Best Way To Deploy Localization Resource Files With Visual Studio?

Apr 9, 2010

For my *.resx files in App_GlobalResouces, what should the Build Action be? The defaults for creating a new resource file have Build Action as "Content", Copy to Output Directory as "Do not copy", and Custom Tool as "GlobalResourceProxyGenerator".

On certain servers I get an runtime error: "CS0101: The namespace 'Resources' already contains a definition..." that points to a "temporary asp.net files" folder. This makes me think that maybe I should be embedding these files so I don't have to worry about this duplicate registration. Or is my error the only real problem and keeping the physical files in the App_GlobalResouces section is fine?

Localization :: How To Set One Default Resource File From Many Different Resource Files

Apr 7, 2010

In our web application we need to keep various company's settings. For eg "DiamondProdRefIDCaption","Shippingpickup","ZipCodeCaption","DefaultCountry","AllowToEditInvoice", etcThese settings are different for various companies and are placed in web.config as key-value pair.Initially, we have tried do simplify this process by adding a company_settings table in the DB so as to allow us to add companies on the fly. However, this method makes it very difficult to add a new setting

<%$Resources:DiamondProdRefIDCaption%>

Localization :: Translation Of Resource Files?

Feb 16, 2010

I have a multilanguage application and I use resource files (.resx). I hired a person to make the translation. My question is, am I supposed to give him the resource files in order to make the translation and how he will open the resource files? Obviously, he doesn't have a copy of Visual Studio! Is there any tool that I can give him in order to work with the resource files?

I have a project at work where I need different versions of the same site.

I need to accomplish this by having different versions of the same resource files.

I would like to store the different versions of the same resource files in seperate projects in the same solution. Then choose which project of resource files to use when I publish or compile.

I've been searching the net everywhere and my deadline is coming up.

Localization - Put Resource Files (.resx) Within Subfolders Inside App_GlobalResources?

Mar 30, 2010

Is it possible to put resource files (.resx) within subfolders inside App_GlobalResources? For example:

/App_GlobalResources/someresources/myfile.resx
/App_GlobalResources/someresources/myfile.fr-fr.resx
/App_GlobalResources/othereresources/otherfile.resx
/App_GlobalResources/othereresources/otherfile.fr-fr.resx

Or, are all the .resx files placed directly inside App_GlobalResources? If it is possible to use subfolders, how do you programmatically access resources within subfolders?

Visual Studio :: How To Deploy A Subsite

Oct 19, 2010

I want to have a subste within my main site. I already configured IIS to add the folder and convert to an application in IIS. How in Visual Studio is the best way to deploy? What I have been doing is creating a separate web application and then doing a file system deploy to the sub-folder on the target server. This stinks a little because none of the paths work. I.e., /images/ on the subsite is really /mainsite/images/ and such. The biggest pain seems to be relative paths. Is there a way to add the subsite to the main web project and still treat as a site (permissions, debugging, etc.)?

Visual Studio :: ClickOnce Deployment - Application Won't Deploy?

Jul 14, 2010

A few years ago, I built a desktop application for a client in VS 2005 that was deployed using Click Once. Recently, the client asked me to make a simple modification to the site.

I no longer had VS 2005 (or the same machine for that matter) and was forced to upgrade the application to Visual Studio 2008.

Most of the application is fine in VS 2008 - however I am unable to Publish the application. During the project conversion process and whenever I try to publish the application, I receive a message like this:

"This project includes a password-encrypted key used for signing. Enter the password for the key file to import the key file into the local crypto-store database for use."

Unfortunately, I don't have any idea what the password would be for this application. What options do I have? Is there a way to get this working again without having to rebuild the application or have all of the users uninstall the application and reinstall it?

Visual Studio :: Adding A JS File As An Embedded Resource

Jul 4, 2010

My objective is to include a JavaScript file in my Custom Server Control, because it's a bit tedious writing all the JS in C#. I've done a lot of searching and most resources seem to say that I need to add the file as an embedded resource, and access that. I found a few pages describing how to do this:

[URL]

They all seem to say I need to, after adding the JS file, change the build action to 'embedded resource' through its properties. However, the only properties I can actually see on the file are 'File Name' and 'File Path'. Right clicking the file in the solution explorer doesn't allow me access to properties, and right clicking (as one of those links suggests) anywhere else doesn't expose it either. I tried looking through VS Options but couldn't find anything, although I get the impression that I have something configured wrong that's not allowing me to see as many properties as I should be able to.

Asp.net - Visual Studio 2010 Doesn't Deploy App_Theme Folder

Jan 20, 2011

I have a simple web app project in Visual Studio 2010 (converted from 2008 project). For some reason when I publish the app, Visual Studio doesn't copy the App_Theme -folder to the publish destination folder. This will cause the app to fail when deployed to production environment.

App_Theme is considered as "system" folder by VS (shown as grey), which means that I can't manually set it's publish properties.

how to get VS to copy App_Theme -folder when deploying?

Visual Studio :: Localization, IDE And Previews?

What I'm wondering about is if it's at all possible to get preview when using localization. I spent a long time yesterday removing all the hard coded text and replacing them with references, and now most of my controls are just blank until I start the application.

Visual Studio :: Reference Resource Item / Sending Error?

Jun 7, 2010

I'm trying to reference a color value, which is stored in a file called Rsource.resx in the App_GlobalResources directory.

In vs 2008, I used to be able to use a line like this:

[Code]....

Now, in VS 2010, that no longer works.

I found a VS 2010 example that suggests I could try
[Code]....

or

<asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server"
Text="test", BackColor="Resources.Webresources.sunlight",Visible="false"></asp:Label>

These examples both generate an error that the server tag is not well formed. I'm fairly new to this, so I think my error will be obvious to someone...

What would be the correct way to reference the color value in this case?

Visual Studio :: Access Value From Resource File In App_GlobalResources Directory?

Jan 27, 2010

I've added a key/value pair to an .resx file named SharedResources in my App_GobalResources directory. All the examples I've read on line have me trying to access the value as:

[Code]...

However, the intellisense is telling me that (Resources is not a member of '<Default>')

I've also tried this syntax, without the global

Dim MsgTemplate As String = Resources.SharedResources.EmailTemplate

I then get a message that (SharedResouces is not a member of Resources)

The intellisens is showing the following members for Resources

ResourceManger

ResourceReader

ResourceWriter

It should be compiling a global collection based upon the files in my App_GlobalResources directory from what I'm reading. However,I can't find anything to match what everythink on line says I should have available.
