View 1 RepliesI am trying to secure very mixed content that is located in an ASP.NET directory. For purposes of this question, it can be ~/MyApp/.
I want all of the content in the directory and its subdirectories restricted to authenticated users. The default.aspx page, though, should be accessible to everyone. This is the web.config in that directory:
[Code]....
Now if you are an unauthenticated user, everything works fine if you request [code]....
The problem occurs in that visitors do not always request "Default.aspx". We have a default document configured so that they get Default.aspx even if they just request "/MyApp". An authenticated user works fine, but an unauthenticated user is directed to the login page.
Now I know that essentially this happens because even though the request for "/MyApp/" will actually end up serving up "/MyApp/Default.aspx", the security system is only checking for "/MyApp/" since that is what I requested. That is then getting the default security for the directory.
How can you configure an exception to allow access when no particular file is requested in the directory??
Is there some dependency between DefaultDocumentModule and UrlAuthorizationModule? In this environment, the UrlAuthorizationModule has been removed and re-added in order to make sure it fires for non-managed requests. I would not expect that to change the order of execution, though, since UrlAuthorizationModule usually goes after DefaultDocument.
A workaround could be to set up the opposite security with the directory being open, and then trying to secure individual files. Because of the (changing) number of files, and extensions, etc, and the fact that you cannot use wildcards in a <location>, this is not really a workable solution for me.
I have now been trying for many days to get Membership on my website working but cannot. My aspnet db is a web sqlserver 2008 db.
My issues are
1). The MembersPages are still accessible by unauthenicated users in the deployed site. Using the local development server hyperlinking to a MemberPage does infact re-direct the user to the login page and the return url shown is the correct MemberPage selected. But on the deployed site clicking the hyperlink simply takes the un-authenticated user straight to the MemberPage.
2). On both sites, deployed and local, on clicking a login status control, the user is taken to the login page and is correctly authenticated, but the login page return url is always the default page and that is where the authenticated user is returned to even though the destination url in the login control states a MemberPage within the MembersPages directory.
3). In trying to overcome these issues, I have on several occasions deleted the login control and re-introduced it. Although the login control shows while debugging and when the site is deployed, on the login page in the IDA, there is instead an error message stating "Error Creating Control - Login1. Duplicate Component name 'Login1'. Component names must be unique and case sensitive. I'm not sure how to get rid off the duplication.

Im just wondering if the default access rights of IIS in the PC where it is running is administrator? and by default does IIS has access to computer resources e.g. Printer, Finger Print Scanner, Smartcard reader installed in the same computer where the IIS is running.

In SQL, I can used New SqlTypes.SqlInt64, but in Access, I can't used New OleDbType.BigInt.
[Code]....
Using this call;
<asp:AccessDataSource id="AccessDataSource2" runat="server" DataFile="_database/92592_Web.mdb" SelectCommand="SELECT *, (SELECT MAX(ID) as Max_ID
FROM myMovies) FROM [myMovies] WHERE ([ID] = ?)">
<SelectParameters>
<asp:QueryStringParameter DefaultValue="1" Name="ID" QueryStringField="ID" Type="Int32" />
</SelectParameters>
</asp:AccessDataSource>
How can I use "Max_ID" as my DefaultValue? So that basically if the page gets passed without a parameter, the SQL will use the Max(ID) as a default. Can I use Max_ID as a DefaultValue?
I'm an old .asp developer still on the learning curve of .NET so some of this stuff is a little daunting. In .asp doing something like this was pretty easy...

View 1 RepliesI have some ajax fucntions on my default.aspx that I use for saving data to my db. I have the form on my web control. When I try calling the function from my button which resides on the web control. I get an error.
I need to call that function from my registerform.ascx. How do I do that from within the registerform code behind?
function ShowAvailability() {
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "Default.aspx/CheckEmail",
data: '{usermail: "' + $("#<%=subs_email.ClientID%>")[0].value + '" }',
contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
dataType: "json",
success: OnSuccess,
failure: function(response) {
alert(response);
}

While developing and ASP.NET application in C# or VB using Visual Studio 2005/2008/2010 (Not a problem in 2003), if I create a new method automatically by double-clicking on a control in the designer or picking the new method in the code editor dropdowns (VB only), the access modifier is always protected instead of private. This is annoying because my developers have to manually change the method to private every time.
View 2 RepliesWhat is the default access modifier for controls created on .aspx page. Private or something else?

View 2 RepliesWhy is there no default 'create/open' access to 'WebSites' from the VS2010 start page?
Background:I've succesfully been developing ASP.NET web applications (via WebSite method ((((Not WebProjects)))), using VisualWebDeveloper) for roughly 3 years. Personally, I prefer the WebSite method or strategy due to the decrease in both size and complexity (the web applications I build are generally for around 50-100 simultaneous users logging in and out and constantly manipulating data). I will continue bulding my sites via the 'Website' method provided VS2010 doesn't begin it's deprecation.The root of this question (which boiled into this post) came from perusing this article and this video tutorial. It's a shame to see functionality that brings with it an overall ease of use and increase in production capacity by decreasing both size and complexity of web application development... downplayed.
If the Visual Studio 2010 Development Team left this functionality out for a reason, I would very much like to know. So that I know what is going to be "sponsored by Microsoft" in a couple of years and I don't waste another second considering using the 'WebSite method' as a viable solution (as I know that I can't stick with vs2008 while rest the development community gets to evolve with the innovations implemented within vs2010)... WebSite method or the WebProjects method.
I've a default.aspx page in my application's root folder. I added a a page in the root of inetpub that redirects requests to the default page. The idea is that the user need only enter the server name to get to the default page. How can I set things up so that all users have access to the default.aspx and that they only have access to the other pages once they've been authenticated?
I am using Windows Integrated Security and the users are being challenged and authenticated properly. I want them to be able to access Default.aspx without any challenges.
(On a side note which may answer this question, when using WIS does the user *allows* have to be challenged? Isn't it possible to pass through their Windows User and ID without the prompt?)

