WebMatrix :: Pulling HTML From A Database And Inserting It In To A Page?
Jul 27, 2010
I have searched endlessly for an answer but found nothing useful! I'm writing a simple blog application using Web Matrix and its going pretty well, but I have run in to a problem. I am storing the content of each blog post in a ntext field in a table with the intention of entering HTML in to the database and then have my application pull it out and insert it in to a few different view pages. The problem is that all of the '<' and '>' characters are getting converted in to '<' and '>' when my application pulls the HTML from the database and displays it. I understand that this is for security (preventing code injection?), but only trusted users will ever be able to write posts using my application. Here is a screen shot of what gets displayed by my application:
Is there a way to disable this behaviour or work around it somehow?

I know we can use the HTML helpers, but how about the strongly typed one's?

for example:
[Code]....
I need both show the cshtml page,and persist it to a file for next visit.
first I found Response.OutputStream, but it was unreadable.
then I found in asp.net we could override Page's Render method to achieve it,but I don't know in webmatrix how to do it.
and in MVC we could use ActionFilter, but I really don't find how to achieve it in webmatrix.

I've found a Webmatrix help article that says MS Webmatrix "publishes the (SQL Server or MySQL) database by creating scripts that run in a database that has been created for you by your hosting provider." That is wonderful, except I can't get it to work when I'm trying to publish a MySQL database (backing wordpress) through FTP (my hosting provider does not support 'web deploy'). Again, no problem, since it is already documented that " FTP protocols cannot be used to publish MySQL database. " But this does not excuse Webmatrix from generating MySQL database install scripts for me. During the publishing step, no database install script is generated - at least that I can tell - and there is no manual option to create a database export / backup / install script.
In short, as Webmatrix goes, I'm dead in the water trying to get my database uploaded to my hosting provider. Does anyone know the trick to force Webmatrix to create the MySQL database install scripts on my local box? Once created, I can take-over the upload and install process.

In the example code, you show how to use the rowId in a hyperlink to a detail page like this:
[Code]....
How do you do this with a WebGrid helper?

cnn.Open();
String query = "Insert into REQUESTS (USERNAME,REQUEST_TYPE,STATUS) values ('" + uName + "','" + selection + "','" + status + "')";
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(query, cnn);
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
//Response.Write("Request created Successfully ");
//MessageBox.Show("request created successfully");
Label4.Visible.Equals(true);
Label4.Text="request created successfully";
Label5.Text = "Your Request ID is";
Label6.Text = "ID required to Check the Request Status";

I'm getting ready to start a C# web application project and just wanted some opinions regarding pulling data from a database. As far as I can tell, I can either use C# code to access the database from the code behind (i.e. LINQ) of my web app or I can call a stored procedure that will collect all the data and then read it with a few lines of code in my code behind. I'm curious to know which of these two approaches, or any other approach, would be the most efficient, elegant, future proof and easiest to test.

I recently designed a website for a school, I have their result in my database, I am using Northwind. What I want to do is, since all the result are in the data, I want to input a students name, exam number and some numbers in a card(exam scratch card, which they will purchase) they will purchase. When they input these details, the students results will be pulled out from the database.
Just like exam result portal, where you will look up your result with, your name, school number and numbers from the scratch card.

I am pulling a date from an Access Database and inserting into my Dataset. I am assigning it to "myDate" and then assigning it to my SQL parameter @StartDate.
When I run my ExecuteNonQuery I get a null value in my SQL database. There are no null values in my access database. I must have the syntax wrong.

I have a issue where I am trying to pull some records from an Access 2007 DB that has linked tables from a SQL 2005 Server. When I go to do this the browser IE8 just sits there and does nothing. THe little progress bar at the bottom moves about half way then that is it. It will sit there and show no errors or do anything. I have experience with connecting and manipulating Access and SQL server DB's but not through Access with linked tables from SQL Server. Here is test code below:
[Code]....
This does not produce an error or anything. The browser just sits there and sits there. Is there something I am missing?

