Add "variable" In Querystring In Place Of Simple String "value"?
Oct 20, 2010
Response.Redirect("mypage.aspx?ID=xyz&sex=male")
I know the querystring is 'ID=xyz&sex=male', where ID is the first key and sex is the second and xyz is the first value and male is the second to the respective key. But can't I use a variable in place of a regular string 'value', like this:
dim str as string
str="xyz"
and use this str in the 'value' part of the querystring above as: Response.Redirect("mypage.aspx?ID='str'&sex=male")?

The problem I am having is that I would like to open a new tab via a link button or link on my page. I need to append a query string variable from the page onto the end of the reference, because it is passing a parameter to a report.
I've successfully passed the parameter and opened the report in the same tab using this code:
protected void lbSummary_OnClick(object sender, CommandEventArgs e)
{
Response.Redirect("http://myreportserverURL&rs:Command=Render&Year="+YearID);
}
And I've successfully opened the report in a new tab without passing the parameter with this code:
<a href="http://myreportserverURL" target="_blank" class="menu">Report Name</a>
I would prefer to do both. One important note is that opening a new window, instead of a new tab, is not what I need. I do understand that this is somewhat dependant on browser use, but for this project I can assume that users will be on IE8.

Just to be forward, my .net and c# expierence is very limited, that one could say I'm a complete noob :) However I do have some grasp on OOP as I usually work in PHP (FWIW). My problem seems to be with this line:
Session["total"] = dt.Compute("SUM(price)", "").ToString();
which will output a total of say "9.2" where as the price is "9.20" from a few record lines as such:
dt.Rows.Add(strRecord, 9.20, dropDownListDistrict_stepTitle.Text);
thus 9.20 + 9.20 = "18.40", but the page displays "18.4".
The label that displays the total sum is:
<asp:Label ID="labelTotal3" runat="server" Text="0" />
From what I've gathered, I'm suffering from some kind of type casting problem? Hopefully I haven't missed anything, its a bit difficult to show all the code but hopefully someone can point me in the right direction? Question is; how can I get an extra decimal place to show up on my sum (or why is it dropping the last decimal place?).

The following code does not work. There is only 1 row in this table. How do I just get the statement that the sql would return?:
SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(connectionStringArg);
SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand("select applicationname from tbl_settings");
command.Connection = conn;
conn.Open();
string simpleValue = command.ExecuteReader()[0].ToString();
conn.Close();
return simpleValue;

i have a strange error creaping into my web app but am unsure as to how to fix it. When i run this code on my debug workstation it works fine but when i transfer it to my server things seam to go wrong.
dev station (windows 7) + VS2010
regional and language settings all set to uk
server (windows 2008r2)
regional and language settings all set to uk
What seams to be happening is that when converting a string to a double it works correctly on the dev environment but moves the decimal place to the end on the server.
example code(vb)
dim lat as string = "52.983829"
dim long as string = "-0.036500"
dim latint as double = lat
dim longint as double = long
now on the dev server the value of latint is 52.983829 as you might expect but on when published to the server it becomes 52983829.0 the same with longint on the dev staion it is -0.036500 but on the server it becomes -36500.0 i get equally confusing problems if i try to change it to an integer instead.

This works fine: Controller.cs
ViewData["MyText"] = "Hello World";
Index.aspx
<%: Html.Label(ViewData["MyText"].ToString()) %>
But the complete text is not displayed when I add just a dot "." to "Hello World". I thought "<%:" takes care for this but it seams that this is not true... How to solve this? How to mask the dot? Changing "." with "%2E" doesnt work ;-(

I need to pass '+' via the QueryString.
some special character can be passed by using 'Encode' .. but '+'
I know the one solution, If I replace '+' with other character.
But it's not the perfect solution.

I'm trying to take a querystring in string format and get the data out, like what would have been done with request.querystring("thefield")
I am submitting a form using ajax with this syntax:
var str = $("form").serialize();
$.post(url.....
So the serialized data posts to the controller fine, but I can't figure out how to deserialize the str value on the c# side. Guessing there is a better answer than writing a custom routine.

I have a page that is used to add info from a gridview into a user's profile. I have explained my issues after all of the code. Here is the applicable code(s) involved:
Protected Sub AddToCart(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As CommandEventArgs)
For Each gvr In GridViewItems.Rows
Dim txtGiftAmt As TextBox = (CType(gvr.FindControl("txtGiftAmt"), TextBox))
If txtGiftAmt.Visible = True Then
Dim customPrice As String = txtGiftAmt.Text.ToString
'HERE is where I would like to set the new price variable value somehow
End If
Next
Dim scart As New ShoppingCart
scart.AddCartItem(e.CommandArgument.ToString())
Response.Redirect("~/ShoppingCart.aspx")
End Sub
This sub is called by the following button when clicked:
[Code]....
Here is the sub from the ShoppongCart Class named AddCartItem:
[Code]....
Here is the problem that I am having: I have one specific item that allows user's to define their own price (for this item only). By putting this price in a session variable seems to be the easiest way to handle this (at least for me), but the session variable's value always "lags behind". By this I mean that the first time the items is entered, it uses the default value of cartItem.ItemPrice. The second time the same item is added (with the intention of a different price), this new item's cartItem.ItemPrice is set
as the first session("customPrice").
Because the user is selecting his/her own price for this item, I am not worried about lack of security involved with using query string to pass this price, but I can't get the string passed to the ShoppingCart class correctly (shows up null). Is there a way to append this customPrice to the current page's query string before the Response.Redirect takes place? If I understand this correctly, the Response portion "posts back" to the current page before the Redirect sends us on our merry way, right?

I want to dynamically populate a link with the URI of the current request, but set one specific query string parameter. All other querystring paramaters (if there are any) should be left untouched. Eg, imagine I want to build a link back to the current page, but with the querystring parameter "valueOfInterest" always set to be "wibble" (I'm doing this from the code-behind of an aspx page, .Net 3.5 in C# FWIW).Eg, a request for either of these two:
/somepage.aspx
/somepage.aspx?valueOfInterest=sausages
would become:
/somepage.aspx?valueOfInterest=wibble
And most importantly (perhaps) a request for:
/somepage.aspx?boring=something
/somepage.aspx?boring=something&valueOfInterest=sausages
would preserve the boring params to become:
/somepage.aspx?boring=something&valueOfInterest=wibble
Caveats: I'd like to avoid string manipulation if there's something more elegant in asp.net that is more robust. However if there isn't something more elegant, so be it. I've done (a little) homework: I found a blog post which suggested copying the request into a local HttpRequest object, but that still has a read-only collection for the querystring params. I've also had a look at using a URI object, but that doesn't seem to have a querystring

I am trying to add a string to an SQL statement based on whether an asp:checkbox is checked. Below is what I have, and it isnt working.
I know I could set comm inside the if statement, but I imagine there is a way just to add a variable string to the SQL.
Quote:
string IndCBSQL;
if (iIndividualsCheckBox.Checked)
{
IndCBSQL = "AND CMMaster.CONSTTYPE LIKE 'Individual'";

Looking for advice on passing variables from page to page without using QueryString. The web crawlers such as google get caught up on the querystrings found in a URL. I'm trying to get away from using it. Is there another suggested method for passing the variables? I've thought about using session variables, but this is just for simply passing the variable from page to page and they won't always be the same.
On another note, I can't do it using forms. I'm using a master page with a form embedded in the master page and also the content pages. Unless microsoft updated it so you can multiple forms on one page.
