WebMatrix :: Encoding En Decoding HTML?
Aug 18, 2010I stored in a database a ntext "<b>Hello</b>";
But when I read it from the database I see <b>Hello</b> instead of Hello.
In the html source I see this: <b>Hello</b>]

It's great that Razor HTML encodes by default. However, many times I have HTML in a database and want to display it literally on a page. In WebForms 4, we can use <%= %> and <%: %> to choose between encoding options. Raven's syntax is currently @(new HtmlString(Model.Greeting)).
add a shorter syntax to Razor. Something like @=Model.Greeting or @@Model.Greeting, or something else.
I have to send a file to my webservice, but the webservice assumes the file (byte Array) as a base64Binary.
Before the encoding, the byteArrayFile is saved on disk as a regular File. (I'm doing it just for testing)
So, in my Java client for webservice, I'm sending the information this way:
String file = new sun.misc.BASE64Encoder().encode(byteArrayFile);
port.sendFileToWebService(file);
The webservice have to decode the information and save the received file on disk.

In my application, i want to do URL encoding And Decoding in my webservice. how i will do encoding and decoding.
View 4 RepliesI would like to make sure that everything that goes into my database is safe, i.e. protection from sql injection.
What I want to do is type something in a textbox, "<b>hello</b>" for example, it be encoded before it's put in the database, but when I retrieve it, I want it to display "hello" in bold.
I've tried the obvious of server.encode on input and server.decode on the output (to a label and a literal control), but couldn't get it to display the text in bold without having unencoded text in the database.
I need to encode querystring from the aspx itself, like we do <%Eval()%>.Below is my html
<asp:HyperLinkField HeaderText="Your Header"
DataNavigateUrlFields="userId"
DataTextField="Your Data Field to Display"
HeaderStyle-HorizontalAlign="Center"
DataNavigateUrlFormatString="mypage.aspx?type=2&userId={0}"
ItemStyle-Width="35%"
ItemStyle-HorizontalAlign="Left"
/>
Here i want to encrypt or simply encode the parameters type and userid so that it will look like encrypted.
I have an AJAX service where I'm pulling HTML content. I want to Response.Write() it to the browser as a string. I can't figure out how to do it so it remains a string like this rather than formatting the HTML:
<div id="global_nav">
<ul>
<li class="left"><a class="sub practice" href="/practice-time"><span>Practice Time</span>.
I've tried using HTTPUtility.HTMLDecode(string), but that doesn't appear to do anything.
I know we can use the HTML helpers, but how about the strongly typed one's?
Html.LabelFor()
I wish to return the following output
<a href="#"><img src="/images/icons/tick.png" alt="" />More info</a>
If i do the following the content is html encoded.
<%= Html.ActionLink("<img src='/images/icons/tick.png' />More info", "OrderRegion", "Campaign", new {id = Model.Campaign.Id}, null) %>
How can i disable the html encoding?
I have an ASP.NET repeater pulling comment data from a database. In my ItemTemplate I placed some Label server controls bound to the fields (username of poster, date, and post text), but apparently Label does not run the data through HtmlEncode before displaying it. Is there another control I should use? How should I display HTML-encoded data from a repeater?
View 3 RepliesI've recently upgraded a client's web site to .NET 4 and we've found out during the process that now GridView column values are automatically HTML encoded.
They have wide use of HTML strings in their code so we must turn that off. I know one solution would go over each column and add HtmlEncode="false". My question is - is there a way to set this to be the default for all GridView columns in this application?
I have a HyperLink on my usercontrol in which I set onlick event dynamically on the server side like this:
this.Attributes["onclick"] = string.Format("javascript:alert('{0}')", base.NavigateUrl);
The problem is that when Asp.net renders the page, it ends up with something like this
<a href='...' onclick="javascript:alert('TEST')>LINK</a>
which obviously is not valid Javascript. Using " instead of ' wouldn't help neither, the generated HTML is alert("TEST")
I'm using the lovely Html Editor control of AjaxToolkit packet and faced to the following problem:- when a French text is typed like this:"En dépit de la détection d'une possible nouvelle fuite, le responsable des opérations de lutte contre la marée noire a autorisé la compagnie BP à poursuivre pendant 24 heures les tests qu'elle effectue sur le puits endommagé."in code behind from the Editor's property Content I retrieve the text like this:
View 1 RepliesI have an asp.net / C# page which takes a comment, and then emails that comment. Sometimes when the user enters "&" in the comment, the comment is being truncated. So for example if the comment is "test & test" the email only sends out "test ".
I have tried HttpUtility.HtmlEncode - but it looks like the issue is on the outlook side and not on the C# side.
wanting to add the freetextbox from freetextbox.com to it.But before i add that I want to get html encoding working with out having to put the pagevalidation to false.This is what I've been reading and trying to work. I have the encoding from the database to teh site working fine. Its the encoding to the database that is being a pain in my back.http://dotnetslackers.com/articles/aspn /Encode_and_Display_HTML_Securely_in_ASP_NET_2_0.aspxI've added the validaterequest to false and encoding my text by the following.

