studio. But when deployed as a website on IIS, the UI of the Notepad application is not seen. As it is executed as an anonymous user (Network Service in IIS 6.0) it is seen in task manager but cannot be seen as an executing application.
So now I applied Impersonation :

In the application's virtual Directory in IIS go to properties and go to Directory Security Tab. In the Authentication and access controlclick Edit. Default Settings are: Enable anonymous access and Integrated Windows authentication are checked. Async Thread To Run Executable
Nov 16, 2011I have a page which has populated a database with a set of information that needs to be processed. This could take a considerable amount of time and I want it to run in the background, mean while I will have my web app display a page with an intermittent meta refresh showing me progress of the records in the DB being processed.
What I think I need to do is start an executable, in a different thread running in the backgound on the server which will run until it is complete, without interfering with other web activity.
Can this be done? Do I start it in a different thread? How can I start the exe in that thread and just leave it to do its work?

I would like to run external EXE program from my ASP.NET-MVC web application. I don't need to wait till the program exits. I just want to start the program. The execution can take some time or it may crash, so I would like to run it separatelly from IIS in such a way that the web application only triggers its execution.