the default ASP.NET Forms Authentication cookie sets it's name as ".ASPXAUTH". Notice the first character is a period? Is there a particular reason for this? Like, does this have an impact on domain names or subdomains for the target domain.
Or is it purely some random thing an MS dev person came up with (maybe to help out the ordering of the cookies, when they were debugging or something .. as text with periods prolly get listed before other strings)?
How can I consume a default WCF web service, right out of the box from VS 2010 in a default ASP.NET MVC project right out of the box from VS 2010?
I know how to start up the WCF web service and add the service reference in the ASP.NET MVC project. So what I want to know is exactly what code I shall write in the ASP.NET MVC project?
When i created a simple site via Matrix which adopts Razor technology by default, i found site automatically display "default.cshtml" if started through "http://localhost:xxxx/bread/" ; however i hadn't set "default.cshtml" as "default document" for this site, even i seek in the "applicationhost.config" i just find
<defaultDocument enabled="true">
<files>
<add value="Default.htm" />
<add value="Default.asp" />
<add value="index.htm" />
<add value="index.html" />
<add value="iisstart.htm" />
<add value="default.aspx" />
</files>
</defaultDocument>
which apparently hasn't "...cshtml" yet. So I am wondering now why in this case the web server actively sets "default.cshtml" as default start page ?
Here is my scenario.In default.aspx page user selects the country, state, city from drop down list, and store them in cache for further use. but when other user open the web site from other computer it shows the same country, state, and city selected by user 1. Is there any problem related to cache? I have stored data as following.
cache["ctryID"] = ctryID;
cache["stateID"]= stateID;
cache["cityID"]= cityID;
I want to show default country, state , city at page load of default.aspx
Is there anything missing in IIS 6.0 that prevents me from (Insert into table) using MS-Access?
Explain: The application works fine under Visual Studio 2008 IDE the insert into table works fine with no error, Also I tested with hosting provider and works fine with no problem. but now I have published the same exact app in a dedicated server windows 2003 with
IIS 6.0 .NET framework 2.0 with latest service pack I gave IIS_WPG write/modify access to the folder where MS-Access database is located and database but at the time of insert an error pop-up. I need to install in the Server or settings in the IIS to recognize my MS-Access db is it some office runtime that I am missing. (BTW I am using OLEDB connection string in my C# )
Using System.Data.OleDb;
I can retrieve data off of it with no problem but when I try to insert is when it fails I thought the problem was Access Rights but I do not think is the case.
Here's a short explanation of my asp.net project.
1) the default page loads, it will read the Windows Login of the user opening the page.
2) I'll check if this login exists in a table stored on the webserver.
In this Access Database, there's a 2nd linked table, pointing to another access table on a network location. Now, I want to read data from this linked table. However, at this moment I receive an error:
"The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '\<ip><shared-folder>statistics.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data".
Some extra info:
- The network folder has read and write permissions for everyone
- the user and group permissions on both access files are set to read/modify/administer for the Admin user (on the tables I want to read from)
- IIS authentication on the server is set to "Windows Authentication" (this is needed so I can read the Windows Login from the user). All other authentication modes are disables (like anonymous, ...)
- When the error occurs, no other program or process has access to the statistics.mdb (so, it can't be locked by someone else)
- the web.config files access connection string looks like:
<add name="AccessConnectionString" connectionString="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=\<IP><shared-folder>statistics.mdb;User Id=admin; Password=;" />
Like I said before, in this statistics.mdb file, there are 2 tables. One normal table, and another linked table (pointing to a network location)
Searching for solutions, I discovered the following:
- if I don't use linked tables, everything works fine (however, I have to use this linked table)
- even if I connect directly to the table in the network I receive the error. So, I'm pretty sure I don't have sufficient rights to read from this table.
I read that not the Admin user is opening the file, but actually a user called ASP.NET. This user doesn't have the correct rights to do this. However, I'm not sure if this is true.
currently i am using jquery datepicker with <input> tag:
[Code]....
however, i wan to have the default value for the date field, i use editortemplate to try:
[Code]....
this is work IF i change my <input> tag to <%: Html.EditorFor(model => model.FoodStoreDate, new { @class = "date" })%>BUT, if i use the editorfor, the datepicker cant work.so, i wonder is there any win-win solution?? so that i can use datepicker and also showing the default date value??
is it possible to change the default date values accepted by sql server to dd,mm,yyyy instead of the default mm,dd,yyyy?
