But we still want member panel of our web site to work in all browsers, So we have decided not to use Ajax in some forms where browser independence is must.. N I am now confused with whether to use ASP controls or HTML controls or both? And which 1 is better considering efficiency and performance...
View 4 Repliesi know this question have been mentioned alot here but mine is a little more updated, now with ASP.net 4 and new Ajax client templating plus JASON services. so if i got all these new capabilities will i really need server side controls as long as i can bind on client side, create data-views on client side heck i can even use data-context and apply CRUD operations on clients side.
so i actually i wont need button_click server side event or what so ever... i am asking this because i own some commercial Controls like Telerik and Component art and they both offer client side operations ow but still i am confused as to my knowledge creating these controls will still have to go through Page Life cycle
We are observing some strange behaviour in our web server logs where where the Identity of the currently logged in user seems to be getting swapped with another user. I will describe our set up before explaining further.
We are running an asp.net web site (v3.5 of the framework) on 2 Windows 2008 web servers and use forms authentication.They are load balanced using a separate server running Apache 2.2 on Linux (Cent OS 5). The load balancing simply attaches a cookie to a user and directs them to a particular server for each subsequent request.
We notice on occasion patterns in the log like this (details obfuscated)

We are using forms authentication using the standard asp.net forms authentication framework (the standard login control and we implemented a custom membership provider).
The UserName is the Windows identity retrieved using "HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name" The UserId is the database Id set in the session. The sessionId is retrieved using "HttpContext.Current.Session.SessionID"
As you can see the same Windows identity is the same for 2 different users, under different IP addresses and with different session id's, hitting the site about the same time. We checked and the IP's were from totally different locations. The wrong windows identity seems to be getting recorded. UserId 2222 should have a different username recorded.
Since it happens very occasionally, the code is standard and has not changed substantially for some time we don't "think" it is a coding error. We presume either a problem with the load balancer or some problem in the web server. I have never heard of such problems in asp.net before.
The forms authentication entry in the web.config is

f I put the description meta tag in the cshtml for my page (below any code block), and I'm using a _SiteLayout page, the tag gets inserted at the bottom of the rendered page. How do I ensure that the meta description tag gets inserted into the <head> section. Is there a helper I'm missing
View 3 Replies'm learning about reporting in VS2008 (no we haven't moved to 2010 yet!), and I like the idea of rdlc files because it seems you can deploy the report as part of a web app rather than mess around deploying it to a report server. Is this correct?We develop tiered apps that use LINQ to SQL, and the .dbml and LINQ queries are in a separate project to the web application. Also, depending on whether we are developing an internet or intranet web app, it will either reference that project directly, or call its methods via a WCF service. However I can't seem to hook up my rdlc to either. From what I've read, this could be because we create "web application" projects and not "web site" projects. So my question is, is it possible to create an rdlc report within a "web application" project and have it use either a business object or a WCF service as its data source?If I try and create a data source in my web app project, it simply creates an XSD, and don't know what to do with this! If I go through the report wizard, all I can do is choose a database data source (i.e. from what's listed in the VS2008 server explorer) - there is no option to choose an "object" or "service" data source, like you can when the rdlc resides in a report project.

View 1 RepliesI have created nine custom HTML Editors in a web application using AjaxControlToolKit.
I am able to connect to SQL database and get the information displayed on all nine Editors. I am also able to update and insert data into database using the Editors. When i am trying to modify the text displayed in the some of the Editors, certian child controls in the Editors are not working.
For example if i try to add hyperlink to the text in the first Editor it works fine, i mean all controls infirst Editor works fine. But in the second Editor the hyperlink control doesn't work. The same thing happens forthird, fourth, fifth Editor, but the sixth, seventh, eigth and ninth Editor the Hyperlink works but destination url popup dialog box is displayed at the bottom of the page. this is happening only for hyperlink control in these Editors.

I am finding it difficult to accept that the whole Repeater approach has any benefits over just creating a loop in code, iterating through a recordset, and building a html table into a variable, then dumping it to the page. This repeater is spawning pages of code and objects, and surely this is all using up server resources.

As a test I have added a dropdownlist and a linkbutton but when these are rendered to the page they are rendered as plain HTML with none of the javascript or ids that are generated for server controls as a consequence the postback event is not fired when a dropdownlist item changes and the linkbutton is rendered as plain text.

Here's my scenario, I want to add a confirm button for each delete link in a MVC app, so when I try this:

I get this:Exception Details: System.InvalidOperationException: The TargetControlID of 'ConfirmButtonExtender1' is not valid. A control with ID '_delete_' could not be found.
Problem is that the asp:ConfirmButtonExtender control is parsed before render happens, therefore no "delete" HTML control is present -
We generally know HTML as client controls, but after including runat=server in them I guess they can work as server controls also, so can anyone tell me what is the benefit of ASP.net controls over HTML controls?

I have a server control which consists of a gridview with custom navigation&information capabilities and with javascript functions to highlight the selected grid items or highlight when mouse over event occurs.. (full tested outside asp:wizard)I'm trying to use that server control inside a template wizard step, when I drop such server control in the first step of the wizard everything goes ok.
When I insert even a blank step previous to the step which contains the server control, the javasript code of the server control is not rendered at all, the page doesn't fail during load but until I go with mouse over an item of the grid for instance.When I check the rendered HTML I can see no HTML, nor javascript events of this server control where rendered, neither the implementation nor calls to javascript, but even rarer what is there visible in the grid for ie, even the other components of the server control, are not in the "view source code" content. I seems it was sent to the client, even showed, but truncated in some phase..

How to wire up HTML server controls events?
I added a Input (Text) control in my web form and turned it into an HTML server control so its an instance of HtmlInputText class.
If I double click on the control It only adds a OnClick event handler method inside the script tags in the HTML doc of the web form but how to I get to handle its Serverchange event exactly? does VS.net 2008 has no ability to auto wire up the event to the control, do I have to manually wire up the event handler?