I am working on an asp webform that pulls from an ODBC datasource then puts the data in an sql server. Once the data is in the sql server several queries pull data from it to provide information for a report.
This is an example of what I am talking about
private
void ODBCpdEmployeeAb()
{
DataTable dt =
new
DataTable();
[Code]....
The first part gets the data from the ODBC connection and the next part stores it in an sql server table. The problem is I have these methods in the page load event of the webform so everytime it loads it just puts the exact same data in the sql server table which would then provide incorrect information on the report.
Is there a way to append the most recent data from the ODBC table to the sql server ?

I am having a slight issue with grabbing data from my masterpage into my content page (as a whole).
I have generated a public property for the my textbox and the contentpage can see this public property. But it comes across empty (even from within the masterpage). Now I guess the problem is with the property itself (possibly). It also shows as empty when I response.write it's value to the page.
Even when I call the value of the property in the masterpage it comes across as empty. The way I have this setup is that a textbox named pageTitleField has it's value updated from an iframe. All is working well and the textbox has its value updated correct upon iframe content changes. This is great. Now I just need to pass this textbox value into my content page and then set it as the document title.
see my code thus far.
My MasterPage
[Code]....
My MasterPage CodeFile
[Code]....
My ContentPage
[Code]....
My ContentPage CodeFile
[Code]....
I know the public property is being seen from the content page because if I just do a Response.Write(Master.GrabPageTitle) I see System.Web.UI.WebControls.TextBox appearing as the output of that property. So it appears hat the textbox value is not being captured in the public readonly property.

I'm trying to use the ListBox html helper in a simple form.
verhuurPrijzenLst is a simple list that gets put into the ListBox, I think I need "MultiSelectList", but I cannot use it (MVC framework needed)?
I don't know exactly how to do that ( bin folder and @inherits ? )
So it's nice to have a helper at hand, but if you cannot use it properly without using the MVC framework, that is a pity.

The Response.BinaryWrite( does not like what I am giving it.
I am making a ShowImage page pulling the image from a SQL table.
Here is where I am at the moment:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
string myConnection = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ConnectionString"].ConnectionString;
SqlConnection objConnection = new SqlConnection(myConnection);
objConnection.Open();
SqlCommand objCommand = new SqlCommand("SELECT TOP (1) NEWID() AS row,ImageID, ImageName, ImageType, ImageData FROM ImageTable Order by Row", objConnection);
objCommand.CommandType = CommandType.Text;
SqlDataReader objReader = objCommand.ExecuteReader();
if (objReader.Read() == true)
{
Response.ContentType = objReader["ImageType"].ToString();
Response.BinaryWrite(objReader["ImageData"]);
}
// RotateImage.ImageUrl = (string)objReader["url"];
// RotateImage.ImageUrl = (string)objReader["ImageData"];
// Response.ContentType = objReader["MIMEType"].ToString();
// Response.BinaryWrite(objReader["ImageData"]);
objReader.Close();
objConnection.Close();
}

How about adding a helper that will create a simple HTML editor, like the one I am using to write this post? That would be completely awesome, and would just about make this good little tool a GREAT tool.

It's great that Razor HTML encodes by default. However, many times I have HTML in a database and want to display it literally on a page. In WebForms 4, we can use <%= %> and <%: %> to choose between encoding options. Raven's syntax is currently @(new HtmlString(Model.Greeting)).
add a shorter syntax to Razor. Something like @=Model.Greeting or @@Model.Greeting, or something else.

I'm just starting out with WebMatrix and would like to know how to style a @Html.TextBox("email") and @Html.Password("password") control? I've tried (in my CSS file):
.email{
/* styles here */
}
.password{
/* styles here */
}
But that has no effect at all. How can we style these types of controls?

But, when I download the database (which is filled with valud data, visible in the web app) from the website data (for maintenance purposes), it appear empty (no tables) in my local wite.
What did I miss ? is there a better way to get the database back home ?

In the webMatrix examples, which I have working, it's very easy to access a database. Only three lines are necessary to get up and going:
@{
var db = Database.Open("LOS");
var selectQueryString = "SELECT * FROM wknTest";
}
and a little later,
@foreach(var row in db.Query(selectQueryString)){
There's no using's, no connection strings, all that happens behind the scenes. But now I have enough complicated c# code that I want to separate it into a separate C# file. How would I do the above, but in a C# file residing in the app_code folder in a webMatrix project?