I have a GridView bound to a DataTable that I construct. Most columns in the table contain the raw HTML for a hypelinklink, and I would like that HTML to render as a link in the browser, but the GridView is automatically encoding the HTML, so it renders as markup.
How can I avoid this without explicitly adding HyperLink, or any other, columns?
I have written a web mailer that can send and receive emails and display them on a webpage.I have a problem displaying special characters though. Like Russian, and Greek and chinese.I am using openpop.net and I can get the encoding of the incoming email as one of my variables.Thing is, how do I display it? Do I set the content encoding of the whole page to what that specific email encoding is?I've got it UTF-8 at the moment and I get garbage.
View 3 RepliesIm pulling out a text field from the database which has and 's in it for line breaks. Which I have left there for pupose of being able to edit the fields later on.
So when i try to display the text I need to replace them which I have done with:
[Code]....
Simple enough. Only when I run the page the source code I get for it is:
<br />
So it seems its not encoding the < as a encode but into the form <
Does anyone know how to stop this happen. Or a method around it?
this is my setup.I get some HTML from an OData service. When I try to HtmlDecode the HTML it won't! It simply outputs stuff like:
<p style="font-size:11px;"><br>
<br>

Why can't I Decode this HTML and render it properly ?
I have searched endlessly for an answer but found nothing useful! I'm writing a simple blog application using Web Matrix and its going pretty well, but I have run in to a problem. I am storing the content of each blog post in a ntext field in a table with the intention of entering HTML in to the database and then have my application pull it out and insert it in to a few different view pages. The problem is that all of the '<' and '>' characters are getting converted in to '<' and '>' when my application pulls the HTML from the database and displays it. I understand that this is for security (preventing code injection?), but only trusted users will ever be able to write posts using my application. Here is a screen shot of what gets displayed by my application:
Is there a way to disable this behaviour or work around it somehow?
for example:
[Code]....
I need both show the cshtml page,and persist it to a file for next visit.
first I found Response.OutputStream, but it was unreadable.
then I found in asp.net we could override Page's Render method to achieve it,but I don't know in webmatrix how to do it.
and in MVC we could use ActionFilter, but I really don't find how to achieve it in webmatrix.
I'm trying to use the ListBox html helper in a simple form.
verhuurPrijzenLst is a simple list that gets put into the ListBox, I think I need "MultiSelectList", but I cannot use it (MVC framework needed)?
I don't know exactly how to do that ( bin folder and @inherits ? )
So it's nice to have a helper at hand, but if you cannot use it properly without using the MVC framework, that is a pity.
[Code]....
How about adding a helper that will create a simple HTML editor, like the one I am using to write this post? That would be completely awesome, and would just about make this good little tool a GREAT tool.
View 4 RepliesI want to enable comment posting on my page, so i need to execute some html encoding before post is sent and inserted into a database. What is the ideal side for this? Sever side(I work with asp.net) or client side (javascript)?
View 4 RepliesI'm just starting out with WebMatrix and would like to know how to style a @Html.TextBox("email") and @Html.Password("password") control? I've tried (in my CSS file):
.email{
/* styles here */
}
.password{
/* styles here */
}
But that has no effect at all. How can we style these types of controls?
